This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

Give ‘em the Migs. Send them from Ramstein.

Putin: "I am sending troops to Ukraine to protect the civilians from neo-Nazis."

Putin's troops: *taking a page out of the Nazi playbook; executes all fighting age local males, in a genocidal fashion, and throws nearly 300 bodies in mass grave before leaving area*

Starting to change my thinking on the no fly zone stuff. The West needs to do more, especially with Ukraine starting to get some momentum. Russia is gonna go all scorched earth on their way out. The massacres are going to be a daily thing.

Ukraine should get expedited membership to NATO. Any unfriendly troops in its territory within 30 days will be considered ripe for retaliation from NATO.

Wishful thinking I know. But even when Russia loses, Ukraine will have paid a higher price than it should have and Russia will just try it somewhere else.

There is some breathless reporting that Putin and Zelensky may meet in Turkey. The Turks seem to be pushing this as they attempt to position themselves as peace brokers. Hopefully there is something to this, but the Ukrainians are not going to accept any loss of territory, and at this point I cannot see Putin agreeing to meet in person with Zelensky. In his eyes he'd be lowering himself, and he'd be losing prestige at home.
I know it wouldn't help, but I kind of want Zelensky to sneak a pistol in and shoot that mfer right between the eyes.

Then again, maybe it would help.

This Bucha Massacre gives me the sads so much. The UN is as pathetic and is just a circle jerk for nations to look cool. If it worked as intended this would have never happened. Hopefully we have some crazy OPs going on inside Russia to overthrow the regime or setting up an assassination attempt

This is who they are and all we'd have is a broken historical record like we have with major atrocities like the Gulag if not for the internet in 2022. The means justifies the end for Russia, but this one can't be swept under the rug or into mass graves
It’s hard to argue. There’s never been a good Russia, where they took care of their people and weren’t expansionist in nature.

I take "ever" to mean generations. Germany and Japan made it back with assistance from the victors who oversaw the regime changes. Even if Putin is toppled as a result of this, how easily is Russia forgiven if the people oligarchs who stood behind Putin until now take over if all they've done is withdrawn from Ukraine?

And the blood is on the hands of Westerners who have enabled them for decades.

They’ve operated this way for hundreds of years
They have had special squads and political units. This was planned, you are right about that. A lot of the conscripts are blameless, though. I don't really feel sorry for any of them at this point, but when it comes time to hold people accountable we need to be precise.

I have been wondering about this ever since it was reported that Russia was starting to pull back from Kiev. Is the plan to regroup, rearm, and then cleave off the eastern third of Ukraine? Given how poorly the Russians have performed so far, I have my doubts. I don't know about now, but at the beginning of the Russian invasion 50 percent of all Ukrainian forces were in the Donbas region, and their most seasoned troops were there.

I think they desperately wanted Zelensky dead and now they’re never going to take Kyiv. Without changing the government the next move is probably to try to cut them off from the Black and Azov Seas.

It makes sense that they’re looking at sending troops to Transnistria if they plan to go after Odessa.

Someone asked about the Bucha crimes against humanity story being picked up by the national media. This is the host of a Sunday morning show on MSNBC.

I have a bad feeling we have just nicked the surface of it. I fear they murdered tens of thousands in places like Mariupol. There should be two big things that happen this week as the images and stories come out:

1) The sanctions should be elevated and most importantly nobody in Europe and as many places as we can align should be buying Russian oil or gas a week from now.

2) The UN needs to suspend Russia from all councils. If they can’t even do that (because the have been complete boar tits this war already) it’s time for it to cease to exist.

Yah the UN needs to end, it is so pointless.

I wonder if the hand wringers who spent days working Biden over for suggesting that Putin needs to go will apologize, or just STFU?
What’s the administrations plan to make that statement happen?

If it’s not the administrations goal or policy he shouldn’t be saying it. That’s what the criticism was about…not that people disagree that Putin needs to go or is a war criminal.

This story about Russian dead literally piling up has a note about how one pro Putin Russian news outlet stated this week that 9861 Russian soldiers were KIA. Then the story was taken down. Then they said they’d been hacked, but refused any comment or proof. Even that number was probably a little low, and it’s certainly over 10,000 by now. That is stunning for a month’s worth of combat.
Lots of stuff in the article about how the Russians are just leaving there dead behind. That has to be demoralizing for troops, and it will leave a lot of families angry due to a lack of answers.

The Russians undoubtably have lots of dead, way more than they’ve copped to so far.
But that paper was much more likely hacked than given the ‘true’ classified KIA count and told to sit on it.
