Recruiting

"Well we're waiting???" Did blaze make HIS announcement, or did FLO F it up for him?

Problem with signing Ross is we have big Ben!!! Not sure How you would navigate that? Ben is a redshirt Freshman, he would have 3 years remaining. Unless you start playing the F*** st games with gray shirt, injury year, walk year etc.....
Ross would have to burn one year at the most, and could greyshirt or go to Olympic training center for a year if he wanted to preserve that year. If football goes well, Ben may have stopped wrestling by then anyway. If Ross does football also, he won’t be too upset to lose one year of wrestling, he can just put more work into football that year, like Ben is doing this year in reverse.

Who thought Minny will be in race for team title? Nobody. We’re hoping GS can help slow PSU down but nobody expects Minny to win it all.
Right, but if Gable goes straight to the top as we all expect, that pushes everyone else except Minny down a peg as well along with PSU. Only Minny really gains.

I doubt Ross is going to have any interest in grey shirting if he's playing football, too. Maybe if he decides on wrestling only, but like you said, there are a lot of moving parts with both guys possibly being dual sport.

I find it hard to believe Ross won’t at least try football, considering the money involved. I think they both know they are more elite in wrestling, but football is where the money is at. Just making the roster of an NFL team provides a nice living.

Others have left school early and joined the room their Senior year of highschool which is basically the same thing.
I get your point, and it is similar in terms of training, but this was brought up in the context of extending eligibility to avoid overlap with an existing hammer at the same weight. In that respect, it is not the same at all since the HS kids training at NLWC instead of competing in HS are not eligible to enroll or compete attached yet.

The last two kids to do that, though, have been Kasak and Haines, and both were off-the-shelf high AAs in their true freshman years after a year at NLWC. Zach Ryder did it last year but is redshirting this year (being unlikely to beat out Haines or Starocci for a starting spot), but if there is an injury to either of those guys, he would be one of the guys to consider stepping in.

How old is Nelson Brands?
Not sure look it up but what is your point?

My was, kids have TWOOOOO many years to compete. Need to start eliminating ALL the loopholes. Military service, a religious mission, maybe some others? But a "medical" after you already redshirted, or a skip year, walk year, great Krailure year etc.... is just getting ridiculous.
Yes, everyone should optimize their chance to be the best team they can be today and in the ensuing years. No F*N St fans panties are in a bunch over Gable. It makes no difference in the team race and even adds a little spice to NCAAs. Kerk will need to rise to the occasion or he will likely finish second. BK will also likely need to go thru Kerk and/or Gable and/or Hendrickson on his way to the podium.
YES, everyone needs to optimize their chances, problem is, most don't have the slush $$$$
YES, their panties are in a WAD!!!
YES, it COULD make a difference, I guess we need to wait and see?
YES, KerKin would need to rise but NO it aint happening!
YES, BK needs to beat some people, problem is he did not put on the muscle. Guess we send him to Happy Land to get the special stuff?
I, for one, as a PSU fan, love it. Gable returning makes the heavyweight class all that much better and more entertaining. I can't wait to see the heavies at nationals. Could it cost Kerk a title? Yes, very likely, but it will also give him one last shot to best his nemesis, too, and it's definitely not going to cost PSU a national team title to Minny. LOL.
I would like to believe you, so I will give you the benifit of the doubt and say you aint like most of your sad fan base!
Gable, Kerk, Yonger, Hendrickson, Schultz, Kueter, and Feldman are all champion or at least high AA level guys. Even the "second tier" with Trumble, Luffman, Snacks, Slavakouski, etc. are really good and entertaining. Heavyweight is absolutely stacked this year.

Ross is not a bad fit anywhere. On his feet, he reminds me of Ed Ruth. Makes it look effortless.

I only wish he was going to be a 197, dang that would be legit. As is is going to take some creativity to make it work and you have to wonder how much that excites him?

