Iowa vs UNI in 2018. Time to back out of this contract.

I always hear people say that this game is good for the state. Forget that.

Iowa should do what Missouri did to us in the mid 2000s and pay the buyout and cancel the games. Pinkel admitted it was because he was trying to build a program and didn't want to play Iowa.

Our reason would be different. It's a lose lose game with zero upside.

It's time to pay the buyout and find a replacement if possible. Maybe foot the bill for a similar team like Iowa to pay a buyout on their end.

It's a stupid series that does nothing for Iowa.
 
UNI is hot garbage, especially early in the year, they are 1-2. Last year 1-4. They play good at the end.

No lets do as our Big Ten commish asked and stop the FCS bs! While Delany is out negotiating contracts for $35M per school, Barta and Gene Taylor are Nickle and diming Iowa's fan base

Agreed, we shouldn't be playing FCS teams at all. Pay them double if needed to get out of this game and try to play a real D-1 team.
 
Nah, keep it. It's 5 years or so between KF's up years anyway. 2020 is the target year for improved scheduling.
 
I agree with the OP. Cancel the contract. Nothing to be gained. So much to lose. Hell, it's embarrassing just having the game on the schedule. Anything less than a butt-whooping will be viewed as a loss.

If we're going to schedule non-FBS local teams, we might as well be playing Coe.
 
I see no reason to back out on a commitment we made especially to UNI. It's the last one. Losing to NDSU is a us problem not a who we played problem.

The kids came out flat, the game plan was pathetic and we played poor, unispured football. With our talent level that's a recipe for an upset loss.

If we are afraid to play someone it only illustrates that we are not that good to begin with.

If the fans and others find it necessary to worry about a potential loss... then that, in itself, is a problem.

The team that just lost to NDSU will take this abysmal performance to their graves. That embarrassment will stay with them forever. There's a lot more important stuff in life to worry about for the fans then the outcome of one football game.

The conference season is what matters at this point. The team can choose to improve their effort and execution and win the West. Achieve that goal and a loss to the Bison will hurt less.
 
What will people have to bitch about when we no longer play these teams....Oh yeah, the weather, KF, BF, GD, Taxes, Obama(even though he will no longer be President), George Bush (at least Democrats will still blame him), BTN playing Mich & OSU all the time, etc. Carry on.

I'm not Northern, but that's not why you cancel the game (if you do cancel the game).

You cancel the game because it doesn't do anything for your program. There is absolutely nothing positive that can come from playing UNI. At least with ISU, you are playing another Power 5 team and there is a rivalry there.

I don't like scheduling FCS teams, but if you do why do we choose to schedule the best ones (NDSU) or really good local ones with a chip on their shoulder (UNI)? If we are going to play lower division teams, then let's schedule the really crappy ones like Missouri State.

If Tyler would read the OP, he'd realize that my advocating of this isn't because we are pulling a Gary Pinkel and cutting and running, but rather because the game has no upside. PERIOD!

But Tyler is just being obtuse right now.

With reasoning like that Iowa should cancel the game with Iowa State (I mean in basketball). For you all that want this on the basketball board I'll put it there also for the, "if you can't beat them cancel the game" crowd.
 
So based on this discussion, I sense that most people feel it's better for Barta to be loyal to UNI then his Big Ten Commish. If the Big Ten wanted to reform, Iowa would certainly be on the outside looking in based on their actions. When Gary Barta thinks of raising the bar, he thinks of a tavern in Kalona! Mark Hollis, Alvarez, and others make he and Gene look like Barney Fife and Gomer.
