I disagree with your impressions on Bohannon. I agree Williams played well, and better than JoBo, but I also thought that Jordan displayed some solid court vision and made several nice passes (a couple nice transition passes, and a pass to Pemsl on the pick and roll stand out) and an aggressive willingness to shoot that I would liken to Gatens, Marble, and Jok. I'd prefer this to (for example) Uthoff's hesitance to shoot. It's true that a couple shots weren't very good, and extremely rushed/early in the shot clock, but it seems like it would be harder to teach a player to be aggressive than to be less aggressive. So I liked that.
Moss didn't have the ball much, but I thought he played well defensively while he was in. Dailey did decently, had a nice shot and an air ball.
Like many expected, I don't think this team will struggle to put up points, but defense will likely be inconsistent at best as players figure out how to rotate and where they need to be.
Absolutely true. And don't get me wrong, I love having the versatility that CW brings at the point guard position. He can rebound, block shots, disrupt passing lanes, score at the rim, and even pass the ball as evidenced by his 5 assists tonight. Williams is more athletic, better at the rim, and better defender, but it seems like Bohannon has the tighter handles and better shooting. He's also been in the system a year less, so it's good to see that he's as caught up as he is.I may have been a bit too harsh on JB in my assessment, they're just very different in their style and approach to the game, I just prefer CW's more. I was impressed with CW and his ability to push and attack. I think if he can be effective in that area it complements Jok in getting perimeter looks on a kick out pass or dumping to TC for the strong finish in the post or lane. Regardless of my preferences, we're going to need JB this season and I think he's a fine player personally, just not the athlete that CW is.
It might 'seem' like JB has tighter handles, but CW not only had 5 assists but ZERO turnovers.Absolutely true. I think that both Christian and Jordan complement each other quite well and hope we see more instances where they are both on the court at the same time. Think how lethal a Bohannon, Williams, Jok, Baer, and Cook lineup could be (obviously not a starting lineup, but one we could see in games quite a bit, IMO)
Like I said Williams played the better game. Dribbling the ball loosely isn't the only thing that causes turnovers though. I meant more in regards to getting a shot and an open look, Jordan will be better at getting separation, where Williams will more likely use his quickness and size to get to the hoopIt might 'seem' like JB has tighter handles, but CW not only had 5 assists but ZERO turnovers.

I wasn't speaking last year specifically. I was just saying that Uthoff is naturally less aggressive than Jok/Marble/Gatens, and I feel like it was probably more difficult for Fran to coach him up to the way he was last year than for him to coach down those other guys. Not bagging on JU at all.Perhaps Uthoff deferred and/or was hesitant his first 2 years at Iowa, but not last year. He led Iowa in FGA and free throw attempts by a wide margin, he took nearly 15 shots per game. And that includes games where he didn't get many in non-con blowouts.
There's aggressiveness, and then there's not smart shots. Bohannon took some ill-advised shots last night. The ones early in the shot clock where he's shooting a contested jumper, those are not good shots. He can get those any time he wishes. It's why he shot 1 for 5 from 3-point range. When you shoot guarded shots, your percentage tends to be low. Last night was the perfect time to work through those things. He just needs to relax and take the shots that are there. There will be enough times where he's forced to make something happen against the shot clock that he's going to get shots up.
