Iowa school voucher scam update: Private schools raising tuition up to 40%. Special ed services to public schools will have a 30 million dollar cut

LOL it’s the same as the COVID scam when she had that out of state company do the vaccine data or whatever and they scammed us.

If Kimmy is behind it, we’re getting grifted by one of her friends.
Still waiting for Reynold's liver to default.

Just read today that the average household income for the families qualifying for vouchers is about $128,500. The average household income in Iowa is about $85k and the median is about $65.4k.

I am shocked…

(Not really shocked, since it is basically what I predicted would happen)

Yeah, not good.

It's unfortunate that this bill was passed. But I understand the why.

We’ve been right about all of this. So very predictable.

$128,000 isn’t out of line considering the applicants are almost certainly from larger cities in Iowa.
While the average and median income in Iowa is lowered greatly by small towns and rural areas across the state.

There isn't an excuse for this joke legislation that will most certainly decimate public schools. Starting with outsourcing of over 3 million to a NY firm to "oversee" this, our tax funds.

I don't know how she sleeps at night. I spent 4 years on a school board and we worked damn hard to make the budget as tight as we could with the money given from the state. I think if I was on one right now, I'd just filibuster everything until the Governor showed up.

People should remember that private school families weren’t asking for this law.
Democrats didn’t support it. Republicans didn’t support it (at first).
Reynolds primaried her own party to push the law through on her 2nd try.
So, if you don’t like it, you’ve got one person to blame.

You understand. An unfortunate reality? That’s how you justify this to yourself?

I don’t know if there is a education system in the nation that has fallen as far and as fast as Iowa’s.

You just sitting there….its unfortunate, but I get it.
Because he’s a lock step idiot who bends over for his party.

No...every Republican legislator who voted to support Dim Kim's voucher share the blame for what will end up being a catastrophic financial mistake.

Spin it hard pinehawk....spin it however you must!
The Iowa GOP believes in “welfare for the wealthy”..... they do it all the time, in a million different ways....and they never include any type of “means resting”....Imagine how you would be squealing I’d Chet Culver and Dems would have passed the piece of shit legislation?

The teachers unions have already decimated public schools if performance matters.
More families than expected looking for better education for kids sending the snowflakes off the edge in this thread is hilarious.

Where are these teacher’s unions, dog? They don’t even exist in Iowa. If you wanna blame piss poor parenting, you might have an argument....but to blame non-existent teacher’s unions for Iowa’s “public school dilemma” is 100% bullshit. Maybe look to how the Iowa Legislature has traditionally underfunded it’s public schools....

Come on Joel.

Teachers unions still donate to Iowa politicians. They still rally in unison...ie...family and friends showing up at sparsely attended school board elections.

You're just mad about the collective bargaining restrictions.

29,000 applications when they only expected a max of 14,000 is just a reflection of how absolutely shitty the public schools are in Iowa.
Are these 29,000 applications from families with kids currently in public school? Or 29,000 from kids already in private school?
Or a mix of both?

Would need to see the detailed figures before the total number could be used to further your assertion.

“Teachers and friends” are hardly the only folks attending these meetings and rallies….how many teacher/union members are turning up supporting banning books in the school libraries? And yes, unions got badly treated by tge Legislature when their bargaining rights were curtailed.
The answer is simple Nirthern… people need to VOTE in their school elections. Are the union’s preventing that from happening?

Some of the books found in public school libraries are part of the problem Joel. We should be able to agree that the graphic content is inappropriate. So much so that media outlets wouldn't show it and school boards wouldn't allow some of the language to be read aloud in public meetings.

Yet here we are...with you and others wondering why people are fleeing the schools.

Wrong again.
Much of the problem was created by Bush2's "NoChildLeftBehind" mandate.
