Keegan Cryptic Message?

During the post game press conference, while answering a question from the media, Keegan responded:

"I think for us, it's really just on next year, go through the off-season again, get better. We put a stamp on this program, uh, I feel like positively, um so, go in the off season and work"

Read into that what you want, but I think he just possibly announced his return to the team next season!
I doubt the Murrays will rely in any way on ESPN or other media sources to form their opinion. They'll be talking directly to NBA scouts for feedback IMO. And if those scouts say Murray is a late 1st-round pick at this point and can improve upon that with another year of seasoning - what do they do then?

I have no idea what's going to happen - I do expect him to go pro - but I don't believe Keegan knows for sure at this point until he gets specific professional feedback.

Keegan at least doesn't go to message boards and try to be a rallying point like his elder. Lame. Seriously.
Are you saying Kenyon coming on the boards to engage with fans is "lame"? Your mental age appears to be stuck at 13. I appreciate him taking time to actually talk with people on this board. I think your lame post speaks way more about you then him.

Yes that is correct haha. And no shit it is Keegan’s***** choice but like I’m saying Frans advice (or any D1 coach) would be very impactful on any of these young man’s voices. Example 1, JoBo coming back lol. Idk why you keep inferring that I am thinking Fran makes the choice for Keegan, it’s obviously Keegan’s and his families.
Actually, it’s only Keegan’s decision. His family could want him to stay/go, but he could do the other.

start the go fund me...I'll do a few hundred bucks....too bad I blew my NCAA picks betting on Iowa to final-4, so I won't have any winnings there for NIL.

Keegan...incredible player...he did his best...Keegan and Kris were the heart of the team.

To all those that said CMAC was a stud even if he didn't make shots....my answer.....no...you gotta makes shots or you get beat by a Richmond.
Well there "Logic" your last sentence really lacks that. I think Cmac took what one or two shots. It was all those shot makers that couldn't throw it in the ocean yesterday. Other then Patrick, (the only guy who was pretty aggressive on offense, name one other guy who had a good game?

Yeah, can you see Fran, Kenyon, and Keegan in Fran's office having a conversation about the do's and don'ts of staying to play an extra year with Kris.
Fran: I just want you to know that if you come back for another year, you'll play very little because I promised Sandford your starting spot already. Does that help you make up your mind? Now both of you get out of my office and take Kris with you. If that happens, yes, Fran should be canned!

Believe me, if Keegan decides to return, Fran will welcome him back with open arms and Fran will try to figure out how to utilize Keegan's abilities to Iowa's advantage.... if that happens.

Fair enough, and I can agree with that. But most players aren't teammates with their twin brother on the same division 1 program their father played on, let alone helped produce them as a first team All-American.

There's a lot of sentimental value there outside of making money.
Make no mistake. This is business. This is what he wants to do for his career. There's really no room for sentiment.

If keegan stays and Fran finds an above average big man, lookout.

Answer the question on the statement you made in post # 87
I did, you took my comment in a literal sense in Fran allowing him back and now you are working under a faulty premise. I was putting an emphasis on how important it is for Fran to push Keegan to go to the NBA. Of course Fran welcomes him back if he chooses to come back but Fran should do everything in his power to push him to the NBA

Not a faulty premise, just read what you said as stated and wanted to know why you said it that way.
Thanks for the answer.

If Keegan is a lottery pick—no brainer—he goes. Anything else, staying or going is a good decision. It is extremely rare to have career ending injuries in today’s world. If he comes back—If it was me—I would say then my brother gets starter minutes!

Fran is definitely in the equation to make sure the young man makes the right decision. Head coaches have a massive impact on young people and help sway their decision. If I’m Fran I would tell him you are going to the NBA no matter what. Don’t even try or act like there is a chance that he would come back.

But if Fran tries to lose Keegan millions of dollars to convince him to return for selfish reasons, I believe he should be fired as he is showing he isn’t in it for the players future.
You're assuming that if Keegan returns to Iowa, Fran suggested he do so.

It appears as though many commenting here think money is the only factor in Keegan's decision. Maybe it is, but maybe it's not. Keegan appears to be a bright young man who will likely be successful in whatever he might choose to do beyond basketball. Maybe playing one more year of college BB with his brother and teammates, pursuing a deeper NCAA tournament run, and giving back to a program and coach who've done a lot for him motivates him more than money.

