*****Official Michigan State at #8 IOWA Game Thread*****

Iowa was giving up even more open threes than usual. I wonder if forcing MSU to make them was part of the plan. You don’t really prep for a team like the Spartans starting 6/6 from 3
Agreed 100% I would have thought that would mean give them a little space and collapse not screw the close out give them 8 feet and the o board haha

Yeah the defensive rebounding was sorry for sure. Nunge has made a big difference in that regard, and Ulis/Perkins’ perimeter defense have limited the amount of threes and subsequent long rebounds available which has helped too

I'm beginning to think Iowa shouldn't play C Mac and J Bo at the same time.

I'm thinking Joe T, Ulis, and Perkins deserve a more of Connor's and JBo's minutes the rest of the year. I like Bohannon in at end of half and game for his historical big shots, but otherwise Ulis and Joe T much, much more from now on.

This is a balanced attack by the Hawkeyes.......

The starters have scored 24 points
The bench has scored 24 points

Garza has 15 points and Nunge 11

Man those Iowa bench guys sure are scrappy! Jack, Tony P, Joe T, Ulis all with awesome an 1st half & very necessary too.. wouldn’t be in the lead with them.

I would love to see some combo of Joe T, Ulis, or Perkins, when playing an athletic team, start and set the tone on defense early. Then bring JBo off the bench in a Brody Boyd role to provide a shooting spark off the bench. CMac needs Ulis minutes.

Our O is so ****ing spectacular. That D is just such an Achilles heel though.

That's the problem, and why it will take 'luck of the draw' for Iowa to reach the F4. The offense is as Elite as you'll find in CBB, but the defense is (usually) worse than average.

Unfortunately, that equals offensively struggling teams looking like they aren't anymore (or at least for that game vs the Hawks).

@Moral, your prescription?

Winning should never be frustrating but this defense just gives no long term hope. I was told we’d never see an Iowa team not be ready.. boys weren’t ready tonight.. disappointing! Glad we have another half to prove it..
Uh what's the score?

Nice strong half. Normally the officials would have buried Iowa by now. Sparty got by with quite a bit but nothing like the usual foul free halves.

But there is an entire half of officiating to keep Sparty in it.

Fran threw everything at the wall in this half. Pieced together some interesting lineups, just looking for a spark. In the end, Luka Garza is the only consistent Hawk night in and out.

Hawks gonna be loaded with guards next year

I do wish his dad would STFU! I’ve got a headache from listening to his complaining about the officiating.

Good post feeds, good assist to turnover ratio. I would like for Keegan to come in sooner as a 6th man though.

I still call bs on this. Teams are completely sagging, he’s been turning it over more lately, and his 3 pt shots are a turnover 80 percent of the time.
He has a role but Fran asks to much/ too many minutes of him.

I’m guessing MSU won’t be called for 15 fouls in the second half.
We'll reach the bonus with about 7:20 to play, and never reach the double bonus. MSU will somehow go the final 5 1/2 minutes committing only a single foul.
No Spartans will foul out.

When teams sag off he needs to drive instead of settling for a three if they aren’t falling. I also don’t like that when he gets them wide open, he’ll take a dribble or hesitate for a second before shooting. If you’re gonna shoot, catch and shoot!
