JoBo's Intentional Missed FT after Tying Chris Street's School Record Getting National Praise

Before that moment came, I was wondering If he might miss it on purpose, and I'll be damned if he didn't (I was actually wondering if he might just slam it off the backboard or something similar). That's one hell of a gesture on his part.

I assumed he and Fran might have had a conversation, and I was hoping Fran wouldn't get involved. Clearly not his decision to make, but he talked about thinking about telling him to miss it. I find that odd to be honest.

I had also wondered if he was alive when Chris Street died, which of course he wasn't as it turned out, but hard to be an Iowa Basketball player or fan and not know the story, or Iowan period I guess.

Anyway, Jordan has time to make another run at it, and if Karma comes into play, he'll do it. That would be something as well. The kid can shoot, that's for certain. Well done young man.

It didn't matter what the score was; tied, ahead, or behind, JoBo was going to miss #35.

I love the gesture. I grew up in Ankeny with Street as a major rival, but it took like 8 seconds of watching him at Iowa for him to become my favorite player.

All of that said, had Bohannon missed a FT on purpose that ultimately cost Iowa a game, it would have been an insult to Street's legacy. This, though, was perfect.

I mussed ha
“It’s been on mind for a while. I talked with my brother (Zach) and we both agreed that it wasn’t my record to have.”

Jordan Bohannon on missing the free-throw.

Perhaps I' m missing something, but what's the point of tying the record and then purpoesfully not breaking it?

I understand it was out of tribute and gesture, but despite what he says, technically it is his record now, alongside Street's.

Totally classy move by Jordan and I was at the game and predicted he would miss when he got to 34. I thought he looked pretty nervous on 33 and 34 to be honest. However, if the record is meant to be Chris', why don't you miss on 33? Also, did Fran know? Finally , what would have happened if we are tied or down one with 3 seconds to go?

Just really glad it played out like it did. With two years left and as good a free throw shooter as he is, what if he gets there again?

Even with those what ifs, still a very classy move. Thanks Jordan

I was there as well and missing on purpose was the farthest thing from my mind at the time. In fact, I was caught off guard, looking back I’m not too terribly proud of my reaction. I was more disappointed for him than anything. Where we were sitting, you could see it was short the moment it left his hand.

Definitely an odd time of the game though. Front end of a one and one with NW making a little bit of a run.

I’ll be more disappointed if it hurts Bohannon’s chances of breaking SA all time B1G ft% record.

The point is Chris Street's name IS still on the record, it was NOT removed from the top of the list.

That is the distinction.

As for what happens if the game was really on the line? My guess is he makes it. That said, the outcome of this particular game was probably one of the most inconsequential things in the History of Iowa Basketball.

I kind of feel that although it was meant to be a sign of respect, it was disrespectful in a way. To intentionally miss is totally against the way Street played and I imagine how he would have wanted it.

Please. Disrespectful. My how we've fallen in love with that word and the need to constantly invoke being "disrespected".

Yes, Chris would have said "Go for it, break the record. You deserve it"...and wanted JBo to do it. That's who he was.

But to say JBo was disrespecting him by not... is quite a reach.

I know the Bohannon family, having either played against Jason & covered the other boys in the media. That was all class by @JordanBo_3 by missing FT to keep Chris Street's name in the record books. Few things I love more in life than the state of Iowa.

i really disliked doyle as a player. not because he was dirty, but more because i just get annoyed when i see dudes that shouldn't be playing D-1 sports (probably mostly out of jealousy, on my part). that being said, i've really liked doyle as a commentator. he knows the game and has fun with the work. but i have to ask, what is that last line in his tweet about? i'm not aware of any connection he might have to iowa.

You think super-competitor Street would approve of what Jordan did?
No, I'm sure he would not.

Was it a classy thing for Jordan to do? Sure it was. Was it disrespectful? No, not particularly.

However, it did dishonor Chris, in a way. Chris stood for going all out and giving 100%. If he were alive today, I bet he would have been rooting for Jordan to break his record. And had Jordan missed on purpose, he would have been disappointed.

A record really isn't a record if people intentionally refuse to break it when they have a chance.
