Nebby grades

I know beating psu is going to be virtually impossible but man I really like this team. A lot of fire and guys looking to score. Some crazy moments at times but entertaining and definitely the 2nd best team in the country and with a little more improvement and a little luck it’s possible. One thing for sure is it’s going to be fun!
PSU will have five matches with the higher ranked wrestler. Iowa should have five matches with the higher ranked wrestler.
Iowa wins by:

Spencer getting six.

Giving up no bonus points to their four defending national champions.

Higher ranked guy (Assuming Cass moves ahead of KerkV) wins at 141, 149, 157, 165 and Hwt. Giving Iowa 4 out of 5. That would be 18 to 15 Iowa, with only Spencer getting bonus points.

Little room for error.

Hawks looked great, so please excuse my nit picking. As is my nature, I will always look to areas needing improvement. Conditioning.

Warner was disappointing but really nothing new. He needs coaching help to improve both his conditioning & mental toughness. Was hoping he could find some 🔥 in his final year. Sadly not (yet).

I was disappointed in Nelson’s effort to generate offense & win against a wrestler with a much better resume. Felt like an opportunity lost & could have been a turning point in his confidence. Seemed too content to have kept it close.

DeSanto won a FS match on conditioning earlier today. Sadly, I don’t see this happening with most current Hawks. Still a great meet last night.

This thread is turning out to be pretty entertaining. Wish the video would have shown the after match activities! Terry should have kept his shoe off and smacked a few nebbies upside their heads.

Some fans are a little suspect? Certainly you may not be as big a homer as me or some others on here, but posting/bragging about our enemies, putting our guys down a little TWOO much etc !?!?!?

Grading does get a little tricky. sometimes I feel I need more choices. Maybe instead of letter grades, have to go to numerical?

Lets give it a try and see how it looks?

LEE a 110 out of a 100

Teske 80 first match back, worked hard, fought and won!

Woods 90 Got takedown first, but then came roaring back. Needs to make some adjustments on the tilt with that dude. Beat a high ranked kid(4 or 5) faded some at end.

Murin 96 Came out swinging and got the fall. Not a top kid but did about all you could ask!

Cobe 75 Stood toe to toe with the #1 guy.

Kennedy 85 quick off the draw, slowed some, then put it on to get major.

Brands 76 Another tuff battle with a high ranked kid. Needed to take some more chances/fire off some shots to have a shot to win.

Assad 82.5 Good win, tuff wrestling, did what he had to. Beat a quality kid, showed some good HP with that lift. Would have liked to see a little more separation

Warner 79 got a win coming back from whatever was keeping him out? Did not look great and hasn't all year so far. Need him to do what he does and get better as season goes

BIG Cass, 100 put on a good show to end the match with a fall against a guy who was just trying to survive!

You guys are seriously morons.

3.8k posts and not a Hawkeye fan. Lolololol

30 seconds of homework and you will see posts in the football and basketball threads as well.

Like naming by baby kittens when I was a kid, Val, Barnes, and AC. Many on here wouldn’t even understand the reasoning.

I’m not a Hawkeye fan for giving an A grade to Woods.

F’n priceless.
Baby kittens, hmmm

Yep, how we beat the F*** st guys

Lee fall 6-0

Teske keep it close 6-3

Woods win 9-3

Murin win 12-3

Cobe win 15-3

Kennedy win 18-3

Brands stay close 18-6

Assad same 18-9

Warner same stay close 18-12

BIG Cass don't get majored/pinned

Certainly a TALL order but not asking for anything TWOOO crazy here. Could also lose one from 141-165 and have BIG Cass get a W.

GO HAWKS!!!!

OK this is what I have for you.

125 Abby normal!!! Absolutely crazy!!!

133 Teske C+ back in wrestling Tuff and hard found a way to win!

141 Woods -A beat a high ranked opponent, still doesn't have his full tank it seems. I will add, I would pay good $$$ to see him and Eireman go at it for a practice! I have no idea how that would actually go??? Man it would be entertaining!

149 Murin- A trust your stuff kid and let it fly!!!

157 I wanna give the kid an A but it is still a loss? #1 ranked kid, kept it close. reg decision, did not back down. Maybe a B?

165 Kennedy B+ came out swinging with a quick TWOOOO then slowed a little then poured it on to get major.

174 Bands Highest ranking you can give in a loss similar to 157. Would have liked to see him fire off a good shot at the end.

184 Assad C+ sloppy but got win against ranked kid

197 Warner B, cutting him some slack because I think his knee is hurting him? Hoping he heals up quickly!

Heavy BIG Cass A kicking Ass!

Carver A+ looked like it was packed and rocking!!!

Terry A thought he was going to wing his shoe off the REFs Noggin!!!!

REFs certainly better than the crap in PA!

Feeling better about 174 and 184 keeping it close against F*** st. Worried about Warner. Need BIG Cass to beat KerKin!
I’m worried about that knee if Dean gets to that bow and arrow

Snyder aggressively approached Terry and they exchanged words and solid poke in the chest or 2. Security separated that and began to panic. Snyder and some of the athletes, lead by Labriola started challenging fans to fights and tried to push past security and police to get in the crowd. Terry came back to try to deescalate things and was met with more rabid vitriol and had to be aggressively separated again. Police remained with Nebraska and gave them an escort out of Carver. There aren’t 2 bigger jackasses in the sport than Manning and Snyder aside from that sicko Chris Bono.
I mean you can’t really blame nebby coaches for losing composure. They walked in with a #2 ranking flying high and basically took a savage arse beating. Even 57 and 74 were lack luster wins for them. I think we should send them thank you cards for helping give our guys a work outs instead of criticizing them.

