*******Official Cubs 2025 Thread*******

Only way Jed can make this trade is if Ricketts has already told him he's fine with giving him 10 years and $300-$350 million, as otherwise it's a complete waste of prospects/talent as the Cubs aren't winning anything more than the division next year.

So like someone else said Jed will probably do it knowing we won't offer him anything close to enough to keep him...
I don’t think Jed gets this far in negotiations unless he’s been given the clearance to sign Tucker long-term.

If the trade is right, an extension isn't necessarily a requirement. The Astros need to unload him, so if it's a decent deal with an arm coming with him I'm okay with it. We aren't unloading a bunch of top tier prospect for one year of Tucker.
The one thing I appreciate this off season is the speed with which the deals are coming. Boras seems to have learned a lesson, or, perhaps he listened to his clients.

Yanks get Devin Williams per Passan for Nestor and Caleb Durbin. Second baseman Caleb Durbin is also headed to the Milwaukee Brewers along with Nestor Cortes in the Devin Williams deal, sources tell ESPN.

The Yankees getting the Brewer closer and giving up a starting pitcher likely just removed them from trading for Tucker because Astros wanted Gil.
So...Cubs fans should be happy that it not only lessened Houston's options, but also weakened the Brewers.

Jeff Passan said the Cubs have acquired Tucker...doesn't say what they gave up

For context the Cubs got Tucker for a high profile first round pick at the AA level, Christopher Morel, and Scott Effross.

Kyle Tucker is the face of the Cubs. Happ, Suzuki and Swanson can fall in line or they can just quit baseball.

For 2025 season...this trade was a steal for the Cubbies.

So who gets booted...Happ or Suzuki?

They almost have to trade Bellinger or even Seiya now. I have to believe something is already in the works, unless they think Busch can plan 3rd.

If they can’t sign Tucker tho, I personally hate this trade.

Viewing from the outside, Cubs didn't give up much to get Tucker.
And if the Cubs suck again next season, they can deal Tucker at the deadline as long as he agrees to a new contract for his new team.

Regarding Bellinger, if it’s just a salary dump, can't imagine they'd get much in return.

So apparently Shaw is our starting 3B with the kid they just got from the Tigers in the rule 5 draft as backup there and all over the infield.

Does Triantos make the team to play 2nd if Nico isn't ready to go opening day or gets traded? Canario probably 4th outfielder as I doubt they have Cassie or Alcantara sit on the bench in the bigs. The kids be coming over these next few years they just better sign Tucker and I'm in for it all!

Giving up last years first rounder seems a bit much for a rental. And I personally think Hayden has a chance to be a decent end of rotation or mid reliever

If they can resign him, like the deal though.

Yeah, but he is 27 and hadn’t figured things out at 2 stops. I love the upside, but the one thing the Cubs do finally have is some depth in arms pushing towards the MLB level.

We got a dude. If healthy he could easily hit 40 homers next season, and the injury this season was a leg injury, which he came back from to rake at the end of the season.

This was a great trade. Sure, I’d have loved to have done it without giving up Cam Smith, but Cam is a guy who is 6 months out of college ball and Kyle Tucker is a legitimate superstar.

I’ve been waiting for Jed to decide when to move. He went sell/build, then he’s kind of gone middle of the road/non-committal. Great to see him decide to go.

If I’m Jed, I let Tucker and his agency know I want to talk extension, but leave it in Kyle’s court for now. Let him become part of the team, go to Japan, feel the love of the fans in Wrigley. They have a full season to recruit him and make him feel great about being a Cub. He might take over the city this summer.

I’ll worry about the extension later, but for now, I’m really going to enjoy this.

JFC, what is going on with Chicago sports? Trading a stud you just drafted for a one year rental when you are nowhere near close to contending?

I love the deal if they extend him. If not, Jed’s ass should be fired.
I think they are close to contending. A decent bullpen last year and they were in

I have no idea. One year rentals only make sense when you need Chapman.

And I’d still give up Gleyber for Chapman today - that team was ready to win.

This one not so much.

He’ll probably resign with Houston.

Exactly! That team was one missing piece away and that is when you pay the heavy price. Every Cubs fan makes that deal.

This team is MANY pieces away from being a WS contender.