2024/25 BK rsfr Ross Jr HS
2025/26 BK Soph Ross SR HS
2026/27 BK Jr Ross True Fr(Redshirt)
2027/28 BK Sr Ross Olympic(Redshirt)
2028/2029 BK(Graduated) Ross RS Freshman with 4 years left
Or grey shirt Ross in 26/27 season

Forgot that is an Olympic year. Would work well
if he is playing football though, will he earn any Oly Redshirt, and will it matter? if he sits two years, by year three he may be established in football enough to not come back to the wrestling team - going to need to establish depth behind him just in case

uh, I mean bad fit because of BK but as seen bellow, if that is correct( i thought Ross was a SR. so that is a HUGE difference!) The HOT DAMN!!!!

YES, this would be very nice!!! Have flo sign him up!!!

I understand Henckel probably dreamed of wrestling for PSU, and views it as his opportunity to be the best wrestler he could be. But, barring multiple injuries, he's just never going to start for them. Is it worth being the best wrestler you could be if you never get to show it in March?
Most kids want to be an NCAA champ. Some are willing to sacrifice years of eligibility if they feel that the place they're going will make them the best they can be. The numbers show 3-4 guys win a title every year . So many are willing to roll the dice rather than starting for 4 years at another university

Joe Sealy may also get lost in the mix of top middleweights they have. I know we didn’t make his top 5, but we would have been perfect fit. We will need a 157 next year, and a 165 after the following year. Would be easy now for him to change his mind, but all those guys I’m sure are super confident they will be the guy. We will see who emerges there after their redshirt years.

I trust you know more than I, but I have a hard time believing that a high percentage are willing to "sacrifice years" with that hope. Sure some, and undoubtedly some high quality ones that PSU snags, but I bet a much higher percent feel otherwise and just want to be the guy and wrestle. For most, wrestling is a very short career.

I shouldn't have used the word most . I was referring to the top recruits

I’m sure he plans on winning a starting spot but in this day and age it’s so easy to transfer that there isn’t a ton of risk to go to a place like psu (and iowa/ohio state) and shoot their shot. if he redshirts and then during that year he figures out in the room that he is going to be behind guys like kasak and sealey then he can find a new home.

I don't have any inside information, but I doubt Sealey is ever going to be 157. If he could make that weight, I think he'd challenge for it this year, but all I've heard so far is that he is redshirting this year. This year, PSU's 157s are Kasak moving up (from 141, which he made at the start of last year before SVN's injury) or a sucked down Facundo. While that's not exactly a gimme, it's certainly less daunting than challenging Mesenbrink or Haines, both of whom still have multiple years. If he can make 157 and takes a RS anyway and challenges for 157 next year, the same 2 guys are back (if the loser of the battle doesn't portal), plus PJ Duke will be in the mix as well. Again, that's just me reading tea leaves, not any inside information.

I think he's looking at going to that room and training for a year as a RS then giving it the old college try for a starting spot for a year or two, and if it's looking hopeless, then portal. These elite kids always have the utmost confidence in their ability and want to challenge themselves. I'm sure he believes that if he has to beat out Mesenbrink or Haines or Sealey or Ryder for a spot, then that's what he'll do. I don't think I share that opinion, but we'll see. The worst thing that could happen is that he spends 3 years in PSU's room then transfers to somewhere else to try to challenge them again at nationals. If you look at how much a guy like Barraclough improved in their room, there are a lot worse fates.

IB… I thought you were better than a superfecta of excuses and untrue statements
Please explain your TWIST on what I said nand exactly how any thing is an "excuse and/or untrue"???? I will wait and you won"t because you can't!!!
Oh really? Care to explain what caused you to draw such a conclusion?
Maybe you had me confused with this liberTARD fool?
184 for Oklahoma st would be my guess.
197 for IOWA!!!

Sure, just look at the ones that say EXCUSE and remember this definition from the dictionary: excuse: a reason or explanation put forward to defend or justify a fault.

Give me an example where someone's panties are in a bunch.

“Arguing with a fool proves there are two”
Can't believe I got suckered into debating with a fool. Sorry to the board.

Just for the sake of accuracy, dropping from 1st to 2nd is by far the biggest scoring drop in placement points. Basically, no one gets hurt more than Kerk, by Gable coming back.....

With that said, it will take a hell of a lot more than Kerk taking 2nd instead of 1st for any team to truly challenge PSU...

Yeah, for sure, Kerk personally is the one that is hurt the most by this, but who knows, he may prefer to get a shot to beat Gable, which is something I don't think he's ever done dating back to before their college career.
