*****Official #185 RPI Illinois at #55 RPI IOWA Games Thread (All 3 games on BTN PLUS)*****

Guzek comes in and conveniently walks the first 2 batters. This has to be one of Hellers worst pitching staffs as far as control problems.

Iowa’s pitching staffs have had worse numbers since Brickman left. Gorzelanny was here for two years, and now Lund is the pitching coach. I know Lund is a big analytics guy, but his past is strength and conditioning. The jury is definitely still out for me as a pitching coach.

I know the game is gone but I’ll feel better if we see signs of life here at the end. Tomorrow is must win

It absolutely is. The way I see it, Iowa can only lose once more and have a chance at a regional. I’m not sure they can do that. On top of that, you have Maryland taking care of business, it’ll be a huge kick in the balls when/if they get a bid before Iowa. Today is the definition of laying an egg. The Illini pitchers are not this good.

Iowa falls 14-1, they struck out 16 times today. Pretty incredible actually. I don’t get how you lay an egg like this with so much on the line. I think tomorrow is a must win, and I’ve said I think at the most they can afford one more loss. My gut tells me they have to win out to make a regional, and I don’t think they can do that.

Side note, Nebraska-Northwestern Sunday game is cancelled due to Covid issues with NW. Northwestern had only 19 players available and six or seven pitchers. Why even come to play?

So, are you attending the game today?

Fun, fun game last night, under the lights!!! So much character and never say die on this team!!!

Mid-week, all the experts said we were solidly in the NCAA Tournament. But, as we knew then, we must do well over these final 9 games. Right now, we are 1-0 with 8 games to go =)

Lets do this!!!

GO HAWKS!!!

Ugh.
Blah.
That’s about all I have to say about yesterday.
One of the absolute worst baseball games that I’ve watched - in person or otherwise - in a very long time.
The inability to throw strikes by, ummm, everyone wearing a yellow hat with a black “I” was maddening.

So disappointing, so so disappointing. Iowa going to just miss a regional again if this trend keeps up. Meanwhile a Maryland team who is taking care of business and a team that I know is not better than Iowa looks to get a bid over Iowa.

While yesterday was certainly a kick in the nut cup, I am not forgetting that, in this race, the Hawkeyes are 22-15 AFTER a playing Indiana and Michigan. The Turtles are 23-14 before playing Indiana and Michigan.

As Kyle notes, it’s a real wildcard if Northwestern has to bail on next weekend.

But - that written - the hill to climb for more Ws is Much steeper for the Turtles.

Iowa took care of business against Maryland and I’m heading to Banks later this morning with confidence that Bauman is going to pitch well, the bats will rebound and Iowa will have achieved the same number of wins in a three game series against Illinois as did Maryland last weekend.

In Heller, I trust.

@KyleHuesmann how was the energy from Iowa today? I did not expect what happened. Saw a really good crowd of almost 1,200 was on hand.

No energy from the crowd. None. Not even before the abortion that was T3.

Tip of cap to Lavendar who was really good. Had Iowa’s batters shaking their heads as they walked back to the dugout all day.

Lavendar’s effectiveness played a huge role in making Banks Field a morgue - all day.

Davitt just didn’t have it today. Down 7-0 after three hurts. Took the air out of things early.

I still think three series wins gives them a good chance at the ncaa tournament, so I wouldn’t panic yet.

Did Maryland panic when they lost the first game of the series against Illinois last weekend? Nope. You get up, dust off the pants and get back at it.

to look at the bright side, you were wearing a nut cup!

@EvilMonkeyInTheCloset was not as lucky, as seen here.

@AuroraHawk @Franisdaman @KyleHuesmann

I’ve thought out a couple scenarios if Northwestern is not available. If Minnesota also can’t play then that means Purdue would be available next weekend or Iowa could see if Nebraska is available for a Wednesday midweek game in Lincoln as it gets Nebby their full slate and one more for Iowa.
I was curious about that as well. A game with Nebraska would be next week. Probably the 25th or 26th.

A Purdue series would likely be here. Have to see how it plays out.

I hope Minnesota & N'western are getting asked tough questions. All of their players & coaches should be fully vaccinated by now so how did covid become an issue with them when other conference members are sailing along smoothly?

That’s when you stand up and yell! You say, where’s the energy! Then yell, two bits! Four bits! Six bits! A dollar! All for Iowa stand up and holler!

No teams are or will. Hell look at Missouri for football. You get a bowl bid and send your players home for the holiday?! During the height of things and no vaccine! Are you kidding me? I’m still bitter about that because I think they had zero intention of playing.

If i understand everything correctly, if you are fully vaccinated AND test positive, there is so little covid present in that person that covid cannot be spread to others

so, if teams are 100% vaccinated, there should be no issues; everyone should be cleared to play, whether they test positive or not

or is the B1G still being WAY OVER CAUTIOUS, YET AGAIN?

You know as well as I do that the conference is still operating under the old way prevaccination.

next 2 batters single

wild pitch advances runners to 2nd & 3rd

next batter grounds out

0-0

Wow. Some of the things that come out of the PxP's mouth.

He said Iowa & Illinois were cross state rivals, which means, of course that the 2 schools are situated at opposite points in Iowa.

Yikes.
