*** Omnibus NCAA Tournament games thread ***

Doesn't help when it seems as though the refs swallowed their whistles when it comes to Baylor down the stretch. I guess that comes under the heading of letting them play. I hate rooting for UNC, but...

UNC clanking FT's remind me of our final game with Illinois. This game should have easily been in hand.

I think I have seen more people foul out in this game than I have seen the whole season combined watching Iowa.

I hate this kind of ball. It just reminds me that our ( even when were playing well ) brand of ball will never beat this NC / Baylor brand of shitball, grab, hold, push, foul, foul again till the ref have to call something. This isn't basketball, **** this crap. Everyone gonna have CRT from this kind of game...

Exactly. As a ref, you call what you can, knowing if you call everything, neither team would have any players left.

Bye, bye Bears!!!

The East Region is a Mess!!!!

#1 Baylor? OUT!!!

#2 Kentucky? OUT!!!!

The fans of #4 UCLA and #3 Purdue have to be licking their chops as their chances for the Final 4 have increased dramatically.

Purdue has not been to a Final 4 since 1980.

Regardless of what you think of unc, I'd have the Hawks switch places with them with no hesitation. A humdrum regular season then turn it on in the tourney and knock off a 1 seed to get to the sweet 16 beats a conference tournament championship every day of the week.

Michigan State and Rutgers play this way as well.

Teams now have a philosophy that the refs can't/won't call a foul every time.

Yes, the Izzo way. Get the fouls out of the way in the 1st half, knowing the refs won't want to foul a player out and will swallow their whistles. Mayer for Baylor was averaging a foul every 6 minutes of play, but managed to go the last 16 minutes of regulation without another foul, and never backed off with his aggressive play.

You wonder how Iowa averaged 100 points a game in 1970? They called fouls. You had to keep your hands off. Now its the degree of physicality that has to be discerned by the referees. It's not their fault. NCAA has determined that grab ball is preferable to freedom of movement. One on one play vs. movement and passing cuts. I hate this new game...

remember when there was supposed to be freedom of movement?

I posted on the main board a live look at teams practicing this new style of defense that we're seeing in CBB:

I'm with you, fran. Normally I watch everything I can from start to finish, but the Richmond game killed something inside of me and I have turned into a casual viewer.

i didn't even know that Baylor/UNC was an East Region game until I looked at the bracket. Then I realized Kentucky was in the East, too. Normally, I would know stuff like that.

Iowa fans: want Iowa to have home court advantage in the NCAA tournament. Fran better coach his ass off, because to the winners get the spoils.
Win the damn conference instead of finishing in the middle of the pack.
The more wins you accrue the better seed you get. Pretty simple.
Up until now, Fran has had no clue how to coach in the NCAA tournament and it shows.

It's pretty simple the reason why. I'm watching the in-between games coverage on CBS right now. They haven't brought up how the game just completed was called. Instead, they're talking about how great of a game it was. In other words, that style of play is being promoted. So, the game is going to continue to be played that way.

The other issue is how defensive all supporting parties get when others make a stink about the way the game is played today.

So not only is it being promoted and defended, but it's also against reprieve because we don't want to be truly open to opinions and criticism..........

How many Big Ten teams make the sweet 16?...any guesses
I'd say 3, maybe.

Purdue and Illinois have the best chances, although I am beginning to understand why Illinois struggles so much with Curbelo playing more than 20 minutes.

He's basically their Joe Toussaint but with a little more scoring ability.

They literally just won their 2nd game this year when Curbelo plays more than 20 minutes, since his return earlier this year.......and they had to survive Chattanooga.

Edit- Forgot Wisconsin. They should win, considering it's a home game.

But a lot of it depends on which ISU team shows up. Wisconsin will continue to go with its play-with-fire strategy, but if Iowa State brings its best defense and can keep pace scoring with Wisconsin, then it's gonna be a close game.

If ISU plays like they did against TCU, then they'll lose a 62-46 type game...............

I'm gonna bandwagon on the Aggies of NM St. Las Cruces is pretty this time of year. The Oregon Mts outside of town are spectacular.

No, and either do the refs!

I hate this tournament schedule, giving fans one game at a time Saturday afternoon and then grouping a bunch of them in the evening. There ought to be a number of games on that I can ignore!
