Neither Current #8 SMU, #10 Boise State nor #15 Arizona State (or #16 Iowa State) should be getting a 1st Round Bye in the CFP

Why would that be funny? Its good for the conference. And Why exactly would some school from Idaho that plays on Blue turf be "more likeable". Don't get the inference

I get your perspective and it’s not wrong as an Iowa fan. I’m coming from a different perspective and more macro level. There’s obviously no great team in the Big 12 but it is a bit better than it gets portrayed as on here IMO.

Also, I hated the blue turf tbh, until I went to a game there. I lived in Boise for a year and the people were great. Reminded me of Iowa a lot. Insanely beautiful state.

Boise State almost won at Oregon. I think Boise State has gotten worse and Oregon has gotten better though. Oregon would dominate if they played again, IMO.

It’s funny how every fan of 7-5 programs in the BIG/Sec want to see teams like Boise State get killed though. Boise State is far more likeable than teams like Oregon/OSU.

Boise State really is struggling to cross the finish line

Or, maybe they should just rank the top 12 teams, give the 4 best teams a 1st Round bye, and be done.

Here is the latest AP Top 25.

If you took the top 12 teams:
4 B1G teams
(Oregon, OSU, Penn St, Indiana)
3 SEC teams (Texas, Georgia, Tennessee)
3 ACC teams (Miami, SMU, Clemson)
0 Big 12 teams (Boise St & ND are the other 2 teams)

Here would be the matchups:

#12 Clemson at #5 Notre Dame
Winner plays #4 Penn State

#11 Boise State at #6 Georgia
Winner plays #3 Texas

#10 Indiana at #7 Tennessee
Winner plays #2 Ohio State

#9 SMU at #8 Miami
Winner plays #1 Oregon

Week 14 AP Top 25 poll

  25. Army

I was suggesting that approach only for the Big 12 championship game.

It’s too bad what happened to the conferences. Wazzu and Oregon State were building solid programs. Oregon State was legit last year and way better than most know or would give them credit for. Very fun atmosphere/stadium too, despite it being smaller.

Most thought the PAC 12 would survive realignment and that the Big 12 was on life support & would be the carcass that would get picked apart.

The PAC 12 commissioner did one shitty job, to put it mildly. And now we have teams traveling 3 time zones for games; this is going to really suck for the nonrevenue sports teams.

PAC12 basketball teams are going to burn out big time.

I completely disagree with it but I commend him for fighting for his conference.

How many times were the two best big ten teams in the BIG championship? Or SEC? Things like this have been happening for years and we’ve benefited as Iowa fans at times too, if we are objective haha.

I just think for a national tournament the 4 byes should go the the 4 most deserving

I agree but I also won’t feel bad for Ohio state or Oregon. Maybe do a way with a bye if we go to 16 too or have the BIG/SEC winners get byes if we are at 14.

I would love to know what the top 25 is for NIL. tOSU reportedly is at $20M; Oregon & Texas A&M can't be too far behind.

Oregon is has close to 35 million for next year. I’m not sure what they have this year, but Jabber Muhammad got nearly 1 million and he’s just one solid starter for them.

$35M to have the #1 team in the country.

I am surprised the Oregon men's basketball team is not doing better.

So, the question is... how far can ASU or ISU jump with 2 more wins. Can they move ahead of Boise St?

They should worry more about staying ahead of Tulane. Committee gave them a break in this poll by moving ASU ahead of Tulane.

Is this politics (in terms of getting ONE Big 12 team in the playoff)?

At the same time, is the committee pretty much saying what it thinks about the Big 12 when you look at what follows?

The 12 CFP teams broken down by Conference:
4 B1G (Oregon, OSU, PSU, Indiana)
3 SEC (Texas, Tenn, Georgia)
2 ACC (Miami, SMU)

2 Other (Notre Dame, Boise St)
1 Big 12 (Arizona State)

It’s going to be interesting to watch it play out. Whoever is “the winner” is likely going to have to go to Columbus for a first ever playoff game on their home turf.

It would be funny to see Tulane take that last playoff spot and leave the Big 12 sitting at home left out.

There's a reason they call the B1G and SEC the Power 2 and the ACC and Big 12 the Other 2.

Did you see this story?

Here's some interesting excerpts:

This week's Anger Index:

The Big 12

Imagine the following scenario: Boise State and Tulane both win out, earning conference championships.

The Big 12's champion
, however, is 3-loss Kansas State, 3-loss Colorado or even 2-loss Iowa State. All 3 of these Big 12 teams are currently ranked behind both Tulane (the presumed AAC champ) and Boise State (the presumed Mountain West champ), which could lead us to this eventuality:
Two Group of 5 champs get in, and the Big 12 is shut out completely.

This would be a genuine catastrophe for the Big 12 conference, but it's not a major leap to envision exactly that happening.

But would it be fair?

Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark certainly doesn't think so.

The problem is the committee seems incredibly concerned with the quality of losses, and in that respect, Boise State (one loss to Oregon) and Tulane (losses to Kansas State and Oklahoma) have far more explainable blemishes than Iowa State (losses to Kansas and Texas Tech), Colorado (losses to Nebraska, Kansas and Kansas State) or even Arizona State (losses to Cincinnati and Texas Tech).

12 teams results in 4 more televised games, which results in more $$$. How much more would be interesting.
Yeah and these long-ass TV timeouts make more money too. Doesn't mean it's good. Should have been 8 teams (assuming Pac 12 stays in the picture here because no one saw the conference imploding when the new playoff structure was completed) with 5 conference champions + 3 at large bids based on polls. Would have been perfect IMO.

No. 12 was too many. How we skipped from 4 to 12 instead of settling on the perfect number of 8 is beyond me. Got some stupid people running things.
Fortunately for you, you won't have to worry about the Huskers being involved in this stupid postseason event anytime soon.

So by this eight team playoff field, you put as much weight in winning the PAC12, which imploded of course, as you do as winning the SEC? That’s perfect in your opinion?

Let’s take this year. Three B1G teams in the top four, would mean as much as Arizona State winning the Big 12, finishing say around 13th or 14th? I’m understanding this logic correctly?

12 teams as it now means about 9% of the field makes the playoffs. Can you name any other level of football beyond HS where even less than 18% of the field makes their playoffs? JUCO and NAIA maybe. FCS, DII, DIII, and the NFL all have more than 9% of the teams making the playoff field. I doubt three out of the four of those is to make more TV money.

It was not that long ago when a team played just 12 total games (11 reg season + bowl game).

Now they could play 17 total games (12 reg season + conf championship + 4 playoff games).
