Star injured???

psu fans absolutely went nuts and crossed a lot of lines when spencer lost...it was gross

but to me, thats different than celebrating an injury. i guess not everyone is interested in that difference. thats ok
Poor character both ways. Just because the Nitwit fans behaved so badly doesn't give us an excuse to do the same. Celebrating an injury is not okay.

2021 Iowa NCAA champs
2022 exact same team decimated by injury and sickness. Good teams can have a bad tourney for a number of reasons, most commonly health. If a team gets hit with the flu right before NCAA's could be the difference in 1st and 3rd place. The Iowa team that wrestled Nebraska and Okie st beats Michigan.

More accurately, 2020 NCAAs was going to be a coronation.

Update: he's warming up in the basement now. Expected to be healed in time for b1g to get his 4th of 5 ncaa titles.

Yea, but are they 83% certain of that?

They've done studies you know. 60% of the time they are right every time!

because knee injuries aren't catastrophic if a guy still wins a national title?

you're saying that on this board of all places?
Yeah, of course I am. A catastrophic knee injury is one in which the wrestler is done or can't be effective for his team. Suriano had a catastrophic ankle injury. He tried and he was done for the year. Gable tore his ACL 2 weeks before the olympics, but still won gold. Spencer tore another ACL at Big Tens but still won it all. It wasn't catastrophic. A catastrophe is something that leads to some ruin or a tragedy.

I would say the unprecedented combined injuries of our '22 team ended up being catastrophic. After the Big Ten's the year before I thought it was a team that could potentially break the point record. Of course, the finals that year weren't great for us. But that same team was ruined the next year by injuries. It was an Iowa wrestling tragedy in my mind.

The latest word in the PSU circles is that he is on the stationary bike and plans to inj. def. out of B1Gs, but should be ready for NCAAs.
I live in a Del Webb Sun City TX community and am good friends with a Penn ST grad that goes back to Penn ST. and helps Cael run his kids summer camps. So I consider him somewhat of an insider for Nitty Lion wrestling. He says the injury status is a close hold within the wrestling room and his thinking is Star will wrestle his first Big 10 tournament match and inj default the rest to save his number 1 seed for the nattys I think Nolf did something similar several years ago. Take it for what it worth.

If he did that he would still need to injury default 1 match and take 1 loss. Also he wouldn't have the 10 RPI points for seeding purposes either because he would be at 14 matches.

Even if he wrestled all 3 matches he wont get RPI..he is 12-0 but one of his wins was a MFF which doesnt count for RPI

Hamiti will go up as well. Kharcala will be back but could go 165 with Rocco 174. Devos is back and Carter could still be back. So 174 will be tough . But Gabe is a 174 and he wants to RS so that's what he will do
What makes you think Hamiti will go up?

IF his knee is banged up as bad as what it appears, and what some are saying? He should not wrestle and let the back up get a shot. NOT to take anything away from StarFish, but with a severely limited ability to use his one leg, he is not winning another title.

His style requires him to be able to apply pressure from top among other things. He does not rack up points against top competition and is not as slick or dominating as a Spencer Lee or Jason Nolf. I guess he could try and hand fight and play defense to win close matches, but I just do not see it happening.

Could always come back if he choose to.

Bad luck like:

  • Losing Suriano to injury in the last dual meet of the season?
  • Nolf suffering a catastrophic knee injury the last weekend of January his junior year?
  • Cassar re-dislocating his shoulder while preparing to make an Olympic run during his last NCAA season?
  • Berge tearing his knee in the QFs at nationals?
  • Berge being knocked unconscious during a match and not wrestling for a season and a half?
  • Starocci suffering a fracture in his hand two years ago?
  • Robbie Howard tearing his shoulder at nationals in 2021 as a true freshman? And reinjuring it since?
  • Van Ness reinjuring his knee and missing 2 of the last 3 seasons?
Etc. Plenty of bad luck over the years at PSU too.
This post is hilarious.

Starocci lost 2 matches in his career as a freshman, one of those in the Big 10 championships, he still won the NC as a redshirt freshman and has not lost and only improved since then. He has won over 60 straight since he last lost. Just like Spencer, he's the only one who should decide if he should compete even if injured. I have no idea how serious the injury is and having a recently injured knee makes it a really tall task to compete at that level, but Spencer gave it his best go at states and pushed through so much adversity in college because of who he was. It's pretty hard to tell a world class athlete not to compete if there's any chance at all. I hope he gets good guidance and only does what is best for him but don't be surprised if he gives it a shot.

They need to change the way they train. How dare the coaches put them in that position to get hurt. Sound familiar?

NOT sure what you read??? Someone stated he dislocated his knee cap? I have NO idea if this is true or not? Also there are different degrees I guess they call it, but none are very good! I know what he has done and you might say he has had some "very good fortune" up to this point!

You may also be missing when KemDawg beat him, and when KemDawg got screwed by REFs? Once again that is NOT to take ANYTHING away from the great wrestler he is!!!

The original point still remains. His style is not in the same league as some of the other great wrestlers. Depending on how much use he will have of his leg? It would seem very difficult for him to GRIND through the NCAAs as most are saying he will FFT out of B1Gs.

Just NOT seeing what the advantage to him or F*** st that would be if you are putting him out there when clearly he is hurt? OBVIOUSLY, if the injury is not TWOOOO serious, then by all means he deserves the shot at history!

His backup is capable of being an AA but I’m saying Carter beats him even with one leg. Just like when Nolf won it all with one leg I think Carter is very capable of winning it all too. I think it would be foolish to pull him from the lineup if he wants to go.

I have not laughed thtaat hard since the Diceman, Pryor, Murphy, |Redd Foxx, Cheech and Chong etc etc. Now remember he is a comedian so they take poetic license. Trump didn't literally say in his press conference what Gillis said, but it was a funny paraphrasing of the speech.

He makes great observations. Pa. is a very diverse state in mabny ways. I'm a country , small town boy. I hate Philly and Pittsburgh and would take the Quad Cities over them any day. Want to trade?

Maybe I should start a why Iowa sucks thread? 1. Why don't you people love Snyders of Hanover pretzels? Hint, O think Pa. is the number 1 pretzel state in the USA. The things I missed the most in Iowa was our pizza, try to find an Italian name in the Davenport phone book. I'm guessing things got better from the 1980s though.

But it's really nice when you can be in one of the most populated areas and in a few minute ride you're in more wide open spaces. And in 1 hour you can see a major show. I saw U2 at Carver in 1987 for example.
My friend, for my money there were none funnier than Andrew Dice Clay and Richard Prior back in the day...both original and so fricking hilarious!

I know its a stretch and It has never happened since Cael came to PSU but wouldn't you think it's time for them to have a down NCAA's. Just by odds alone. Nagoa has not looked the same since his early season injury, Van Ness goes down, now Carter is injured. Maybe just maybe it's their turn to have a run of bad luck. I will never call any team or any wrestler a lock to win it again. I've seen superior teams and athletes lose too many times. You never know who is going to be sick, get injured, have an off tourney, or rise to the occasion.
To your point, I would absolutely love to see an off-tourney because a bunch of non-PSU guys rose to the occasion! I'm happy as can be if they're healthy and they lose. :)

Gots to love that short ride from city center to corn/bean fields for as far as the eye can see. I remember that pleasure.
