This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

OK, plain language explanation of what just happened in the Kherson bridgehead...

https://www.ukrdailyupdate.com/updates/update-for-october-2-3

On October 2nd, Ukraine launched a massive armored attack down the T-403 highway that runs roughly parallel to the Dnipro river. This attack occurred during stormy conditions that limited Russian air cover and the use of drones and coincided with an electronic warfare attack that jammed all Russian communications.

Ukraine charged down the highway, shattering the first line of defenses and rolling down to Havrylivka and Dudchany, over 20km from their starting positions. Russia reportedly blew the bridge in Dudchany, hindering the Ukrainian advance

That is fantastic. I think the worry is what happens if the Trump loyalists win in the midterms and have a congressional majority of GOP. It’s a legit concern IMO
The concern is if the lunatics control enough votes to make the House unwieldy. Is Speaker McCarthy going to yank the leash? What happens if it’s Speaker Jordan?

Stolen from Reddit:

And for all the Russian/Republican puppets coming to defend annexation...imagine if all your talking points for Ukraine was applied to Alaska...

  • "What about the rights of the Russian speakers in Alaska?"
  • "It was just a mistake when Russia sold Alaska"
  • "Alaska puts NATO right on Russia's border. They feel threatened."
  • "Russia has nukes! We have to give them a slice of western Alaska or we might have nuclear armageddon. Has no one ever heard about diplomacy? I for one want peace, not war."
  • ... "Historically speaking, appeasment works!?" idk what they're thinking but probably that

😆 the MAGA trash country singer weighs in

He's asking a necessary question. What is the Biden administration doing to provide an off ramp to Russia and Ukraine to put an end to this war?

Russia isn't going to stop according to history. First they will throw more men and machinery at the problem and if that doesn't work they will further escalate.

We had some get stuck and some lost to friendly fire, but none attributed to enemy fire.
Give the sheer scale of armored forces at war, it’s absurd to think the Iraqis couldn’t manage to kill a single one of our Abrams.
The collective butt pucker from the Soviet general staff upon learning that news probably affected earth’s rotation.

I read somewhere that, after analyzing the performance of the US forces during Desert Storm, the Soviets determined the only way for them to stop an all-out U.S. ground and air assault in Eastern Europe would be using nuclear weapons.

what is Russia going to do when it’s driven out of Ukraine, the US puts a military base in Crimea, and nato’s borders get extended through Crimea? It’s not going to have a choice but change unless it wants to become North Korea

Big Map

When looking at the regional maps I have a hard time figuring exactly where the Ukrainians are and how far they have to go...

Gains made but a long way to go....hopefully the advances keep accelerating before winter really hits. If history is a guide there will be a pause.

BBC has a big map...second one down in the link...couldn't save the image. Still a long way to go.

That’s why they should be accepted into NATO, only after there is a cease fire. Putin isn’t gonna take on all of NATO.

The off ramp is to get the F out of someone else's country. Russia appears to have pissed off the West enough that they will lose no matter what they try.

Because there is no off ramp to Russia that Ukraine would accept.

Any off ramp for Russia involves Ukraine ceding territory to the bully. Why the hell would they do that especially now that they are winning?

Furthermore when you hand territory over to Russia that only teaches them that they can get what they want through the same methods.

War sucks, but this is one that has to be fought. Have you people learned nothing from Neville Chamberlain?

It's pretty freaking sad that it's the conservatives that are all Neville Chamberlains. They used to be the most gung ho, punch the Russians in the nose, don't let them get out of line group. Now they want a foreign democracy (who is for the record winning!!!) to surrender to the Russians. Either they are lily livered scared of standing up to the Russian bully or they are secretly rooting for the Russians to win. Which wouldn't surprise me considering how much they praised that country and it's "manly" military right up to the point they invaded Ukraine.

Although I agree with you, lately I've wondered the opposite.

If Ukraine was apart of NATO as of today, would that do anything to have Putin back down?

I highly doubt it but you never know...
