Saudi blood money golf field announced

Does the time zone make viewing LIV live good?

I can’t stand watching golf but this competition of golfing providers is interesting.

These events are taking place all over the world not just Saudi Arabia, so time zones won’t be an issue. Several tournaments will be in the USA for example. I haven’t heard of any major TV networks that have agreed to broadcast their tournaments however.

Maybe streamed on TruthSocial

Anyone that has any agreement with the PGA Tour won't touch this. The options are limited and my guess is that streaming is all they will get.

The tournament tomorrow is being streamed on Facebook, YouTube and the LIV Golf website.

Well it won't be all 4 with the US Open announcing they can play there.

Guess some can have their cake and ....

In 2022. US Open was pretty specific about that. Reporting has been the Majors are in line with the PGA Tour on LIV but it will just take time to resolve, time they didn't have with the US Open next week and the British Open next month. i expect there to be some changes with the Majors and how they hand out exemptions.

JT is the man.

Last night as I was working out at the gym I was watching coverage of this LIV news and then coverage of Deebo and the Niners where Deebo wants paid more money and then the next story was about some athlete wanting paid more money and then the next one was Kyler Murray and the Cardinals, you guessed it, pay me more money. NIL, pay me, pay me, frankly, F all these people, college and pro. Millions of dollars for playing a game. F all of them. These people are completely out of touch with what is going on with the average person. They don't deserve us watching them anymore (and paying their salaries).

Went to the driving range and decided I can still enjoy sports, just I am going to do more playing sports on my own and spend less time watching sports, and those that all they care about is the money, they are off the list.

Bryson, used to be my guy. F him too. He's dead to me now.
Yeah, the constant talk of MORE money for people that are already multi-millionaires gets increasingly old, or now millions for kids who have proven they excel in High School, but yet to be seen how they do in College (insanity).

I've participated in and/or constantly watched Sports my entire life, and it wears on me too, no question about it. The Average Joe might work several weeks to gather the money it takes for he and his Family to watch an athlete in person for 3 hours that makes more in that 3 hours than he will in the next decade. It's astounding, at least to me. I've thrown plenty of money into that pit, but my support is definitely waning, my fault for loving Sports I guess.

I'm old enough to have witnessed NFL Hall of Famers playing off-season Basketball in small midwest town gymnasiums to supplement their NFL incomes (late 70's, I have the autograph's of Alan Page, Carl Eller and a few other very notable Vikings of the day, from that day when I was a young kid). Would they have liked to have made millions back then? Sure, who wouldn't? I'm not sure where that line is where it's gone too far, but it has to be on the horizon.

Fast forward 25 years or so to when I took my own 2 boys to an off-season Vikings "players" Basketball game in a small Midwestern gymnasium. I don't know if a single "player" who appeared that day ever stepped foot on an NFL field on a gameday. My kids certainly didn't get any autographs of Hall of Famers. Sad state of affairs.

I have an autograph from Phil Mickelson too (and The Walrus), from a practice round of the PGA Championship at Hazeltine in 2002 I believe. No idea where that autograph is stored, and suddenly not sure I care.

So I unknowingly helped create this monster, had I known what was coming I wouldn't have bothered.

Guys that miss-cuts and lose a bunch of money on travel are going to be pushed by their caddies at the chance to play if this kind of stuff is ongoing

Pat McAfee show is doing a really good job of talking about it today, it's been most of the show in the first hour and a half. Pretty interesting to get their take for anyone that wants to listen to some of it.

With the current player roster, I would disagree. The talent level on the PGA tour is vastly superior to the current Saudi roster. The field for the first LIV tournament is weaker than most PGA events.
Weaker than all PGA Tour events.

Imagine if 30 odd years ago we didn’t make the mistake of thinking it was a moral imperative to restore the Kuwaiti monarchy and protect the Saudi one.

Sounds like some old Libbie misses the Summer of Love. LOL!

Kinda disappointed in Louis. For some reason, I just didn’t see him breaking from everyone else. But not like I know him personally just what he seems like on TV.

Still think the PGA position is a mistake. Should have let players have 4-5 exemptions per year - I think players would’ve felt they had choices and control over their careers. Allow LIV to exist but keep it small. Now they’ve created a “you’re either with us or against us” showdown and PGA cannot compete with the money the Saudis can bring to the table. Mistake in the long-term, IMO.

New golfers will step up and those players are so good at the level of the PGA there won't be much of a noticeable drop in the quality of play. People will move on and I don't expect much of a disruption to the PGA at all.

That said, if I'm a $1 million average per year golfer in the PGA and someone offered me $100,000,000 guaranteed to play for their tournament, I'd probably take that paycheck too. I don't see much of a long term viability to LIV. Eventually the Saudi's will get tired of dumping money into it.

The concern the PGA might have is top amateurs going to LIV for their pro career. Guaranteed money without having to go through mini tours, Korn Ferry, Monday qualifying etc.

How do you reconcile this with the fact the LIV is signing these golfers to contracts for ALL of their events. So the PGA Tour should let them come and go as they please while the LIV is locking them up for ALL of their events. The contracts these guys are signing with LIV is making them employees under contract (ala the NFL) not independent contractors. The irony they are claiming their "contractor" status then giving it up and agreeing to a full slate of LIV events.

The PGA bylaws say a minimum of 15 PGA events per year. These guys could already pick and choose their schedules.

The PGA had to put the hammer down. Word is that the LIV is going to 15 events next year, then more the year after that. The LIV wasn't going to stop until they've replaced and wiped out the PGA. At that point do you think they'll still be dropping $125 million per year for each of these golfers? Hell no. At that point the money would dry up.

Well, the PGA certainly seems concerned.

Easy. Say this is what we’ll let you guys do but beyond that you have to make a choice. I think most of these players would like to do both. Find a way to make that happen and I think you’d keep most of them. But now they’re out completely.

Damn, all my favorite people. Was Colin Montgomerie unavailable?
Yes, it's chuckle worthy. But consider. From a viewership perspective, the reality is that what sells in golf is not really the grinder, but the scrambler. Tiger's history shows that. And the new league is picking up its share of scramblers and other interesting characters. Scheffle is an extraordinary player, but he's also like watching paint dry. This is going to be interesting to see how it plays out, whether that be on the course, in the courtroom, or on madison ave.

Here's the problem, it's against the PGA Tour bylaws to do this. Can the PGA Tour give one off exemptions to play in non-Tour events? Yes, they do all the time. LIV is not a one-off, it's an entire competing Tour. LIV is signing guys up to play in all their events. Eight this year, 15 next year, reportedly, more in coming years.

People also act as if the PGA Tour is an owner or corporation, it's not. It's literally the member professional golfers that comprise it. Think of it as more of a union than an owner.

There’s always room for negotiation.

The PGA has taken a hardline position and left themselves literally no way out if players start jumping ship. Time will tell if the threat of suspension keeps the remaining players in line.

Speaking of scramblers, I have no idea how JT made it out of jail a few minutes ago. Deep rough, uphill slope, behind trees, puts it on the fringe and two putts to save par. Best shot maker in the game today.

The majority of the best players respect the PGA along with respecting the people that made it what it is. Palmer, Nicklaus, Watson, Tiger. The vast majority aren't leaving the PGA for Saudi money.
