*****Official Cubs 2023 thread*****

Smyly is laboring out there tonight. He will be lucky to make it through the 4th inning.

Have you caught any of their games on Marquee? Seems like MB gets a lot of airtime. In my opinion they are the least talented of the teams below the AAA level. Solid pitching, but not the brightest of offensive talent. Hernandez at SS, and that plump little catcher seem to be it. A couple of one tool guys (Power), to fill out the roster.
Meh, talent is talent. It has to be developed at each level. The thing working against MB this year is they've already pushed a lot of good players up to SB and TN, and they haven't filled in as well with guys down in Arizona.
I'm still trying to figure out if this is some sort of complaint. Of course the higher levels of minors have more overall talent; that's why those players have advanced that far. Also, I wouldn't say it's a bad thing to only have 4-5 of your top prospects at the Low A level while having 16 in the AA and AAA ranks. Myrtle Beach has lost some of their best players to promotion yet was still able to win their first half division title. I guess I'm trying to figure out the beef.

Cubs have won 8 of their last 10 and have lost 2 games in the standings to the Reds. Can the Reds cool off? They went 3-0 in Houston this past weekend.

I checked the All Star voting tonight and they listed the top 10 vote getters for each position in each league. I was shocked to see that Nico Hoerner was not listed. WTF?

I think Swanson and Gomes were both 7th at their positions and Mancini was 5th at 1B and Morel was 5th or 6th at the DH. Some weird tabulations.

I like to quibble. And, I did say MB has had a lot of fast risers the last 2 seasons.
To me it's simply that you can see the most raw talent at the lower levels, and it's the job of the organization to refine and develop that talent. Over time a lot of guys never develop and they fall away, and the better players rise. Just saying raw talent, MB is a little low right now. My hope would be that some guys in Arizona would have pushed up as the guys who have left MB this season are replaced.

3.5 games back. Such a nice run. If the Reds weren't even hotter we'd be in 2nd place behind the scuffling Brewers.

Madrigal was a biscuit for breakfast away from a homer

It was great having Pat and JD call the game tonight. Boog isn't bad, but I'm not a fan and Pat is fantastic.

The Nico thing is absurd. Arraez 100% deserves to be starting, so no issues there, but Nico should absolutely not be outside the top 10. Dansby should be ahead of at least 6 guys hes’ behind.

Morel could be higher, but he got a late start and Gomes could be argued into the top 2-3. Mancini should not be that high.

Personally, I think Stro should start the ASG and Steele should get an invite.

@lucas80, don’t sell yourself short. You LOVE to quibble.

Just read on BN that Swanson is having his wrist X-rayed due to swelling. I guess he was HBP last night. Also, Codi Heuer left last night's Iowa game doubled over in pain after throwing his 4th pitch. It didn't look good.☹

Looks like the Cubs are going to London on a really hot streak. Hopefully this travel stunt doesn't disrupt their momentum going forward. They will have 3 days off but will be crossing what, 6 time zones? I don't like that idea, but I don't have a vote in the matter.

I think the Dansby x-ray is precautionary since he finished the game after getting hit on the inside of his right arm on/near the wrist yesterday. If there’s no significant damage, I would imagine he sits out today to get 3 days off before playing in London this weekend.

The Heuer injury looked awful. I’m hoping the actual damage is less than the pain he was clearly feeling, but that was rough to see.