Also big shout out to the police for protecting a wounded nebby team as they limped out of carver.

Damn, Warner got a better grade than Teske? JWar is an NCAA finalist who won on riding time vs an unranked kid. ( Flo has him at #20). Teske wrestled his ass off and didn’t quit in just his 3rd match of the year. He’s trending the right way, JWar ain’t.
I’m with you. If Warner’s knee is banged up let him rest and heal. But frankly I think it’s not the knee; he’s simply not wrestling…not doing anything. That effort is an F; looked shitty against an average wrestler. Again, if it is the knee then stay away until it’s 100 percent so he can actually wrestle; he’s too good to be putting on these embarrassing performances.

Agree completely on the amount of time to secure the fall, unacceptable. On positive note, Lee finally showed he can shoot to the left side and can actually turn an opponent with other than a tilt. Maybe the appropriate grade is somewhere between an A- and solid A.

Also…I once again saw nothing from him in the second and third periods.

Not excusing Warner but Allred is better than average. His other 4 losses are twice to #12 Tanner Sloan and twice to #6 Isaac Trumble. He majored #29 Davison from Northwestern and beat #15
Owen Pentz from NDSU. Also beat #23 Hoffman from Ohio St and #29 Foy from Minnesota.

Seriously though, my only worry with Lee is dudes in March ( realistically Glory is the only one with a shot) will have a game plan that includes survive till the 3rd period and try to wear him out and steal a win late in the third. We’ve seen him gas a number of times due to the long injury layoff, I’m sure in the room his cardio is getting ironed out, but he hasn’t even been to the 2 period in a bit. Maybe on Sunday Barnett can survive more than 3 minutes and make him work?

I just can’t see Lee losing a match that goes 7 or more minutes. I think the only chance is if someone catches him, like Piccininni down in Stillwater or heck like Ramos almost did with Purdue. He’s on a mission.

Tell us you don't watch the matches without telling us you don't watch the matches.

His TD on Ramos was to the left leg. Neither of his pins the prior two weeks were turns by tilt.

I love the complaints about the ref. Pretty sure it was the same ref that did the Purdue match and everyone jerked off to him. lol

Also, Woods hasn't had a lot of mat time due to a pretty rough illness. His lungs will improve.

I get so tired of the Warner bashing. If you are Hawk fan, the least you can do is have a little ****ing respect in how you post this crap. I mean the guy has only made the stand what 3 times? Judge after the season is over.
I don’t bash Warner, but I do get disappointed that doesn’t think he’s as good as he is. If we could transplant Spencer’s brain into to J-war I think we’d see a different guy.

It’s always been in his head. How do you coach a guy to stop thinking and just wrestle?

Agreed. 7th, 4th and then 2nd. Prior to the NCAA tourney he had 4 losses in 2019, 4 losses 2020 (tourney cancelled), 2 losses 2021, and 5 losses last year.

I am not sure what you want. The guy was 1 TD away from a NCAA championship last year. I'd say his head is just fine.

If, and this is looking like a big if by the week, Lee has to go a full 7 minutes in March, it would be on Friday or Saturday night. The weigh-ins are in the AM everyday, I would seriously doubt he’ll have any gas tank problems by evening.

We see things differently, enough said. Although I’ll add that last years results don’t help winning this year.

I am not a J-War hater. I see his potential when he’s wrestling well and want him to be there consistently. If he can do that I think he’s a champ in two months.

Not super relevant. His issues are centered around his cardio not around his weight. It's a challenge to have top notch cardio while going easy on your knees. It will keep getting better (and already is).

Lol.
Common denominators be damned — it’s always the other teams/coaches/fans that are the problem.

I’d settle for Cobe’s fearless brain. We all know Warner is capable. I was a little frustrated he wore himself out riding the entire 2nd period. Considering his lack of lungs, his energy might be better invested in more offense (solid when he commits). That said, I’m not sure his knee isn’t still bothering him. His conditioning must improve if he’s to win close/OT matches in March.

I was waiting for the whole "actually its Iowa's fault" angle for Manning being an insufferable douche. Surprised it took so long
Sorry — I was up late watching the NC State - VaTech dual I had DVR’d, then had to catch up on my reading this morning . . . otherwise I would have been on this sooner. 😉

The bigger issue was his inability to finish on his two deep shots in the first.

Lol.

Yes because only Iowa fans have this distain for the NE staff.

Agree on not finishing. It was there for the taking. He had his arm through & just needed to force NE to his hip. A wrestler with his experience should finish for the TD. I’m beating a dead horse but he needs more mental toughness. If the knee is holding him back, it’s understandable but no less frustrating.

If he can get his lungs squared away, stronger mental toughness & late season finishes will no doubt improve. He’s been great in March. Hope it continues in his final season.

And Dresser? And Gomez? Bastida? And on and on . . .

Put your fingers in your ears all you want, but the rest of the wrestling country sees a common demoninator to all these conflagrations, while other staffs and their teams seem to be able to avoid them without too much effort.

You're jumping big picture. I don't think we are particularly unaligned there. But Manning's douchebaggery is world renowned.

Exactly - Warner gets savagely criticized every year on this board then goes and brings home hardware.
