JFC, does anyone work anymore?!

Wife's 95 year old grandma misplaced her drivers license and went get a new one. They made her do a driving test and she failed it. Badly. She had grievances that "oh so I parked a little outside the line, or i couldn't drive over the line, or this or that, but it was clear she couldn't see the lines.

Blamed the DOT, the test administrator, and pretty much everyone else that she couldn't get her license back. She would have to take a driving course to get it back now. Since she's 95 she's pretty much given up on that.
Brother and I went to the DOT and asked them to make my mother take the driving test as she was getting to where she did not drive well IMYO. Would have been a disastrous battle he and I taken it away from her.

All jokes a salad, its for the best she's not driving anymore. Its frustrating for her and those that have to chauffeur her, but honestly it is likely saving her and other people from something disastrous.

When I was a kid my grandparents used to always talk about how great it was that my great grandma was still driving into her 90's. I think she stopped around 95 years old too. But I'll never forget the ONE time she actually took me somewhere, she never got over 10-15 mph. Thank god it was in a small town, but still.

Now looking back at it, she should not have been allowed to drive for years if that's how she was doing it. It was ****ing mind blowing.
My grandfather couldn't see very well either. He would pull into his garage and stop when he "nudged" the front wall of the garage. Over time, that wall was pushed out over a foot from all of his nudges.

I never witnessed it but I was told he would also come to a stop sign and then just count to 10 and go. Thank God we lived out in the country of one of the least populated counties in the state.🫣

The garage thing reminded me of a story. About 12ish years ago or so I had a couple buddies that lived together. One of them was an alcoholic (fortunately has been sober for multiple years now) that would drive drunk all too often. One night he pulled into the garage, went too far and hit a firepit, and pushed it almost completely through the back of the garage. He was so drunk he didn't even notice until he came out the next day. Then he yelled at his roommate for putting the firepit there.

The firepit had been there, not used or moved, for multiple years. Yet, he swore that someone put it there, and it wasn't his fault that he destroyed the back of the garage/csb

When we were building the CF library, I saw an old lady driving the wrong way on a one way street behind the library. She was completely oblivious to everything going on around her.
When I was in my early-mid 20's I was at a stop light in CR at the Collins Rd/1st Avenue intersection. I was heading towards Lindale Mall. There was a ton of construction going on near the Granite City side of the intersection. They had an entire lane coned off because the had not yet poured concrete there so that one lane was about 12-16 inches down from the rest of the road with a gravel base. It was VERY clearly marked which lane was open and which was closed. This happened right next to me as I was waiting for the light. This old lady in a minivan was making a turn, and drove over the cones and took her entire van off the 12-16 inch drop off. She then proceeded to drive until she couldn't anymore. Then the light turned, and I drove off. I'm sure it was fun getting that van out of there/csb

People may think I'm done for it, but that is exactly why I still look both ways when crossing a one-way. I see people driving the wrong way too often.

His system worked for him.😉 There was no ceiling in the garage, and I doubt he even knew what a tennis ball was. We're talking the late 50's before tennis became all that popular. Probably should have hung a baseball if the roof truss spacing had worked out. We're talking about an old detached country garage.

It was great that she was still driving because that meant they didn't have to take her everywhere.
