Midlands PBP: Session 3

I don't see Meyer ever beating Walters, he got abused on the mat in that match.

Considering how Gravina rode Brooks, I'm sure taylor will have little trouble.

Brooks in on a shot
DT scrambles out and gets a TD
Slammin sammy very near a TD there

end of 2
1-4 but DT has riding time at 1:51

I thought that the NCAA outlawed post-grad competing in these types of tournaments?

If that is not the case, why are there so many fewer post-grads in Midlands now, than say 10 years ago?

They didn't outlaw them. I think part of the reason attendance is lower is because so many of the wrestlers today want to exclusively focus on freestyle.

There was an All American a few years ago, perhaps from ASU, named Matt that bumped up several weight classes after graduation to wrestle HWT and registered his name as Fatt. He ended up going 2-2 in Midlands.

I wish more grads would come back to wrestle Midlands otherwise it's just a very watered down Nationals.

all DT tds come of counters

Jennifer-Lawrence-ok-thumbs-up.gif

Taylor down to start third
Sammy with spiral ride
DT tripod up and immediately into Sammy's ankle
Looked like esc and TD but ref gives RV

B looked dead to rights, but kicks out and avoids td
end of 1
2-1

Not impressed at all by Meyer's tournament. Where's the offense?

It was pretty bad. That being said, perhaps he needed an outing like this against an opponent like Walters to get him to come out of his shell a little. He is good when he lets the fur fly...not when he wrestles tight/conservative/trying to avoid mistakes. Could be a very, very good loss in retrospect if he learns and grows from it.

Wish we had the Meyer back from last year. Remember that guy that went out and wrestled hard?

Seems to be a trend at this weight for Iowa. Remember the Mike Evans that went out and racked up majors left and right his first couple years only to win a bunch of close, low scoring decisions as a senior?

Are you 12? Geezuz man. This practice has been going on for years, and sadly there aren't near as many David Taylor's entered as there used to be.

In order to give you a break, and so I don't have to read your Chess mentality, I'm just putting you on Ignore. Have a nice life anyway.
Who's acting 12 here? Simple conversation man. No more no less.

I really like what I'm reading about our STUD 5. Wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see Iowa with all 5 in the NCAA finals.

Thought it was a pretty good match by Sammy...Yea, Taylor rode the hell out of him but no back points and Sammy was aggressive on his feet. Was able to get to DT's legs quite a bit but it's that whole finishing thing ;) It's real tough on him. Kind of surprised DT didn't want to work neutral a lot more since mat wrestling doesn't really count for sh*t in freestyle...that is if he came to the Midlands to stay sharp.

I kinda wish Brands had targeted Kemerer to hit the weights and be ready to possibly go 157. We never seem to plan ahead real well. Even know his build looks a lot more like 157 than Sorensen to me.

MVP -- How do you know that Kemerer didn't hit the weights all off season? Kemerer is much stronger now than he was as a high school senior. Kemerer wrestled 106, 126, 138 and 145 in high school and his now at 149. Time will tell if he ever grows into a full size D1 157.

I really like what I'm reading about our STUD 5. Wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see Iowa with all 5 in the NCAA finals.

I would, Burak would have to get through either McIntosh or Cox to make the finals and he didn't really show any ability to score against those guys last year. McIntosh really extended the gap between the two from the prior year.

I just hope that Sorensen can do enough this season to get the #1 seed and on the opposite side of the bracket from TShirt and Zain. Let those two guys fight it out for the finals.

I'm excited about Brooks and think he is a legitimate contender. I'd take him as the favorite in any match except Dean.

My biggest concern this tournament has been Meyer. We really need him on the podium to win it all. He just got worked by a low all American at best and he required a ride out to beat another inferior opponent. At this stage he's a round of 12 guy at best.

Cooper won a solid match but then got destroyed by Gnatt and looked sloppy in his last match. He'll be lucky to win 2 matches at Nats.

stoll choses bottom to begin 3rd
gwiz riding hard to start period
stoll flat again and gets called for stalling
1 pt gwiz
1-8 now
1 minute left
gwiz still riding tough
gwiz very active at all times
esp for hwt
stoll flat again
another stall on stoll
another pt for gwiz
1-9
final score will be 1-10 after riding time
stoll to back side

I'm very confident brooks can/will be wrestling on Saturday night. Meyer needed a wake up call just wish it wasnt so dominant.

Ethen Lofthouse, Grambrall, Evans, Moore, and now Meyers. All good wrestlers that just wouldn't or couldn't kick it in gear. They are mysteries to me.

I'm sure Brooks thought he could win and tried to win. If he hadn't Taylor would have pinned or teched him. Knowing Brooks he's not happy. I'm not worried about Brooks.
