The CC Show....

Hmmmm. Must be that “reality” she was talking about.
The funny thing is the Mercury’s social media team was talking smack earlier in the week. They posted a video of a young girl saying “Who’s Caitlin? I’m here for Taurasi” and they wrote “We’ll take our 6-time Olympic gold medalist any day.”

Taurasi scored the same number of points in the gold medal game that Raygun scored in the breakdancing competition.

Last night’s win for Indiana means that Clark’s teams have swept Taurasi’s teams. The Fever won all three games against the Mercury and Clark’s Olympic rejects beat Taurasi’s gold medal team on Taurasi’s home court.

To be fair, Taurasi missed one of those games with an injury. Old people tend to get injured more frequently.

The good news is she has maintained her ‘league average’ status. That’s a challenge at her age

DT had her time. CC is changing women’s basketball and has had an immeasurable impact on so many….and for years to come. Safe to say moving forward it’s CCs league. Enjoy the ride

Anyone know how WNBA trade deadline works?
All I know is the deadline is Tuesday and from what I’ve read there typically aren’t a lot of deals made at the deadline because the salary cap makes it difficult.

They need that chick from France. Unfortunately I think our GM is a complete idiot

I doubt we’ll see Gabby Williams in the WNBA until there is a new collective bargaining agreement. She’s currently under contract to a EuroLeague team in Turkey and the WNBA’s prioritization rule makes it difficult for foreign players to come here because their playoffs overlap the start of the WNBA season. Not to mention the salaries are much higher in Europe.

You continue to ignore what I'd posted about her early league play, which is what her "resume" for Team USA relied on.
Welcome back

And you continue to ignore that her stats were just a wee bit better than one of the players and off the chart better than two others.

Same team cooperation and unity required.
So Herb Brooks coached basketball?
A very solid diversionary tactic.

Found those specifics? Must not have.

Still came up with an explanation on how ‘might be considered’ led you to ‘probably make the team’?
Doubtful. Must ignore.

The Sun sold more than 19,000 tickets for the matchup vs. the Sparks, marking the WNBA's first game in the Celtics and Bruins arena

Had no idea that CC had been traded...
Deflect, deny and fail to address the questions asked.
Not your best thread.

What am I denying?

You just posted her stats were basically the same as someone else selected for the team who had more experience.
Nope, the stats were better. Feel free to look up Arike while you are on it. Far better case than either of these two.

Better does not equal basically the same.
Getting dizzy with your spin yet? I thought after taking a day away you would at least try to come up with something relevant to support your premise.
Feel free to pull out your ‘church going maga’ attempt while you are at it.

So Herb Brooks coached basketball?
He coached a team.
Teams win team games, not individuals.

It is how a team consisting of:

Steve Alford
Uwe Blab
Dan Dakich
Mike Giomi
Marty Simmons
Defeated a team consisting of multiple NBA stars (four first-round draft picks)
Matt Doherty
Sam Perkins
Kenny Smith
Michael Jordan
Brad Daugherty
to win an NCAA championship.

Unfortunately I think our GM is a complete idiot
Fun fact - Fever GM Lin Dunn was the head coach of Team USA in 1992 when they lost to the Russians in the semifinals of the Barcelona Olympics and had to settle for bronze. That was the last time Team USA lost any game in the Olympics.

Nope, the stats were better.
Yes; I'd already posted that. They were not substantially better, they were nearly the same.

If you want to displace an established star, you're going to need to clearly outplay them, not just "do about as good as them".

The only person in denial here is YOU

So Herb Brooks coached that team as well? Nope, still didn’t coach hoops. Back to the 80’s now. Keep digging to look for something.

By the way Jim Valvano coached a team to a title. Relevance? None. It’s not what we are addressing.

Which one of those 5 you listed played zero minutes in the championship game? None. Relevance? Still zero.
Breakdown how the 72 Russians beat the US. Relevance? Still zero.

