*****Official Cubs 2019 thread*****

What is the Cubs BA w/ RISP this season? What is the Cubs record in one run games?

I think you'll see why the Cubs are where they are if you answer those questions.
Cubs BA with RISP .259 (15th place in MLB)
Cardinals BA with RISP .252 (24th place in MLB)
Milwaukee BA with RISP .236 (29th)

Solid south of I-44 spelling there.

That’s very true, sometimes. Not in all of these cases.

Phelps failed because he wasn’t up for the pressure situation.

Leaving 17 base runners indicates a lack of situational awareness in many of the cases.

I've been telling people in this thread all year that the Cubs are an 86-88 win true talent team, and they are playing to that.

The issue is that this roster is far inferior to 2015-2018.

I would argue that St. Louis isn't significantly better this year than 2016-2018. They have a bona fide ace and their bullpen/defense has been improved. The Cubs have gotten worse, and that's why STL should have a comfortable last week of the season. The NL Central is trash, and LAD, ATL, HOU, NYY, MIN, and OAK would have waltzed through the division. (STL or MKE could catch lightning in a bottle in October, but both have inferior rosters to the aforementioned teams).

The Cubs fans who think that they are not making the playoffs because of Joe Maddon, or mentally weak players will be in for a rude awakening when they go 81-81 next year under a different manager.

If a player is going 100% all the time and plays to his potential, I’m fine with the performance, whatever the outcome.

Physical errors happen to the best players, too. It’s the mental lapses or giving anything less than 100% leading to poor play that I have no time for.

I’m at the game today in a suite. Jason Mccloud is sitting maybe 5 feet from me. I want to yell it him but he’s sitting with his daughter and I’m not that big of a douche.

Good thing your not next to Jason McLeod. You would really want to give him an ear full.

You should let him know there is a new rule in MLB - pitchers are allowed to play in the big leagues for the same team that drafted them.

Incredible this guy is still employed and in a suite.

I didn't really care before now, or at least tried to be objective enough to not lay the blame on one thing or person... but enough is enough.

Thanks for helping the organization win a WS championship after almost 110 years, but there's the door Joe. Kindly exit post haste.

Kimbrel is stealing money.

As once being forced to accept Greg F'n Holland as a closer, you Cubs fans have my sympathies.

Yet I'll remind all you Cubs fans, there's still the bottom of the 9th to go here. Anybody can hit a ball out today.

Well the Cubs have Derek Holland warming up in the pen. That's about the same thing.

Along with 3 blown saves, Craig Kimbrel has an 6.53 ERA
The Cubs were too desperate for a closer and they got
the shaft.

This was mentioned elsewhere, but....

Fire Maddon, cut Kimbrel, then (if he enters FA) go get Chapman. And while we're talking about it, if Morrow isn't ready to go by time ST starts up at the end of the coming winter, then probly best to just cut bait there as well.

Two birds, more than one stone.

That game was exhausting, really was.

I'd say both clubs wouldn't mind at all if tomorrow indeed is a rainout. The forecast is pretty much solid rain all day long.

Today, the Chicago Tribune newspaper announced
that the Chicago Cub box scores will no longer be
carried on the sports pages. They will now appear
on the Obituary pages.
The old one I remember was the Cubs are moving to the Philippines and rename themselves the Manila Folders.

Of course, they also went through a period when Jerry Morales was their cleanup hitter, Steve Swisher was their all-star representative, and Jungle Joe Wallis roamed centerfield. Such jokes weren’t necessary.

Let’s just be done with the season, this is painful to watch. Joe will be gone, Ross will be in and then the braintrust has a lot of work to do, but I’m skeptical they’ll do anything of substance.

Should have put him on speaker for me.

Look, we all knew Kimbrel would be rusty after missing ST. He’ll be fine next season. Just gotta get him in a normal routine.

Maddon’s contract is up. They will let him and his two out of three ain’t bad mindset walk out the door. He spent more time on his restaurant and Binny’s ads this season versus working on fundamentals and situational hitting.
Kimbrel is owed way too much money to cut him. They will have to hope they can figure out something mechanical with him. His velocity is still decent.
