Last night, Feb 26, Jack McCaffery made it clear he won't be attending Iowa

Probably for the best. It does make me wonder if Fran would consider another job, if another high-level school were interested. Be glad to see Patrick go with him.

Another of my favorites, I laughed my butt off when this happened live.

I'd argue it's a slope. If he played 32 games a year for 4 years that's a 8pt and 4reb/assist average.
You play 32 games a year for 4 years means you play as rue frosh and an iron man for 4 years never missing games due to sickness or injury. You make scoring 1,000 points sound so easy and in the history of Iowa basketball that makes you top 50 all time. Pair that with rebounds and assists and Iowa probably hasn’t had 10 players accomplish these 3 totals. Players like Garza, Bohannon, and the Murray brothers didn’t get over your “slope”.

Maybe he just doesn’t want his dad as his coach.
He’s been immersed in this program for most of his life. Might want to break out on his own. I never considered staying at home for college and luckily I was financially able to go elsewhere and start trying to be a grownup.

Oh GMAFB. I don't feel bad for anyone who reads Twitter comments. So avoidable. And to lump an entire fanbase into the 0.1% of Twitter/Message board people is so incredibly stupid. McCaffery's are so thin skinned its unbelievable.
I agree. The negative fans get all the attention from the players. Ever notice how Kirk and the players talk the same way? Hardly mentions the fans....it's always "all we care about is who is in the locker room." I wonder how much football players would play without fans/revenue?

And there you have it keyboard warriors. Your insatiable negativity does have an effect and can in fact hurt the team you supposedly support.

Iowa is missing out on a good player. Hope you all are proud of yourselves
No other school has fans that complain excessively on the Internet.

This is hardly the first kid who has mentioned fan negativity. Nobody wants to hear that though…

Accountability is something that’s good for others, not them….😛

Because Iowa is the only university with negative fans.

LOL….funny comment. I’ve been trying to get people to realize this for years.

Iowa fans aren’t smart, their not enlightened, they aren’t specially gifted with a coach who plays the wrong guys, coach’s poorly, etc…

“That fan“ is the same on every single board in America always up in arms about the damn coach losing a game for them…

And yes, the kids notice, and it becomes more of a thing all the time. I’m always glad to hear players call out bullshit.

People have to pay for their ignorant takes.

The point is that the negativity can have an effect.

Sure people have a right to their opinion. Sure people have a right to express it. But that doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.

When having been surveyed the data shows that coaches have consistently answered that dealing with the community and parents is the worst part of their job.

Yes, the negativity has an effect. Nothing good can come from it. And negative fans act like it's their right to hurt the team they cheer for. Get a clue

Bingo!

I suppose if you are still on the fence about Fran's nepotism, you probably still believe Brian Ferentz didn't get speical treatment in his rise to OC at University of Iowa.

Not really debateable about the special treatment and nepotism if you aren't a family member or for some reason have special loyalty towards Fran's family. CMAC started ahead of NBA player Keegan Murray and PMAC started ahead of NBA player Kris Murray. Only those that live in a world of unmeasureable and unquantifiable attributes would say either of the McCaffery boys should have started and played more minutes over the Murray brothers.

The good thing about Jack going elsewhere is it will mean Fran is no longer tempted to live vicariously through the B-ball play of his boys. Whatever PT Jack earns at his destination will be largely earned on his own, though he has had benefits as a Div1 coaches son of being part of the "insider" network that other players don't have. There is no hate involved---only belief we should all compete based on merit, not DNA.

Didn’t you have a daughter that played softball for you ?

Incessantly b*tching about players/coaches = bad

I’m essentially b*tching about posters b*tching = admirable and allows poster to feel better than others.

Keep of the good fight

Both can be true…🤷‍♂️ they aren’t mutually exclusive 😊….

Utterly useless on both accounts! Much less of both would be good?👍

Regarding Jack’s comments about the attacks, that’s on him for paying attention to it as his parents should be telling him to not be on social media. Anyone that spends anytime on it is wasting their time and energy. It truly is a cesspool of worthless information and nothing to take to heart or pay attention to what idiots have to say, Hawkeye fans or not.
Sorry, you can only reach “complete obliviousness to irony” status if you post this on Twitter.

Question - wasn't it reported like last summer that Jack had indicated he didn't want to go to Iowa like his brothers?

Its twitter.

Nobody cares about the couple hundred boomers who still post on message boards.
I work in a public place where Iowa sports is part of the daily conversation. It's not at all uncommon that I hear someone repeat something almost verbatim that's been posted on this site.

Plus, people that post on this site are expressing their same thoughts elsewhere.

Players can't go to class without hearing something (whether it be positive or negative) about their team/play.

The roll of the fan is to support, period. So you're either working for your team or you're working against them

Iowa is no different than any other school. He is going to face negative comments no matter where he goes. Get a clue.

If Jack thinks everything is always going to be sunshine and roses somewhere else....he is in for a rude awakening. Best to take Outback Bowl's advice: stay off social media.

And no...I am not saying it's ok to berate players.
Sure, but you're kidding yourself if you think Connor and Patrick didn't get more than their fair share solely due to their last names.

Both were good players at Iowa - not great, but not terrible like some would like to argue. Connor dealt with injuries for much of his team which greatly affected his mobility; Patrick likewise has had to deal with more healthwise than most of the posters on this board - it makes me disappointed in fellow Iowa fans when they take potshots at Patrick when he had to take time to deal with his mental health issues.

Hope for the best for Jack - preferably at a non-big 10 school.

So if iowa fans don’t support Brian Ferentz, they are working against the team?!! Got it! Thanks for clearing that one up. Take a lap and a break.

No where on earth will an athlete be able to escape negativity and criticism on social media.

It doesn't matter if you like it, that's simply the way the world is.

Best thing one can do to avoid it is not have a Twitter account.

Kids don't know what message boards are just like they don't know what a lazer disc is.

Fan disapproval has no positive value. There are well paid AD's that are plenty capable of making decisions in regards to the employment of their coaches
