Hawks Vs Gophers

"They'd need to win all perceived "tossup" matches, and that hardly ever happens."

Until it does.
I think Minny will win this one, here's how it goes: On the verge of losing their 10th match of the meet, as Stoll is going for the pin, little known brother Skeeter Thorn, the Goofers Seeker, flying quickly through the rafters at CHA, reaches out and grabs the golden snitch, ending the meet and sealing the victory for Minnesota, all without scoring a single match victory!!!

I've thought the tournament scoring is off for a while now. If the scoring is to reward a true wrestling TEAM to win the tournament, the scoring for the high podium spots is overvalued. And the bonus points seem to be overvalued by a little bit.

Having 4 champs with a lot of bonus can win it all, even if your six other wrestlers haven't won a match all year. That is a championship TEAM? That is kind of screwed up if you ask me.

The round of 12 guys are great wrestlers, but aren't awarded that many more points than the NQ.

The 5-8 guys are fantastic wrestlers, but only get a fraction of the 1st and 2nd place points.

Everybody knows that the scoring system is screwed up and is heavily weighted for the superstuds, so it is still fair. PSU and tOSU, and recently ASU, are trying to take advantage of the inequity. Iowa, not so much.

what did the NCAA D1 scoring used to be (before they changed it in like the mid 80's or whenever that was)? Was is more evenly weighted to all the top 8 place finishers then, or was it even more weighted to benefit the 1st place finishers then?

If I remember correctly it was weighted heavier for champions than it is now.

Also, to address an earlier post. I said if Minny beats Iowa in a dual that should convince that a dual format is no way to determine a national championship team. The reason is, because Minny is no where close to Iowa as far as caliber of team, yet because of how they match up, they could win. Very unlikely in my opinion, but still possible.
I realize there is no way to determine a true championship team in this sport, since it is 10 individuals and their points towards the team victory are arbitrary. Personally, I like the NCAA tournament as the way to crown the champion and as png as the majority of fans feel the same way, lets not get too intellectual about it and just enjoy it.

there was time when there were fewer AA's awarded with points.

All sports are arbitrary rules.

But consider baseball. There is exactly one way that a run is scored -- by getting a guy to cross the plate. You don't get two

I like the NCAA tournament, mainly because anybody from anywhere can make their way to the big stage regardless of their team.

But I think head-to-head team events are far more exciting, and I believe part of the problem with wrestling is the lack of a true team tournament, and the crowd excitement that goes along with that. A literal 8-ring circus, where only ten matches are wrestled in front of an entire crowd, does not translate into an event that will generate wider enthusiasm (or provide incentive for television coverage). It's like having the entire NCAA basketball season, then capping it with March Madness we cap it with a bunch of half-court one-on-one playground matches, with a complex scoring system to figure out which team did best.

Even for die-hard wrestling fans, I can't imagine anybody prefers watching a tournament compared to watching a dual meet. I know I'm in the minority, but I've always felt if the dual meet were the heart and soul of wrestling it would be more popular. Of course, almost all of my ideas for making the sport more popular are hated by other wrestling fans...

A Dual Meet Championship is badly needed. Getting the details worked out is the never-ending problem.

Already exists. It is called National Duals. It was held in Minny a few years back with maybe 2000 in attendance.

And now this year they have changed it to the "dual championship series". They must think if they put the word championship in there more ppl will flock.

. If Stoll has those images, I wouldn't want to be Kroells Friday night!
Without looking, I would guess Kroells is at least two years older? Pinning a kid two years younger than you might not be as impressive as first thought.

Gilman Pin on Polakowski. This will worse then the beat down he gave Lizak last year.
Clark Major Dec on Brancale
Thorn with Dec on Grothus. Still haven't seen enough from Brody this year to give him the win, but wouldn't be surprised if he did.
BS with the Dec on Short. Short always wrestles BS well but don't be surprised if BS has opened the gap from last year and pulls the Major.
Cooper Dec on Kingsley. This will be one of the better matches of the night and I think Coopers speed will be the difference.
Rhoads Dec on Krone. This will also be a good match and Rhoads will finally show confidence against a non-ranked opponent.
Meyer Dec on Wanzek. Hope Meyer gets it going but I expect another boring match.
Brooks with Tech Fall over Pfarr. Brooks takes his anger out on a lesser opponent after being pinned by Dudley.
Burak with Dec over Pfarr. Should be a well fought match won by a single takedown. Burak has looked great this year, hopefully he keeps it up against his first real test of the year. Wouldn't be surprised if Pfarr wins this match so Burak better be ready.
Stoll Dec Kroells. Real good test for Stoll. This is the kind of guy he needs to beat to make the stand this year. I could also see this match going the other way.

So If my homer picks are right then Iowa wins all 10. 41,57,65,97,285 are not locks for either team. If we can win 41 and 285 it will show that we may not be able to beat PSU come March but there gonna come out of there with a black eye. GO HAWKS!!!

Two weeks in a row you've been on here predicting gloom and doom. Are you going to jump on another team's bandwagon when Minne doesn't get it done?

Indiana-Jammenz once had a steak in in the same restaurant as Bobby Knight=Indiana is going to beat Iowa in wrestling

Montana St-Jammenz once went on an expedition to catch and capture Bigfoot in the mountains of Montana=Montana St is going to beat Iowa in wrestling
One thing you can certain of Chief. I won't be jumping on the Iowa bandwagon as some of these fly-by-nighters have.

According to the guillotine message boards Brandon Krone 165 is out due to grades. Looking at their roster all of their 165#ers are RS FR. Not sure who they send out.

Minnesota has as much chance of beating Iowa as Jamm finding bigfoot.

Careful there.......Jam might BE Bigfoot.
I know a couple guys that were on jammenz's high school team. They've seen him in the shower and confirmed he does not have big feet... or hands.

In an Audiocast Kroells said he has added incentive for tonights match. A couple years ago some message board chatter got back to him that he would just be a one year place filler for the Gophers until Stoll showed up.
