Just asked my wife if she recalled my 10-year-old prediction about Spencer Lee someday making the Olympics. When I told her he just did, she rolled her eyes, grinned, and walked off like I was crazy.
Oh, but she remembers alright . . . just won’t give me the win.

Spencer is absolutely phenomenal! If someone is better than him in par terre, I'd have to see it. He also might be one of the strongest pound for pound wrestler's of all-time.
I mean he dominated college wrestling on top using the same moves we were taught in our first two years of elementary wrestling and no one could stop him!

Zou is damn good and is a monster at 57kg, style wise not a good match up for spencer becauce he wants to slow roll and not scrap, he wants to win with just a few big moves.
Lee and Aman qualify, spencer would wreck Aman. Zou was the best of the rest at this tournament
Wouldn't mind seeing someone take him out on the backside. That's a guy I don't want to run into in Paris.
How did the other side of the draw work out? India?
Now Zain needs get pulled back in and qualify 65kg. USA is too strong to not have all the weights qualified.
He’s one of the most basic wrestlers you’ll ever see. His strength is his superpower. Grip strength is incredible. On top on that he’s a damn good athlete despite 3 knee surgeries. I’m so happy for him that he’s been able to battle back to put himself in position to accomplish one of his goals.
Followup to this: Wife calls down to the basement, “Was that Olympic thing about that kid you used to drive down to Murrysville to watch?” Wives . . . gotta love ‘em.Damn!

IMO SMFL knows he took 3 errant shots in the first and has zero defense late. He is a lot better than China. I hope they meet in Paris
Spencer realized he doesn’t have to shoot leg attacks to win big in free. This tournament was a great thing for our guy. After witnessing Tulsa live and the pure torture we all felt and he lived through this moment is truly special for a lot. 🇺🇸 🥲

For sure. This tournament was indeed a blessing to prepare him for the Olympics.
The guys from India have hollow bones. Just gigantic for their weights.
Idk if this is blasphemy, but I’d rather Spencer win gold then Iowa win a team title next year!

Ochir wins 6-1 in the semis and pulls Zain back in.
Whew.......that was close there towards the end for Ochin. Zain will have to win 4 matches, and it's going to be tough, but, he's still alive!
don't worry jrod, many of us grizzly rivals veterans knew EXACTLY what that word meant...and it will go down as a memory of learning about my favorite OLYMPIAN!!!!!!!!!!
Does Spencer spend the next few months in Colorado now? I think that thin air would be very good for his conditioning
I don't disagree at all. Spencer's loss was crushing to the program. It feels like we've been in a hangover since that moment.

Greta way to put it. I have felt “hung over” as an Iowa wrestling fan since that time. Of course the team being kinda meh and psu being other worldly doesn’t help. Them getting 2 four timers in one year, one who seems like a jerk also doesn’t help.
But Spencer redemption tour to gold will!
