Iowa State Guards

Only Garza was good against Oregon. Weiskamp was off with 7 of 17 shooting. The rest of the team, including Keegan, was pitiful.
That’s 41% from the field, while rebounding well and leading the team in assists while the guards were missing in action. So yea, Joe did play well.
Your boy played half the game went 0 for 4 from the field, no points, 1 rebound, 3 assists, and 1 turnover.

Ho hum he played. Not terrible and not very good either. I never said Jordan played every game that he ever played excellent. He was terrible in that game. The body of work for Jabo's career defined him as a really good Hawkeye player. Not the best and not the very best point guard either. Just a great Hawkeye. Geeeezzzzzzzz, I hope I didn't go over you head again.

The body of work in games that mattered tell a different story but he was a good Hawkeye.

Yep, I've started to believe that Fran would rather have slow guys who can shoot over athletic players that aren't very good shots.

Thinking back, seems like every quick PG Fran has ever recruited gradually sees their playing time shrink, disappear... And then they transfer. Trey Dickerson, Ulis.. I'm sure that I'm forgetting some others. Is Bowen just the next example?
You're just now starting to believe this?

Wrong again. The covid year (21) was shorted only a few games but his injury year (20) he only played 10 games. Trying to claimed that he played 6 seasons is not being honest here. He really played 5 years and about another 4 games more. Regardless, accumulating those very impressive stats along with the clutch shots to win so many games certainly makes him a great player. I would want another "Jabo" any day back at Iowa.
The year that he stopped playing because of a planned surgery was the same year they canceled the tournament.

His 5th year was 21 and 6th was 22. Both full years.

He should have just been done after 20.

You can ramble on all you want. I can remember JoBo winning MANY games with a closing seconds shot. That is simply a fact regardless of your piss poor memory. Stats speak for themselves with only a handful of additional games (injury after something like 12 games and shortened covid season)

1,000 Points and 400 Assists (7 total)

2. B.J. Armstrong (1986-89)1,705517

4. Dean Oliver (1998-2001)1,561561
5. Andre Woolridge (1995-97)1,525575
6. Jeff Horner (2003-06)1,502612

7. Mike Gesell (2013-16)

No, stats don’t always speak for themselves without proper context.

Iowa doesnt recruit convicts like Iowa State does.
Seriously, just STFU.

Show me a team depending on majority white guards, I’ll show you a team not making the NCAA tournament.
Tell that to @Grumpy Old Hawk. He thinks white guards would be superior if the game was just officiated properly. Well, maybe if you clone Pete Maravich, but Grumpy is talking about snatching Bob Cousy, throwing him into Doc Brown’s DeLorean, and putting him on a 2024 NBA roster. I mean, it would be epic.

And what would be the disqualifying context of these stats? Those are some seriously big numbers regardless.

1. Jordan Bohannon (2017-22)2,033704
Games played. 😊 Why don’t you add one more column and throw that stat in?!?
Bohannon 179
Mike Gessell 134
BJ Armstrong 130
Dean Oliver 126
Jeff Horner 123
Ronnie Lester 99
Andre Woolrdidge 97

Damn. It’s even worse than I thought!

Well, let me qualify this statement by saying I am not a Jordan Bohannon hater. When healthy, he can shoot lights out.

With that said, he did have 6 years to amass all those points and 6 years to distribute to some great scoring teams. Yes, it obviously matters.

Nothing personal against Bohannon, bur he’s nowhere near the caliber of point guard as Ronnie Lester, BJ, Woolridge, and Oliver. Not close.

First, what ISU is doing this year has nothing to do with "getting recruits". TJ is getting the absolute most out of the guys he brought in. Jones, Jones, King, Lipsey, Gilbert, and Ward weren't high level recruits. Milan is the only top 100 guy I can think of that really plays. They are playing tenacious defense every single night, it's a culture thing up there, as much as it's a culture thing down here. I laughed my ass off when they pulled in Rob Jones, but that dude plays his ass off and has been the center of a great defense the last three years up there. It also doesn't hurt that Lipsey came out of their own backyard as a huge ISU fan growing up, and has turned into a first team PG.

I agree. Bohannon did the best he could. Fran just put him in a bad spot because he couldn’t recruit point guards (or he would lose our best guard to Kentucky) because he insisted on starting Connor with Jordan. I don’t know any guard recruit that would want to compete in that scenario for minutes. Probably still hurting this current team.

ESPN had a graphic showing Iowa State guards over the years. How can they have so many studs and Iowa continues to strike out in that area??? Lipsey is a stud.
Lipsey is from Ames. Also, I believe he had some injuries in high school (possibly his junior year) that scared some of the big boys away from recruiting him, so he fell into Moo U’s lap.

I have yet to meet anyone who could explain Fran’s recruiting or lineups and rotations.

No one has yet to convince me his lineups in 2020-2021 weren’t structured to keep his son and his golden boy (JBo) in the starting lineup. Meanwhile, Keagan maintained a limited role despite flashes of brilliance and despite defense, athleticism, and rebounding being a major need. CMac at the 4? Smmfh.

Madison Square Garden isn’t a bad consulation prize. See ya during football season? Not, you’ll crawl back into your hole by then. 😜
I wouldn’t go booking any tickets to New York City if you think Iowa is going on a deep run in the NIT.

His lineup decisions that season have been the downfall of this program. I think a lot of people could see he was putting certain interests over the best interests of the Iowa basketball program. And it’s continued all the way to today.

Iowa fans would eat their arm to not have mediocre white dudes year after year. Transfer or not our program stinks.

To be fair to the OP, this is the exact argument Iowa fans had at the start of "free agency" in the NCAA. We all said we admired our guys stuck around. Iowa St. is getting the last laugh.

Enforce the rules of basketball you would . Never see palming, carrying or traveling called anymore though. Game is dribble pause , drive take 3 steps , jump , pass out to a guy who shuffles his pivot foot into perfect shooting form.