I don't think he returns but I think despite decent stats today, this loss will probably hurt his draft stock at least a little. Could fall out of the top 10, maybe out of the top 15.
REALLY?!? Tell me a college or pro player that DOES NOT have a subpar game in a loss? Oh yeah…no one. Replay the potential “flagrant” foul in the first 5 mins and watch his face. He didn’t even tell his brother he rolled his ankle and didn’t have any burst. Keegan never has excuses, and the ref didn’t do his job on that call (where there was ZERO play on the ball). So let’s leave the draft analysis to the experts.

Keegan should go if he is as high a draft pick as projected. That being said he did get exposed a bit today. This was a game he should have taken over and he disappeared. Great player and nothing but the best for him. He might have slipped some in the draft
Rolled his ankle in the first five minutes on what should have been a flagrant foul.

They aren't 13 years old. They are 22 this year. Are they going to live together when they are 30?

I don't think people quite grasp what is going to be handed to the young man and his family. A check so large that it alters your entire family life for generations potentially.

Love the kid and Murray's but go get paid kid. We aren't talking about playing in Europe and making $800,000 (Garza).

Keegan going pro actually improves Kris's stock to get drafted substantially as well. Kris's team next year and he takes the role of Keegan next year.
However, I don’t see why you (and others on the Keegan to NBA bandwagon) don’t “grasp” that the NBA money would still be there the year after next for the Murray brothers.

If you sign a contract and you blow your knee out you have money to make decisions for your future. If you stay and blow your knee you don't. Athletes have a limited shelf life, get the money when the door is open. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching KM play, and he will always be a great hawk, he should get paid for his abilities while he knows he can. The world is full of guys who "coulda played" but got injured.

A lot of people think $'s are the ultimate prize in life. Not necessarily the case for a lot of folks.

I will gladly toss in some $ for an insurance policy that would keep him comfortable for life if he sustained a career ending injury.
And who knows, perhaps Keegan actually feels an allegiance to Iowa and wants to leave on a happier note than being bounced in one of the very first games in the tournament.

Agreed

Go get your money. You don't owe anything more to the university.
I believe attitudes like this are what hurts us. Why do people push our difference makers away? NBA this and NBA that. Does everything have to be about money? Maybe all sports programs push their budding stars to leave? My God, some of you are even promoting Kris Murray to the NBA before he even starts a single college game. Ridiculous.

You obviously hold a very jaundiced view of McCaffery. I can't think of a single example of his putting his interests over a player's and I seriously doubt that he is actively doing his best to convince Keegan to stay. Just like redshirting. He lets the player make the decision even though he may think it is the incorrect one.

There might be something to this. Apparently there wasn’t much D-1 interest in Keegan and Kris coming out of high school. Fran saw potential and pursued them hard.

Playing for Iowa has given them both a chance to shine, and they have, Keegan being unanimous first team B1G and getting All American recognition. They got to hoist the BTT trophy.

Do they feel loyalty to Fran and a desire to get back to the Dance next year with the expectation of staying longer?

A big question for Keegan, and perhaps for Kris, too, is whether the supporting cast will be as good or better in the 22-23 edition? You’re losing Jbo and Cmac, both of whom could be either a liability or a game-saver, depending on the night and even the point in the game. Will Kris get more minutes next year and will both Murrays being on the floor at the same time make for a better team?

A lot for both Murray’s to consider.

Keegan talked about changing the history of IOWA basketball. Despite the great run in the BTT, they haven't done it. Fran still doesn't win in the big dance...until he does, the trajectory hasn't changed.

Put that together with the idea that he may want to play with his brother one more year, I could see Keegan coming back despite the fact that many see him as a lottery pick. We'll know in about 5 weeks.
Frans inability to adapt cost us the game as much as the shooting. 1 player can't change everything.

Would be a horrible look for any coach and they all know that

I can't say I know that much about pro basketball but watching this tournament it would seem to me he would not be close to a first round pick. Just looking at the talent level in the tournament it's amazing to think KM would go very high.

Dude just posted an opinion based on what he has seen on TV the past couple days. Why the need to be nasty?
Because it’s a message board and he made an opinion about something he obviously has no idea about. He literally disrespected Keegan saying he was not even close to a first round pick so I felt the need to #protect his name on anonymous message board

If Keegan wants to return Fran should say no. If he gives a single f$%^ about Keegan's future he should not let him take that risk.

No impact on his draft stock. Could some other dude become a shiny new toy by going off in the tournament? Sure, but KM didn't lose any money with his performance.
