It’s embarrassing. Just no better way to describe it.Another one bites the dust... The Iowa QB recruiting legacy from 2017 to 2024 is truly remarkable. Guess this one didn't want to be a wide receiver.
I am sure he wants to be a QB. He wants to play now rather than later if possible.Wow, that was quick.
I for one will be surprised if Marco sticks around, I certainly hope that he does though. I am wondering a bit if Sully will stick around should Iowa go out and land a transfer QB.I am sure he wants to be a QB. He wants to play now rather than later if possible.
This is ok and good luck to him. We still have Sully, Shaggy, and Marco and Sully and Shaggy have won a couple of games each this year. I feel better about our QBs going into next year than I did with Cade's knees and no expericence behind Cade at the start of this year.
What could go wrong having an OL head coach and an OL offensive coordinator and an OL quarterback coach? It’s embarrassing. Just no better way to describe it.
I really wish players could be more patient. Lainez is a RS Freshman. Few RS Freshman are starting around the country.I for one will be surprised if Marco sticks around, I certainly hope that he does though. I am wondering a bit if Sully will stick around should Iowa go out and land a transfer QB.
Being fast and hoping they can pass the ball as a QB is not what I want out of a QB.And I think we have one or two QB recruits coming in who are supposed to be fast which is a concrete measurable and I hope they can pass the ball well.
And we will grab a pretty good QB from the Portal. I doubt Miller Moss goes to Mich since the wolves paid $20 million for a recruit
Even in this day and age of the transfer portal, to have every single HS QB recruit since Petras '18 end up transferring, with only 2 having any kind of impact on the program, is something most programs couldn't accomplish even if they tried.Another one bites the dust... The Iowa QB recruiting legacy from 2017 to 2024 is truly remarkable. Guess this one didn't want to be a wide receiver. On the plus side, once Lainez files his paperwork, the BF QB legacy will be no more. And in very short order I might add.
Better than being slow and hoping they can pass the ball like the last 4 seasons.Being fast and hoping they can pass the ball as a QB is not what I want out of a QB.
Maybe, look around the league though. The only school that I can think of that has developed a starter without pulling in a transfer is Michigan. OSU did until this year. We will see if Debbie holds onto Mini Mahomes.Even in this day and age of the transfer portal, to have every single HS QB recruit since Petras '18 end up transferring, with only 2 having any kind of impact on the program, is something most programs couldn't accomplish even if they tried.
Is this the kid who got moved to wide receiver?Wow, that was quick.
Someone will absolutely pick up Cade, but his days of playing for a noteworthy school or any fraction of the NIL money he made at Iowa are likely gone. The way you have to look at it is Sullivan, Shaggy, Marco, and incoming Sullivan plus a possible portal guy. I’d say if it’s a big fish, you will lose Marco and B Sullivan so it will leave portal qb, Shaggy, and Jimmy Sullivan as your ‘25 qb’s.
The real question is who actually picks up Cade. My gut tells me it will be no one so he will be done.
yup, and subsequently injuredIs this the kid who got moved to wide receiver?
So, here's the problem as I see it. Brian and Kirk had no idea what they were doing with this position. They also had their own ideas as to what characteristics they were looking for. Lester has his as well, and it wouldn't surprise if his are different from what Brian and Kirk's were. That's why it's difficult for players at any program when the coaches who were responsible for recruiting them aren’t with the program anymore.I really wish players could be more patient. Lainez is a RS Freshman. Few RS Freshman are starting around the country.
I hope he sticks around and develops, wins out the job in 2026 and gets 2 seasons (JR and Sr years). If the writing is on the wall after his sophomore season that he'll never play, then sure, go to another program.
Probably. If not the coaches, then probably someone in his ear. Maybe family. Is it possible that Resar was encouraged to enter the portal?
someone is going to have to be DESPERATE, I think he will end up being a depth QB. JT Daniels's numbers weren't bad terrible at WVU before he ended up at Rice.Someone will absolutely pick up Cade, but his days of playing for a noteworthy school or any fraction of the NIL money he made at Iowa are likely gone.
Still a supporter of Kirk, but he needs to keep his hands out of the offense. Help with the line, but other than that stay the **** out of it.Lester inherited a freakin' mess.
That's a valid point. From what we've seen out of Lainez is he can move and he can throw. Hopefully that's enough for some consideration to keep him in the program to develop. So, here's the problem as I see it. Brian and Kirk had no idea what they were doing with this position. The portal wasn't even a factor until the last few years.Even in this day and age of the transfer portal, to have every single HS QB recruit since Petras '18 end up transferring, with only 2 having any kind of impact on the program, is something most programs couldn't accomplish even if they tried.
He should get the Sully role this year in the red zone, that kid can move. That's a valid point. From what we've seen out of Lainez is he can move and he can throw. Hopefully that's enough for some consideration to keep him in the program to develop.
You also have to consider that there's been a change in OC - not that BF is someone a QB relishes learning from, but Lester has his idea of what he wants his QB and offense to look like, and ML is someone he unwittingly inherited who is well down in the depth chart, and he may just not see himself ever getting a major role with this team.I really wish players could be more patient. Lainez is a RS Freshman. Few RS Freshman are starting around the country.

True, but Grad transfers have been a thing for quite some time though. The portal wasn't even a factor until the last few years.
I couldn't imagine a grad transfer going to a school to be a backup. This is Cade's last chance to play football for the rest of his life; he will go to an FCS school so that he can start.someone is going to have to be DESPERATE, I think he will end up being a depth QB. JT Daniels's numbers weren't bad terrible at WVU before he ended up at Rice.
I'm fine with this one, but losing scholarship players is not the method I really want to see Iowa use to get down to 105. That seems to be the Debbie method.Probably win/win.
He likely wasn’t going to play here so it frees up a scholarship and gets us one closer to 105, and he gets 4 years left at a place he can get on the field.
My only disagreement would be that I believe he still thinks he can make the league. He isn't getting there at an FCS program. Maybe a mountain west school?I couldn't imagine a grad transfer going to a school to be a backup. He can't play at any Power 4-5 school and I'm also including the Mountain West at this point. Now, if he were to somehow get magically healthy ( 2 % chance from what I've seen) he could maybe go play at a lower level. Petras put up pretty big numbers this year but he was healthy and always had a much better arm than Cade.Someone will absolutely pick up Cade, but his days of playing for a noteworthy school or any fraction of the NIL money he made at Iowa are likely gone.
Yeah. Cade isn't going to sniff an opportunity to come into a major program as QB1 unless he can find a total dumpster fire with no idea what they are doing.I couldn't imagine a grad transfer going to a school to be a backup. If people are still telling him he has a shot at the NFL, he needs to listen to new people. My only disagreement would be that I believe he still thinks he can make the league. He isn't getting there at an FCS program. Maybe a mountain west school?