Still not answering anything I see.

But
They were better. ‘About as good as them’ doesn’t apply when one was better.
‘About as good’ applies to DT. She was an undeserving league average charity pick.

You posted "wee bit better"

Not good enough, though.
You may want to look up
Better
You don’t seem to understand the meaning of the word.

But coming from a poster who came up with
‘probably make the team’
From
‘Might be considered’
It isn’t surprising.

But
They were better.
Yes; I'd stated that for you pages ago.
But they were barely better, and the spot went to someone w/ comparable #s with more experience.

Works the same for most job applications I've been involved in deciding on. Not rocket science here.

This is fantastic.

Cites a men’s basketball game from 40 years ago, gets an important fact wrong.

Indiana beat North Carolina, but not for the National Championship. They beat them in the Sweet 16 and then subsequently lost to Virginia in the Regional Finals.

One where a team of nobodies defeated an all star team of NBA first-rounders.
Which demonstrates for you that it's not all about "the best players", it's about "the best team".

But clearly that has flown 30,000 ft over your head here.

You don’t have to go back 40 years to find an example of a 4-seed beating a 1-seed in the Sweet 16. And you probably don’t even have to go back 40 years to find an example of a 4-seed forgetting how to “play as a team” just two days later and getting knocked out by a 7-seed with a trip to the Final Four on the line.

I don’t care what Clark or Taurasi’s league averages were at the beginning of the season. If that is the criteria they used, they made a big mistake.

Which was proven by Taurasi’s poor play in the Olympics. They didn’t even play her when it mattered.

I wasn't claiming anything about "seed" upsets.
I was comparing a team loaded w/ 4 first-round NBA draft players vs. a team that had no NBA talent on it. Because the latter team played as a team, not as star individuals.

So, my point indeed went 30,000 ft over your head.

If you want to know why the Lynx coach did not put CC on the team, email her and ask.

Can you link where you stated they were better…… without any qualifications? You know the ‘better but….first 6 games, last 2 games, etc.’ tactic?
I understand that you won’t because you don’t do the whole ‘posting facts to support your position’ or answering any questions.

‘Probably make the team’ still chuckling at how you got there.

Your post might be right next to some of the other junk you have made up in this thread.

Can you link where you stated they were better…… without any qualifications?

Go find them yourself.

I admitted they were better, but comparable.
You admitted they were "a wee bit" better, which is no compelling argument.

And left out that Kenny Smith was damaged goods

Lol, no. Your point didn’t sail over my head. I know exactly what you were trying to say. But your point fizzled and landed at my feet when you falsely claimed Indiana beat North Carolina to win the National Championship.

Upsets like that have happened in the tournament hundreds of times. You didn’t have to go all the way back to 1984 to find an example like that. You went back so far that Uwe Blab (who btw was a first round NBA draft pick) wasn’t even from Germany. He was from West Germany. Because Germany had not yet been reunited. Because we were still in the throes of the Cold War. You went so far back in time that Doc Brown hadn’t even invented time travel yet.

You didn’t have to go back 40 years to find an example of a talent-laden roster getting beat by a focused, determined ‘team’. Hell, Fairleigh Dickinson beat Purdue. Hampton beat Iowa State. UMBC beat Virginia. Princeton beat Arizona. And so on and so on.

On any given day in the tournament anyone can beat anyone. It’s why the tournament is so compelling. It’s why millions of people who don’t even watch basketball fill out brackets trying to guess who the upset victims will be. It’s why they call it March Madness.

Yep. He was wearing a brace to protect his broken wrist. And Brad Daugherty suffered a hand injury that limited him to 3 points.

But somehow, through sheer tyranny of will, Indiana - with only two future NBA players on their roster - brought down the mighty Tar Heels with a victory that would pave the way for Joes Place to one day argue that the most impactful rookie in the history of the WNBA doesn’t belong on the Olympic team.
