My 10 favorite Iowa b-ball players during my years of watching.

My #1 is still Ronnie Lester, and after this past season I'd have to put Luka up at #2. After that it's more a matter of determining who makes the cut, because it's hard to have a clear ranking. BJ would obviously be in there, and so would Acie Earl. The shot-blocking alone puts Acie there, but the unorthodox moves on offense were also entertaining.

1. Luka Garza
2. Roy Marble
3. Aaron White
4. Peter Jok
5. Reggie Evans
6. BJ Armstrong
7. Kevin Gamble
8. Jordan Bohannon
9. Andre Woolridge
10. Devyn Marble
Honorable Mention: Ryan Bowen, Ed Horton, Matt Gatens, Doug Thomas, Ricky Davis, Ray Thompson, Jake Kelly, Jarrod Uthoff, Jess Settles, Gerry Wright

No Chris Street?

This is very difficult because I love most of them...and I will list the ones I think I remember most favorably until someone mentions someone else...:

Chris Street
Jess Settles
Luka Garza
Andre Woolridge
Greg Brunner
Vince Brookins
Al Lorenzen
Chauncey Leslie (maybe the most underrated Hawkeye of all time)
Peter Jok
Jacob Jaaks

Kingsbury
Going old school

I am going to list players from the old old days only just so they get the respect they deserve and are remembered. Carl Cain, Bill Logan, Murry Weir, Don Nelson, Chuck Darling, and the rest of the fabulous five that played against Bill Russel in the NCAA finals. Also Connie Hawkins who never played for Iowa but I saw play in freshman games.

Street
Horner
Oliver
Garza
Wieskamp
Settles
Woolridge
White
McCausland
Evans

Some of mine

James Winters- he was all that was left after a lot of good players graduating. They played duke to a 3 point game at carver which Was my first game at carver.
Kingsbury
Evans
Woolridge
Street- I still can’t believe they made us go to school the day after.
Leslie- how he stepped into a leadership role.
Brunner

Agree. Ronnie Lester.

Garza, Lester, Marble Sr, Ray Thompson, B Hansen, J Range, A Woolridge, C Kingsbury, R Davis, BJ Armstrong

Good call on Ray Thompson-only played 3 semesters but he was on his way to being an all time great had he not flunked out. Averaging 19pts a game first semester of his soph year before he left. 1st team all Chicago area (which includes hundreds if not a couple thousand players his senior yr). Poured in 27 pts that December in an 87-74 thrashing of North Carolina.

What a shame.

*Rodell Davis (also out of Chicago) another good but somewhat forgotten Hawkeye. Not a top 10 for me but a very good and underappreciated player.

No Chris Street?

This is an incredibly subjective exercise. Chris was a really good player, but I just had other guys ahead of him. My criteria probably skews for offensive skills. Reggie Evans would be an exception along with maybe Ryan Bowen. I also really liked watching Chris Kingsbury and Adam Haluska. Really tough even with adding honorable mention. I tried not to over weight guys that played 4 years (or six years in case of Jess!). Guys who did not stick around long like Jake Kelly and Ray Thompson were budding stars and very fun to watch, IMHO.

I was a little kid in the 80s, so I'll just name players from the 90s on.

1. Chris Street
2. Andre Woolridge
3. Acie Earl
4. Jess Settles
5. Luka Garza
6. Reggie Evans
7. Dean Oliver
8. Peter Jok
9. Ryan Bowen
10. Kenyon Murray

Honorable mention: Roy Marble Jr., Aaron White, Adam Haluska, JR Koch, Chris Kingsbury

Totally.

No matter how you do it, you're leaving out a lot of great Hawkeyes with only ten.

Good list for sure. I forgot Acie Earl. Dean Oliver was another great player too.

I started watching Iowa hoops in 1986-87, hard for me not to include tons of guys from that little era in late 80's. I had to leave off guys like Brad Lohaus, Jeff Moe, Bill Jones and Matt Bullard.

I was able to watch a practice in 1986. Gerry Wright was unbelievable. Dr. Tom ended practice and said "the rims are yours." Wright could do a cartwheel dunk, easily dunk two balls, and could pull off some other amazing dunks that defy my ability to describe, at that time were pretty incredible. That pushed him onto my radar and cannot forget some of his abilities.

My top 10 in no particular order since watching full time in 1989-90. I knew about Marble, BJ, Horton, Lohaus, Jeff Moe (got his autograph even) but can't say I watched them consistently enough to judge in real time.

Jess Settles
Chris Kingsbury
Andre Woolridge
Russ Millard
Dean Oliver
Luke Recker
Aaron White
Mike Gesell

I'm jealous. I was just too young back then, although I certainly remember watching a lot of those guys from that era. I remember Ed Horton had a funny way of shooting free throws. Lol.
