JoBo's Intentional Missed FT after Tying Chris Street's School Record Getting National Praise

No, I'm sure he would not.

Was it a classy thing for Jordan to do? Sure it was. Was it disrespectful? No, not particularly.

However, it did dishonor Chris, in a way. Chris stood for going all out and giving 100%. If he were alive today, I bet he would have been rooting for Jordan to break his record. And had Jordan missed on purpose, he would have been disappointed.

A record really isn't a record if people intentionally refuse to break it when they have a chance.

Could not disagree with you more than saying this in no way dishonored Chris Street's memory. Like Chris, Jordon goes out each day and gives his 100%. It's easy to speak for Chris when he is not with us and assume any us should even try to do so. You're talking about a record of consecutive free throws. In the big picture Jordon honored a great young man's memory who left us too soon. Jordon's decision put that memory ahead of something less significant, and in that decision created his own memory that will stand the time much longer.

Thanks Jordon, for your classy move!

We’ll have to agree to disagree.

I’m not trying to speak for Chris...obviously no one can. But having watched him as a player, and seeing the effort he always gave, I feel pretty confident he would rather have his record broken than for someone to have the chance to break it, but instead miss on purpose.

But yesterday it was about what Jordan thought, not CMS. He will forever have his name next to Street's and that is what he wanted. If anyone else is ever in the same position I got a 100.00 that says they will miss it too!

By the way on NBC Nightly News tonight, after one depressing story ( Syrian children dying, shooting in Florida, lying politicians, flooding and bad weather ) after another, I told the wife " it's going to take two feel good dog stories after this crappy news cycle " to break the depressing mood, then here comes J. Bo's/CMS story. Total redemption for NBC, even Lester Holt was impressed.

Should Maris...and McGwire...and Bonds...have stopped at 60 home runs? A record isn’t really a record if people intentionally refuse to break it when they have a chance.

I get it.....I really do. Bohannon did not want to break Street’s record. That’s fine. It’s a nice gesture. Very classy and thoughtful. Kudos to him. If that is what he wanted to do, that is his choice and more power to him.

It will be interesting to see if Bohannon, or any other Iowa player, has another chance at the record in a close game, and what he does. I would be willing to take you up on that $100 bet.

If Maris was killed 3/4 through the season and since Bonds and McGwire were juicing, then I’d say yes.

But then again, not really an apples to apples comparison.

I mussed ha

Perhaps I' m missing something, but what's the point of tying the record and then purpoesfully not breaking it?

I understand it was out of tribute and gesture, but despite what he says, technically it is his record now, alongside Street's.
Other than missing a brain, you're good.

Give me a break. The classy move by Jordan in absolutely no way reflects on the competitiveness or the integrity of Chris Street. Not one person's opinion about Chris Street has changed.

For those few criticizing JoBo missing that FT attempt, consider this:

Chris Street made 34 FT's in a row and never got a chance at attempt #35.

Jordan made 34 FT's in a row and I have no problem with what he did with attempt #35. And based on all of the national praise he is getting, I think he made the right decision.

It was a selfless act in a world full of selfishness. Jordan didn't care if he was #1 on the list. It was an act of kindness, an act of respect, and it showed his understanding of what Chris means to Iowa basketball fans. Good for Jordan.
