Olympic wrestling results

Not defending the premise (neither Lee nor Kueter are bad teammates in my view) but how would Steveson's decision be any different than a college football or basketball player leaving early to go pro?
It’s a stupid argument. For one go find where I said Spencer was a bad teammate. You won’t. He is as dedicated to his team as humanly possible. He’s single handedly put the storied Iowa program on his back and carried back to the top with two torn ACLs.

Also, the correct comparison for the Kueter situation would be if Gable decided to go do Wrestlemania instead of the Big 10 tournament when he wrestled all season long. Would y’all be ok with that?

Again, the season is over. He is not currently a part of the team. Once the season is over, you’re certainly not required to come back. What a weird argument you’re making about someone who left during the post-season and trying to compare it to someone who competes the entire year?
Just pointing out how you constantly seem to move goalposts to fit your narratives…. And it’s really not all that different. Everything isn’t about $. A huge problem with society today.

Anyway.. Carry on. Gonna be at Hinterland?

I'm sorry to those with intelligence and read this.

But for those who read this and are "lacking upstairs" and perhaps some basic values... your posts come across as idiotic and reflect poorly on you. I hope you develop a sense of balance and clear perspective of the world.

Good luck to those who unfortunately represent the acronym: I.O.W.A.

See Gobblins post on the next page. Basically just pointing out the hypocrisy and changing goalposts done by crabby. In your example of going pro in football or basketball or baseball for that matter (which in the original argument over Kueter was my point) there is no difference to Gables situation. And my point is none of these things make anyone a bad teammate. People that do these things may be bad teammates but it’s not because they chose to go pro or go to Fargo or go to Senior Nationals.

It’s not changing goalposts. If you can’t see the difference between being on a team all season and bailing during the post season, and finishing a season and then choosing not to come back for another one, I don’t know what to say.

Not going to Hinterland because of kids, but looks like a great lineup. You going? I’d be interested to see Zach Bryan. When the Deann album came out it was on constant repeat at my house.

With the new rules in the NCAA and people being able to make money off their name, couldn’t he wrestle in college and WWE at the same time? I know this isn’t likely and won’t happen, but it’s possible, right? It would be bad ass to have him wrestle on a pay per view some night while still in college. Every heavy in the country is hoping he’s done with college wrestling.

Hell, who knows? But maybe. The rules have obviously changed, to this degree for his type of options I don't know. I have no idea if he values a College degree or where he stands academically, but he's already won an NCAA Title and the Olympics. Edit: I don't know if eligibility wise he could go for 4 NCAA Titles, maybe with an extra COVID year he could? He's clearly a showman. If he can't legally do both the WWE and wrestle for the Gophs, I'd be surprised if he came back.

Hell of a run for Steveson, he's clearly got some unbelievable talent for a HWT.

Famous coaches and wrestlers are lauding the Gopher coaching staff for Gable's progress. Where's MitchLL to set them straight? Prolly out rounding up Iowa fan votes to give Petriashvili a share of the gold medal.

Would you mind sharing a few examples?

Notice Minne isn't going to be part of the national duals...want me to send you a tshirt? Seriously though...thought it was cool how Eggum and staff took this gritty, unknown upstart in GS and turned him into an Olympic champ. Skol! (or whatever it is you wannabe Canadians tell each other) 😁

John Smith is to wrestling what Steve Stone is to baseball…. Brilliant minds that know their sports so well they predict things before they even happen and have magnetic personalities to go with it. I’ve enjoyed listening to his commentary as much as anything the last few days.
John Smith has been one of my favorite wrestling personalities ever since I went to a clinic of his about 30 years ago. As a side note - he has never taken me down.

I guess I don't see why he can't do both.
Hypothetically, yes Stevenson could do both NCAA wrestling and WWW. However as a practical matter, me thinks not. The current NCAA rules have adequate loopholes such that Stevenson could do both activities without putting at risk either of these activities.

Still the demands on a professional athlete are such that both efforts would surely be compromised. Bo Jackson he aren’t. Gable Stevenson will get the money while the ‘gettin’ is good. Strike while the iron is hot.

A thought. Gable Stevenson’s farewell wrestling recital was not an explanation point on a great wrestling career. The average television viewer, the wrestling greenhorn, and specifically the product marketer was probably pretty nonplused. His exit performance was not a Ted Williams career ending home run, to say the least.

And enough of the back flips! Even the Splendid-Splinter did not tip his hat to the Fenway Faithful.

Uh-huh. That's what they do on Television. Everybody is great when the guy or gal is winning, from the pee-wee Coach to the neighbor kid who rolled around in the grass when they were 4 years old, all part of "The Journey". Smith nor Burroughs threw Koll under the bus when Dake got curb stomped. That's how it works if you want to keep getting paid to talk on TV.

For the same reason when they were discussing 4 Timers (Dake), you didn't hear John Smith say how Jordan Oliver got screwed allowing Steiber to win 4. That doesn't play well. But privately he knows he did, as does anybody that witnessed it.

Sold our tix…. Followed Arlo McKinley around for a couple nights last week instead. We won’t regret it.

Jordan Burroughs talking to John Smith during the 65 kg bout between Cuba and Kazakhstan where the Cuban wrestler completely gases and gives up when he was close to a tech fall:

Burroughs: I tell you what John, if you were my coach and I had this type of performance I wouldn't want to see you in the locker room after. (laugh) I can tell you that.

Smith: (chuckle) No you wouldn't... I might lose my job.
