Prohm OUT At Iowa State

All honesty and rivalry aside, pretty good coach and pretty good guy by all accounts. Didn’t feel like his guys played all that hard for him at times this year. He’ll be fine and have a mid major in the tournament soon I imagine.

I like Prohm personally. Didn't seem he was cut out for the big time levels though.

Wonder who's on their short list. Otz and Hoiberg I'm sure. If I were them, I'd go after Craig Smith from Utah State.

My personal opinion..and you didnt change it....1st degree Murder is inexcusable.....losing basketball games is not.
I would never fire a coach based on this past season....everyone gets a free pass.

Zero comparison between the two, and yes losing can be inexcusable. 2-22 is not free pass worthy. You go 7-15 with some hard fought Ls against Baylor and we can give a pass.

We wont consider the fact that ISU's biggest asset (Hilton) was basically nullified this season with reduced attendance.....and again, you're much more aggressive and demanding of your people than I.....that is probably why you are highly successful and I am just flunking along cashing checks. If I were an AD, I would give my coaches in BB and FB a pass...with a definite understanding for the next season...and you would fire your guy.

Why do you stick up for everybody else and then bad mouth the Hawks? You need to join another teams board.

Have to admit, even with that trainwreck of a season I didn't think they'd cut him loose. How's that choice looking now, X?

Hard to think they'll chase Freddie, they'd have to write a pretty big check to cover Prohm's buyout, Fred's out payment and his new contract. Not to mention the optics of Hoiberg leaving Debbie after only 2 seasons.

Smith will be on a lot of lists as major college jobs become vacant.

I wonder if ISU goes on a full court press for Hoiberg.

terrible excuse. Everyone knows they didn’t have the talent because of the guys who’ve left early. And I didn’t watch (why would you?) but 0-19 suggests a lack of effort. The development of many of their players has been poor. Now, with all the attention football rightfully gets, there isn’t going to be anyone breaking down the doors to get back in for basketball season tickets in the fall. An ultimatum for next year doesn’t need to be stated, it’s not like he wasn’t trying to win now. But I think he’s lost the team.

Similar to Lick, if there has to be “a case to be made to give him one more year”, he probably shouldn’t get one. Hell, if they go 9-22 next year then “things are going in the right direction”, so I think now is as good a time as any to tear down and rebuild.

Prohm at ISU, 97-95 and 14-42 the past 2 seasons....
Hoiberg at Nebby, 14-45....Fred was 115-46 in his time at Ames....

Why wouldn't Iowa State contact Fred and ask him if he is happy?......Do you think Nebraska is in love with Hoiberg to date? Nebby's Athletic Department is a dumpster fire and I bet football is a higher priority right now than basketball....Hoiberg's buy-out is doable and negotiable.
(If this is not indeed a "done" deal already....)

If I were in a position to hire and fire a coach right now...I would pass right now. I think this year has been just too bizarre not to give a guy I chose in the first place another chance. But that is me.....and I am retired and honestly, dont give a shit one way ot the other.

It was time. Pollard + ISU could not afford another bad season. Prohm seems like a good guy, but the bottom line is winning basketball games. We can debate all day long about how good of a coach he is, but winning two tourney titles is a noteworthy accomplishment. Some very good Big 12 coaches have never won a tourney title.

It will be interesting to see who they hire. A home run hire is needed right now to re-energize the fan base. ISU is still a really good job. I hope they can get a young P5 assistant. No idea who that may be. I hope Hoiberg doesn't return though. Highly unlikely.

Prohm represented ISU well. I wish him well.

Fred invented the transfer portal, that advantage is now gone, unless ISU further lowers admission standards. Which is possible.

Freddie is too much coin right now, esp when combined with the Prohm buyout.

Word is they're going to hire TJ Otzenberger from UNLV. 4 years from now, Freddie will be more affordable if he doesn't work out.

BUT...once again, there's no guarantee that Hoiberg would suddenly win just because he's back in Ames. His little magic act with all the transfers won't be easy to recreate. Clones are making some big assumptions about that.

Hoiberg is the one guy ISU could hire and the fans would be patient with....he is still "the Mayor" there.....and ISU might have a low couple of years before they get BB turned around....I think there has been serious chatter between the two...I think it started a month ago......but we shall see. The rumors will fly starting this weekend......
