Ladies vs O$U

I've watched a couple games now, Clark is a great offensive player, had some passes that were pinpoint that teammates couldn't handle. Some of her teammates had boneheaded turnovers as well, so I see where some frustrations may come from. With that being said, the end of regulation was difficult to swallow. How do you drive to the hoop with 20 seconds left, when there's 4 seconds difference between the shot clock and game clock. Really really bizarre. All of the girls play poor defense, OSU just drove around them whenever they wanted. Not the most athletic team, hopefully next years class can help right away.

I don't know that they are poorly prepared. They have athletic deficiencies, which get exposed against teams like Ohio State. When you are slower, shorter and not as strong as your opponent, you have to do everything right. And Iowa did not. They just don't quite have enough to beat good teams.
Looking like they were poorly prepared doesn't mean they weren't prepared. I didn't see the 1st half, but they were up 12, and with what I saw in the 2nd half, I am not sure there are huge deficiencies between them and Ohio St. I saw a team that didn't take care of the basketball and made really poor decisions. I would say that is more about the youth of the team.

I didn't see Goodman or Lauren Jensen play. Not sure what's up with that.

Well said on all. Obviously CC is a dynamic scorer, but the entire team played pretty horrid defense. Meyer seems like the best chance to keep a player in front of her, but the lack of sheer athleticism on this team is really glaring. Most everyone had a number of head-scratching decisions and turnovers. Hopefully it's the 'youth' showing through, but they've all played so much ball you would think they'd know better.

I think it was a matchup thing for Goodman. Ohio State's true center was on the bench still recovering from Covid, according to the announcers. Not sure why she would even be there if that was the case. So them playing a quicker 4 in the post would have been an impossible cover for Goodman. Czinano had enough trouble as it was. So Bluder went with Logan Cook instead.

I presume Jensen didn't play because her ballhandling couldn't be trusted. Sevillian didn't play either, probably for the same reason. Not that it mattered, since the starters turned the ball over enough as it was.

One issue I see with this team is a lack of senior leadership. The only ones are Sevillian and Sanders, who play little and are not leaders anyway. It is going to have to come from somewhere else. In the past, experienced seniors like Doyle, Makenzie Meyer, Gustafson et cetera would settle the team down in crunch time and will them to a win.

Youth and inexperience definitely showed up yesterday. The other thing was that in the first half Iowa got all the offensive rebounds, and in the second half it's the opposite. And missing free throws at the end of regulation course. Eerily like the men's game at Minnesota on that regard.

On a side note, had to catch part of the game on the radio. Rob Brooks makes Dolph sound like a virtuoso! Yeesh!
