The Elon Musk Twitter shitshow

Thought we were talking about Twitter. He has no goal with Twitter and is winging it.

Musk’s life goal? No idea. Don’t care.

I think his Twitter goal is linked to his biggest goal which he has talked about often over the years. I just don't think the twitter goals he set is going to ever come to fruition bc politics plus social media have made people toxic.

People had trouble getting to the polls. Best to give them seven days to vote.

Now THAT would be something....run an online poll, but you have to "wait in line" on the page to vote for up to 8-10 hours if you're white and privileged, instant voting if you're poor and a minority. And the page requires you to click a button every minute to hold your place in line to vote, or you go to the back of the line.

Duped by who? He is trying to change the culture on Twitter, to do that you have to break a few eggs to break the previous established environment.

I love what he is doing, I think it is hilarious watching democrats become republicans in terms of crying about the exact same things the other group was crying about the past few years. LOL, you guys are who you hate.
Duped by Musk.

When did republicans cry about Musk's hypocrisy? I don't give a shit what he does with twitter, it's his company. Those not on the far right were of the same thought before Musk got involved - it's a private company so they can make their own rules on what to allow. The right wingers cried about the suppression of "free speech" (demonstrating each time they don't know what free speech is) and calling for bans to be lifted and all posting to be allowed. Now those same right wingers are cheering Musk's bans of speech as he has tantrum after tantrum.

The rest of us are mocking you, PF and all the other Musk fanboys. It's hilarious.

Did he?

Seems like it was a silly, reactionary, thing (just like how he's running it now) and he spent loads of legal cash trying to back out of that rash action. But failed.

Now, he's in the same "reactionary" mode, while bleeding cash from the company and selling off another $3+B of his Tesla holdings to prop it up.

As to the twitter purchase my guess is Elon sees risk in the direction our society is trending (honestly it is pretty easy to see when you aren't two feet into one of the echo chambers). Risk that could potentially GROUND his number one goal in life.

There is no doubt he has a massive ego, most that achieve his level of success in life do in one way or another, and this goal puts in him the history books forever if it comes to fruition...I think he wants that (see ego comment).

So if there is massive risk building that could keep him from achieving said goal a person of his wealth just might try to mitigate it. I don't think he is doing a great job (if my theory is correct) but it isn't my money so I really don't care all that much. I just don't look at life through a Republican or Democrat lens like you do.

IMO his biggest goals are toast. He’ll still be a billionaire and still be a presence but reputationally I don’t think he ever recovers from this.

I am clearly mocking you, and you are clearly getting upset...it is a common trait of the overly political.

Another symptom that often presents of the centrism mind virus is insisting that, apart from their enlightened apolitical understanding of things, there are only two viewpoints and those are Republican or Democrat.

Yes...it is kind of like when a parent disciplines their child in a similar manner. They take some ones toy so the parent takes it from their kid and asks them "how do you like when the same thing happens to you".

Maybe he is resetting the playing field, letting the previously privileged group understand they are not in control and free to do whatever they want anymore. Maybe this is just his Great Twitter Reset.

He has a vision for twitter, one that doesn't include him losing $44B, he is acting on that vision. He knows he can't do that without massive users and it can't just be an echo chamber just from one side.

The most logical answer is typically the correct answer.
JFC are you scrambling.

Occam's Razor tells us that an impulsive, hypocritical narcissist way overpaid for a company and is frantically trying to save face.

Yea, the “We who are above the fray” attitude is tiresome.

It’s also selfish, because underlying it all is a view that if it doesn’t affect me directly, why should I care?

No idea, why don’t you tell us?

Point is, he’s now toxic to half or more of the country. He was a mysterious smart guy who did some cool things. Now he’s shown he’s basically Donald Trump with real money. Nobody’s going to follow him or help him achieve his goals.
I'll share bc no one is willing to step up and give a rational theory and instead want to talk in political talking points.

His number one goal is to colonize Mars and going back in time (before twitter) it seems pretty obvious, these articles really made me feel Colonizing MARS was his number one goal a year plus back. Like I said he has a big ego, have to, as big goals often require big egos. This one puts him in the history books for all of eternity.

How does that relate to twitter? Risk Management

I think Elon believes that technical advancements are actually on his side in terms of achieving this goal and that he can push it forward. The money was even lining up to make it possible and that was one of the goals with StarLink, kick off free cashflow to help fund this project.

In terms of Twitter (I still think it was a mistake) but with technological advancements lining up it would be external events that keep him from hitting this mark. Unless you have been asleep the last 8 years the biggest threat to him achieving Mars is likely political instability within the United States. A destabilized govt system, a system he needs to be in tack to keep decent timelines for this objective is the biggest risk to SpaceX hitting their Mars mark. So I think he bought Twitter thinking he could help cool the political climate so his Mars goals could remain in tact. Not sure he is doing a great job but it isn't my money and the entertainment value of some of these temper tantrums coming out of it is high.

But when he says "the hive mind is a risk to humanity" what he is saying is, "our current political climate of collective destruction is going to get in the way of us being interplanetary". He has also stated on numerous occasions that being multiplanetary is a requirement for humanities survival. It is a logical, the theory best fits this purchase and lines up with what has been a very big driver for him...and it makes me think I am right and the political lunatics are just being their usual lunatic selves. They have zero ability to even look a few weeks down the road much less years down the road.

They remind me of the living pay check to pay check people. Working so hard to put food on the table today that they pass up opportunities to put food on the table for years and years to come. Its a scavenger mentality, trouble is you always locked in to being a scavenger with this mentality and your life never changes.

That would be great for Elon, labor laws don't apply on Mars.

lol… you really just proved our point without realizing it. elon is going to blow 44 billion and ruin his businesses to own the libs.

Yet it is his $44b to ruin and the story hasn't been written, that is the fascinating part. Lots of people saying it is a done deal, only bc they want it to be a done deal, and the rational saying...lets see where this goes. It could take off like a rocket or explode like one. The thing is we are not even at the firing up the engines stages, yet so many want to see the game is over.

So he’s trying to cool the political climate by inflaming it? I think you’re giving him way too much credit, given his affinity for crap like this:

No idea, why don’t you tell us?

Point is, he’s now toxic to half or more of the country. He was a mysterious smart guy who did some cool things. Now he’s shown he’s basically Donald Trump with real money. Nobody’s going to follow him or help him achieve his goals.
I don't think your last line is true at all. We saw it with Trump and we're seeing it here with Musk. The are a LOT of gullible people out there.

Not hardly

He's making it much much worse on his platform, allowing "LibsOfTikTok" to spread hate and dox "drag shows".

Exactly. There’s no “plan“ here, and no point trying to figure it out.

Also, I see some of Musks defenders have given up (good!) trying to explain his Calvinball rules, and shifted to “well, whataboutAntifa!”. So their contribution to this conversation has run its course.
