What do the rest of you think about this class and last years class? Last years class has Stoll, Gross, Ryan and Paddock as its stars. I think Stoll and Paddock will do good not great things in their careers. Don't know if Gross or Ryan will even be on the team. Bowman is a kid that could start eventually and has potential.
In this years class I see Kemerer as a stud obviously and I think Turk will be a stud before it is all over. Wilcke will be a starter and I think he has potential. I know most on here don't like this term but in my opinion the rest of these guys are room guys. I know we get Marinelli next year and he will be a stud and a lot of us are high on Young but we need at least 2 more stars next year to stay in the hunt.
Obviously if we land Hall I will be happy as we have 2 great lightweights coming in 2 years and that will also give us a boost with other kids.

Stoll and Kemerer are the only two guys in the past two classes ranked as immediate impact guys in the 10-15 range overall. I think Gross, Ryan, Turk, Bowman, Paddock, Wilke and a few of the "room guys" have the skills and potential to contribute. That said how much contribution that ends up being and how soon are the key points. We could get a few to step in like Sorensen or Burak or we could get little to none. Sure there will always be the lower ranked guy who hits his stride and jumps to the top level but counting on that to happen is more of a crap shoot and not a great recipe for winning national titles vs teams with multiple top 10 overall athletes in the lineup. I love finding a hidden gem but we need to find them at a much higher rate than we have been or start signing top level guys if we want to win a title. Low AA to rd of 12 finishes don't bring home the bacon when they have to offset single guys scoring 25 points by themselves. IMO classes like the last two are not going to cut it in the long run, hoping a guy makes a big splash is not as good as pretty much knowing he will. I really do hope some of those guys blow up and become stars, that would be awesome. We need more impact guys though, Marinelli, Renteria and Mejia meet that IMO. We are in the hunt for some other impact guys as well, it would be nice to get them. One thing I want to see in recruits whether they be ranked #5, #50 or not at all is for them to have the physical skills and athletic ability to compete with most anyone, I think we are improving with this. Attitude and mental toughness are huge but we have all seen that no matter how mentally tough a guy is if the skill set is too low it just does not work. I think you can take a guy with skills and form the mental edge easier than the other way around. So out with the plodders, low scoring guys or guys who won on limited moves or moves that don't translate well to college. In with guys who put up a lot of points, who have quick feet, don't give up their legs easy and can score from many positions, especially neutral. Guys who can make the top 4 are where it is at, especially top 2.

Not sure we need another thread on recruiting since we have about 5 on the front page already and they pretty much all are re-hashing the same stuff.

Agree with you. Paddock and Stoll are already being judged on how their wrestling career will end.

This is a message board. The only way it is interesting is if posters give their opinions on subjects. They could be right, wrong, or somewhere in between.

If you can't give an opinion on how you think Paddock and Stoll are going to do, why come on here? Just read their results when they happen.

But better yet, if you disagree with weh8st8's opinion, post yours on why you think this guys are going to be multiple AAs and wins some NCs. That would be a lot more interesting.

You may find reading the same stuff over and over again as interesting as the first time however I do not. Plus, simply saying 'Stoll and Paddock are only going to do alright' really isn't all that interesting the first time or the fifteenth time. Now if a little analysis was offered or something new was brought to the table then it might be more interesting however it seems to me like this is just another post complaining about Iowa's recruiting efforts over the last few years while offering little to no original analysis or insight and could have just been lumped with the other 5+ recruiting threads.

Of course, I have been a Rivals member since 2002 and have less than 1000 posts so I am clearly not someone who posts just for the sake of posting.

I am assuming a lot of money was tied up in the class that will be graduating this year, so hopefully there will be more for the guys we need in the future, I do think this years and last years seem alittle light on top end talent. I had hopes for gross. sure have numbers coming in next year if one of the guys turns into something better than expected I will be happy. I am thinking Erickson could be that guy, just a feeling ive got from talking to people who know him.

Agree on Erickson.

I would be willing to wager a pretty penny that at least one of those "room guys" in this years class will surprise a lot of people and become a major contributor during his time as a Hawkeye. I think it was a good approach from TnT this year for recruiting. There is a good chance that they saved some money for next years class yet got a bunch of hard nosed guys who will work hard and earn their keep.

I certainly hope that's the case, because it's been more like too many of our "top end" guys turn into "room guys" and end up starting anyway. That is the trend that has to come to a halt.

Hey, I enjoyed every post on here except yours.

Bragging or complaining?

Holloway will help at 197. Now just go get Hall and Lee and we are getting close to where we need to be.

As much as I like Lee I think we have a better shot at Suriano. I would love to have any of the three.

FLO put out on twitter that they have a big recruit announcement tomorrow. Any guesses? Since IA Wrestle hasn't said anything, it must not be for Iowa?

I'll take a stab. I'll vote in the following order: (1) Isaiah White; (2) Luke Pletcher: (3) Nick Suriano;
(4) Mark Hall; (5) Spencer Lee

It's Cade Olivas. He is of course going to Arizona State. Not a huge shock to me, but good for him!!

Yep Cade is going to Arizona State. No surprise in his choice of schools, but man he's only a freshman declaring now.

dice isn't usually a db. Either db post or emoticonologically challenged. Not very funny on the Iowa board though.

Diceman's comment seems like a friendly little jab, hardly DB material, especially considering it comes on an internet message board. Hell, we've been taking sh*t for years, as Iowa wrestling fans we should have a much thicker skin by now.

As for ASU, he's right, I think it's great for wrestling.

Thanks, Jack. Akaoni is correct - just a friendly jab. What I was hoping for was a response like this:

Yes, good for wrestling to add ASU to the mix with Edinboro and tOSU.

FIFY

I'm halfway inclined to think that pumpdog set that up on a tee for someone like me to knock it out of the park. If so, much kudos.

BTW, in honor of my becoming an "MVP" on the HR board, I changed my avatar. And, yes, I am emoticonly challenged.

Nobody is giving OSU any respect, come March we will be in the running. Talking about great recruiting classes the last 2 years, OSU is right there. Top 4 in the running for team title is= OSU, PSU, tOSU, IOWA. Also Dicemen, if I'm a MVP it sure shows they are giving out that title freely to anybody!;)

I guess I'll have to remember to praise all of our opponents on a thread about Iowa recruiting, on an Iowa Wrestling Board.

Wasn't directed at you Sloe, just thought I'd pipe in (I was getting my feeling hurt).
understood, just thought I'd give you some crap, and glad you got the no respect card taken care of before the tears started to flow! ;)

Tognetti, OSU was stocked with blue ship recruits this year and finished 7th. Who is coming out of redshirt that is going to have an immediate impact to make them better? Marsteller was mediocre at 157; he is much better suited for 165. C. Rodgers and Blees aren't going to make the lineup. The one thing they having going for them is that almost their entire team is coming back but I'm not seeing nearly enough fire power to compete for a title.

Flying_Tiger see it was nice of you to go and post the false rumor about Stoll on the Minnesota Guillitone wrestling site maybe should check out stories before going and posting stuff on opponents message boards.
