Keegan Cryptic Message?

Fair enough, and I can agree with that. But most players aren't teammates with their twin brother on the same division 1 program their father played on, let alone helped produce them as a first team All-American.

There's a lot of sentimental value there outside of making money.
Kris and Keegan will both probably leave. Teams see Kris and what he can be in Keegan. I think they both leave for the NBA.

You obviously hold a very jaundiced view of McCaffery. I can't think of a single example of his putting his interests over a player's and I seriously doubt that he is actively doing his best to convince Keegan to stay. Just like redshirting. He lets the player make the decision even though he may think it is the incorrect one.
I’ve wondered about this. Patrick over Keegan last season and Kris this season. Makes you wonder what could of happened if you play the best all around players that can play offense on one end and defend/rebound on the other.

NOPE. Not if he decides to leave. Waiting patiently to find out.
Aw man, even you don't know? Dang! Maybe his words in that press conference weren't so cryptic after all! 😂

Whatever he chooses to do, he is definitely loved by all of us. There's no question about that.

The bond of indentical twins could is more powerful then any amount of money. Keegan wants to come back and take care of unfinished business AND get draft with Kris.

He dad will probably be in his ear about going to the league, but he comes back.

Are you saying Kenyon coming on the boards to engage with fans is "lame"? Your mental age appears to be stuck at 13. I appreciate him taking time to actually talk with people on this board. I think your lame post speaks way more about you then him.
It’s poster like JMSBFD who take pleasure in putting people down. Maybe I am an eternal optimist, but life is so much enjoyable when we lift/hold people up, and celebrate them for who they are and what they do. I am not perfect. Completely flawed and I am at peace with that. I just try to give another perspective as a former player, coach and current father of an Iowa athlete. I will continue to do so regardless. Go Hawks!!

I've kind've changed my mind on this subject. Keegan needs to hit the road and except whatever NBA draft pick he gets.
If Keegan did come back there wouldn't be enough minutes to accommodate everyone.
Kris needs more minutes to not only develop but to establish himself as a the top dog and with Patrick, Sandford, Rebraca, Mulvey, and Josh there's just not enough minutes in the front court if you add Keegan.
Iowa's back court of Joe T, Perkins, Ahron, Bowen, Kingsbury, and Laketa is also packed with minutes hard to find. I know this is not the most popular opinion but it is what it is.

I'm not expecting much from mulvey and jo. Hope I'm wrong because if not, could be a long season

Does it? Did you watch the game Saturday? Was Patrick the issue? Not sure where your getting the Patrick over Keegan thing last year, because he wasn't playing over Keegan who was basically the 6th man last year, but I assume you already know this. YES, Luka, (the NPOY last season) played more then Keegan. For the record if Patrick hadn't hit three 3's in the second half yesterday we probably get run out of the gym. Other then Keegan who was hobbled Pmac was the only one on the team who was both aggressive and making shots. I would think after winning 12 or 14 down the stretch and the tourney title while breaking almost EVERY BIG tourney record for scoring, made three's and margin this shit would simmer down, but NO. So your post is that Pmac was the issue yesterday? Seriously?....

We thought that this year would be a challenge but the players proved us wrong.
The loss of Keegan is going to be a big loss for sure, Kris may come close, but you don't replace a athletic consensuses All-American with even his brother and there's no one on Iowa's roster that matches Kris's athleticism. There just isn't.
If Iowa is to maintain at least 4th or 5th place in the Big Ten either Riley or Josh will have to pick up the slack of Keegan's departure. There's no other way around it. One of those 2 has to step up and provide some shot blocking ability to anchor the middle. That is not Rebraca's forte.
Fran values and relies on his front line to score the majority of Iowa's points and Perkins is the only returning guard that showed any improvement shooting the basketball.
Can Iowa get any consistent offensive production from Joe T, Ulis, Bowen, Kingsbury, or Laketa to offset the Loss of Keegan? If not Iowa will be exposed again and other teams will pack it in and shut downs Iowa's offensive.
It's happened all too often under the coaching of Fran....

Good attitude. Anonymous internet idiot posters just aren't worth the time or frustration.

Thanks for posting. We appreciate the honest info. All the best for your family!

Don't sell the kids coming back short. LOTS of athleticism there. The drive that Keegan has to improve is what they all need. Luka had it. I am hoping that it is a program-wide thing going forward.

I believe attitudes like this are what hurts us. Why do people push our difference makers away? NBA this and NBA that. Does everything have to be about money? Maybe all sports programs push their budding stars to leave? My God, some of you are even promoting Kris Murray to the NBA before he even starts a single college game. Ridiculous.

You have to look at it in the bigger picture than the right now. Keegan is a top 10 pick by about every prognosticators review. He would be silly to stay for another year.

Also, the more kids you get into the league in football and basketball, the easier it is to sell to higher level recruits for them to join you.

Luka is in Europe? Making only $800k? That's news to all of us.

Oh no, he's got a 2 year $2.5MM contract with the Pistons, with over $900k guaranteed.

That is what he was offered prior to coming back at Iowa for his Senior year.

I really don't think some fans get it. Keegan stock can only go down from here.. He did exactly what he needed to do this year..Improve his 3pt shot and become a 1st team AA and arguably best offensive player in college bball.

All these kids dream of making the NBA and doing it in the Lottery and walking on that stage just doesn't happen for 99.9% of college players.

Not an NBA guy, but I have to doubt that Keegan would be the first projected lottery pick that made the decision to return to college for another year. He has to weigh all the issues and make the decision that will make him the happiest.

As for next year, I truly hope McCaffery wakes up and recognizes how many other teams have improved their seasons by bringing in players from the portal. We desperately need a big man who can defend, guard the rim and score a bit. We have a good prospect in Owen Freeman coming in next year and after another year, I would hope that either Ogundele or Mulvey have improved their games to pick up the slack until one of them proves to be the answer. If McCaffery decides to sit with a pat hand, it will be very disappointing and make me wonder if he is too set in his ways to coach in this era of transfers.

Kevin O'Connor (Who I respect) from The Ringer has Keegan going 5th:

He needs to go pro. Make us proud, young man! The youth out there. Look here, we just put FOUR players in The League - none of them five star recruits.

That perception is just not true. That only works for programs like Duke, North Caroline, Michigan, Michigan St, Ohio St, some SEC teams, and others that have coaches that recruit 5 star players knowing that they only have 1 year to have those players in there program.
Remember it was just yesterday (relatively speaking) that an Iowa basketball recruit signed with Michigan St because as he said something like, he didn't want to follow in Garza's footsteps. Did I get that right?
Has Fran ever successfully recruited a 5 star player, NO, and he probably never will. He relies on 3 and 4 star players and tries to coach them up. Getting a Aaron White or a Luka Garza or the Murray bothers doesn't come often.
The problem with Fran is that he only gets a few of these type players and fills the rest of his roster with a supporting cast of good but not great players. Hence: 12 years of never getting past the first weekend of the tournament.
Losing Keegan after his sophomore season hurts Iowa more then a Blue Blood program, sure maybe Keegan's brother will turn out just as good as Keegan but whose going to replace Kris's spot on the roster?
As I've said before it is what it is.
As Iowa fans we've been through this for 12 years now under Fran, my time is getting short, but maybe next year will be the year that Iowa breaks through.
The odds are getting longer as the years goes bye.

Got nothing but love and best wishes for Keegan! We were really fortunate to have him on the team and can't wait to see where he goes in the draft. I know I'll be buying his jersey when it becomes available! I guess there was nothing cryptic in the post-game press conference afterall
