*****Official Cubs 2023 thread*****

Just got back to the hotel. It was amazing. Was in a hospitality suite right next to Rickets, Lee smith, Ryno, Bill Murray, ext….. Murray was the only one that watched the whole game. It was slightly funny their suite had Budweiser and Busch light. They must have brought with them; as it isn’t offered anywhere else in the stadium.

How were the fans over there? Brits crack me up with their accent and humor lol

Where are you seeing this?
I just scanned BN and BCB. Twitter?
Both had surgery. Hughes for his knee and Heuer for a fracture in his elbow. Plus, Brennan Davis had surgery on his core and is out minimum 6 weeks.

6 weeks means for the rest of the season for all practical purposes. :(

What was Davis' injury this year? I know he's had a terrible year.☹

He sure has fallen in the prospect rankings from his MVP performance in the Futures Game.

South Bend beat the Padres affiliate tonight. Nice win comeback win for them.
SS Kevin Made is an intriguing prospect, and had a solo homer. In the post game coverage it was weird that Luis Verdugo was the translator when they interviewed Made. I just assumed they'd have a team staffer, or one of the coaches act as a translator.

Something in his core…so some sort of abdominal injury. Worth noting that in spite of his injuries, he’s still young for AAA.

Everyone we talked to were pretty cool. They certainly enjoy their beverages. Was pretty easy to tell the Americans vs locals. Have some pics from the stadium I’ll throw on here once I have some time and figure out how to do it. Not sure why I’m surprised; but there are a ton of folks with Cubs and Cards gear on. Did see one guy with a Hawkeye hat on at the stadium last night; so had to throw out the “go Hawks” greeting.

We aren’t going to today’s game as we have some other plans; but may check out the cubs party in Trafalgar Square, as we will be in that general area.

dump base running
Mancini needs some days off to think about his sins.

Happ needs some remedial base running training. With his weenie arm he needs to learn to throw the ball to second instead of home.

It's hard to be very critical of right now Happ though.

I didn't watch all of the game, some I listened to on the radio. Am I the only person who thought the ESPN coverage was awful? I watched the middle three innings at the gym on the treadmill, and there were a lot of awkward silences, and a lot of tangential conversations. I don't know who this guy McKay is, but he didn't seem all that invested in the game. Paired with A-Rod, you had a lackluster combination.
Kurkjian was wasted in that grouping.

Also in fairness, if nobody is calling out the play, it looked like he threw a perfectly cuttable ball but Madrigal was inexplicably covering 3rd.

Michael Kay is normally the Yankees TV guy. He does some ESPN games as a backup.

I get it, the world is changing again, but, if Crane was really worried about my fan experience he'd figure out a way to keep Mancini from ever playing 1B again, or firing whoever thought Tucker Barnhart was the answer to any question.

are you sure we can’t release Taillon?
1. Going injury
2. They insisted he start throwing the vaunted sweeper pitch.

I'm not sure that what's wrong with him couldn't be corrected by dropping the sweeper, and just being healthier. His fastball seems unaffected.
@hawkifann probably has some numbers somewhere on this, but I have heard he's throwing his fastball less this year. He was successful in multiple stops before Chicago. Go back to what was working.
