The US controls or influences every aspect of this from the West side, including sanctions, Nato, security guarantees, and also the US involvement/partnership in Ukraine. Moreso than Ukraine. Ukraine will likely agree to whatever the US comes up with that works. I doubt it would have to include ceding territory but it will include neutrality for sure. Ukraine is in a very precarious position and has to be careful not to lose US support. It's a lot of support, influence and money and if they lose that it's over. It makes it difficult to negotiate, especially things like neutrality. That's the problem.
If they don't cede territory, which I don't think they will, then the beat goes on la de da de die.

Yes, that seems to be the narrative. Biden himself said he doesn't know. Seems like an important thing to find out. Somebody should ask. It's better to hear what the other side wants first, in any type of preliminary negotiation, rather than guess.

Also, when Obama was president he spoke to Putin about once a week. Obama probably knows Putin better than anyone. Might bring him in on this.

“But it appears to me that at some point along the line, there’s going to have to be a negotiated settlement here, And what that entails, I don’t know. I don’t think anybody knows at the time." - Biden 6/3/2022

Kishida looks to be first Japanese leader to attend NATO summit

https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2022/06/04/national/fumio-kishida-nato-summit/

"Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is planning to attend a NATO summit slated for late June in Spain, a development that would make him the first Japanese leader to take part in a gathering of the Western alliance, a government source said Saturday.

Kishida’s attendance at the June 29-30 event in Madrid is dependent on the domestic political situation leading up to an Upper House election likely to be held July 10, the source said.

Through Kishida’s participation in the NATO summit, officials hope Japan will strengthen coordination with the United States and European countries in response to Russia’s war in Ukraine and possible contingencies over the Taiwan Strait."
