******Official Iowa at Northwestern Game Thread******

Don't believe it's sloppy so much as a bye week hangover...

Tighten up the offensive side of the ball and this game winds up a laugher (assuming the defense continues to dominate)...

D is playing pretty good, Jackson is having a great game so far. Play calling is more than fine, execution needs cleaned up a bit, few drops etc...only saw maybe two calls that had me go WTF. If Stanley can relax we should be okay.

Iowa State stomping TT at TT. They are for real. 24-6 at half.
TT 12 yards passing.

Mostly agree but Iowa's run game has disappeared entirely and that is worrisome. We don't even get 3 yards a pop anymore.

Edit: I stand corrected. 17 rushes for 56 at halftime. But feels worse than that.

Dunno if I'd say that quite yet. They certainly so far are very "un-Iowa State like"...and you'd have to assume TTU is anything but TTU for I seem to recall ISU stomping the ever-livin' crap out of them last year.

Close 'em out, then...maybe.

Iowa punting stats are mindboggling in this game.
3 punts for 167 yards. Long 61, average 56
Punting will win us a game or two if we can do this all year.

Iowa averaged darn near 56 yards per punt that half.

I'm guessing it's pretty damn windy there today.

Honestly, I don't even attribute pur lack of scoring to a bye week hangover. We've moved the ball at times, but couldn't finish drives. That's more on just simple execution, or a lack thereof......which, suffice it to say, is unfortunately BAU for Iowa at times.

We've also potentially kept points off the board by going for it on 4th down when we could've settled for a field goal....granted the only try thus far was missed.

I say let's establish the run and let Wadley go off in the 2nd half, and the defense continue to play solid and not give up any big, confidence-boosting plays............please?

Good for them. If Iowa wins out and there are multiple 2 loss conference champions suddenly the picture becomes a lot murkier. Iowa State becomes a quality win.

To be clear, Iowa winning out is a very tall order.

This season has made me realize the importance of a good punter

Wow

Someone put together all the Josh Jackson punt returns and send them to SNL, copy to KF because you know he hasn't seen any of them.

Toren Young needs more carries. Wadley is not a bellcow and he's not nearly as explosive as he needs to be right now. Puts him at risk.

I don't understand why Jackson is returning punts when he has shown he is terrible at it vs Vandenburg who is solid.

I'll trade that crappy bunt return effort for him locking down the secondary like he has today. He continues the way he is and he could be better than Desmond King was by the end of his career.

Still, he really needs to work on punt returns.
