A lot of bad trends have emerged. What happens when/if we go 1 and done next week?

Very disappointing to have such high hopes and have them dashed by poor desicions down the stretch.

Absolutely not. Do you remember where we were at before he got here? Plus we have good recruits coming in and I'm hoping with the seniors moving on we don't see the team choke up so much at the end of games.

One thing I do think we need we haven't had yet is a top flight point guard

Fran needs to shake up his staff. I am sure they are all nice guys, but he needs to upgrade recruiting. The talent level at Iowa is absolutely awful. A walk on is our best bench player ....that is pretty telling. Good thing we sat Williams all year so Clemmons and Gesell can underwhelm in important games. Just an epic failure by Fran and the players. No chance they beat anyone in the tourney.

Fair point...I'm worried these things will plague Frans tenure. Clearly we need to reverse the late half curse and some other trends. Is he bringing in guys that can do it? Some certainly look the part. I like what he has done for the program as a whole, but is Fran capable of getting the Hawks over the "hump"

I hope so. I think in high school it is easy to see who can shoot, jump, dribble and all that stuff. I think it is hard to see which players have that mojo which makes them rise up in tight moments. Sometimes they are Andre Wooldridge and sometimes they are Mike Gesell when the going gets tough.

C'mon guys, Lick set this program back decades...just wait until Fran gets his own players....

How often do you think the theoretical next coach will have back to back 12 win seasons in Big Ten play?

I don't know if some of you appreciate this but the Big is an ultra competitive league.

this ain't the WAC.

No chance huh? I'd say if we are playing good early we can at least win a couple games. Now if it comes down to crunch time I tend to agree with you.

One of those late half swoons was when his kid had cancer and Iowa went up a against a brutal schedule.

Hard to knock a guy's coaching performance when he's got a much bigger concern like that.

If he cannot ever recruit closers, he may as well find a new job.

High level PG or bust.

Ugly trends.

I was done after MN game. Writing on wall. They are in danger of NCAA bashing.

I'll give him that one. That is something I could never imagine. But what about everything else? From the long sustained scoring droughts to the poor possesions late in halves. Certainly his record in close games tells a very depressing story.

Man, it really sucks. I'm already over it. In the 70's in Denver here this weekend. St Patrick's parade and hitting LODO then hiking on Sunday.

What I am saying is I love Iowa sports but a loss has ZERO effect on my life. Perspective.
Happy for you...the rest of us are pissed and are going to bitch for a while.

Personally, I'd rather we just went about being mediocre from the get-go than constantly building our hopes up only to shit on them in the most embarrassing of fashions.

Recruiting rankings after high school"
Trey Burke - Ranked #84 overall
Adam Woodbury - Ranked #39 overall
MIke Gesell - Ranked #75 overall.

Hell no. Disappointing trends like making the NCAA Tournament 3 years in a row? They still have at least one game left. Can't you at least wait until the season it over to start these threads?
Or how about his record in close games...or another late season collapse, or the scoring droughts, late in game desicion making, minutes and rotation? Take your pick. Dr Tom had a better tourney resume and he was ran off. Fran after 5 years is not immune.

Now why know why Charlie Brown wears black and gold.
Just when we get our expectations up, Lucy pulls away the football.

I wasn't aware that was the subject of your thread. So Fran's success should be judged on record in close games, late season collapses, scoring droughts, end of game coaching, minutes and rotation? I'm going to judge Fran's success on record, NCAA tournament appearances and NCAA tournament record. If you want to have a thread on the things you discussed, I'm fine with that and I'll probably agree with you. But the premise of your thread was not those things it was "Is it time for Fran to move on?" And the answer to that question is hell no.

I guess I'm getting at the idea of the expectations versus the results in his 5 year after what has emerged. I like the foundation he has provided. At what point do these things not get over looked. Personally, I think he should get two more years to stabilize the program.

I don't think it's time to move on but you do need to make some changes. The anger has to be seriously toned down. You need to have/get players with more muscle. You need to investigate this fatigue issue that hits in February. Do something to promote mental toughness and desire.

I don't think they should be over looked. Could they be Fran's eventual demise? Are these the things that are going to make the record worse if not improved? To me Fran's had success despite of these things and ultimately he'll be judged by W/L's. I do think all of these things are concerning but if it doesn't dramatically affect the W/L's then I can easily live with these things. I have my concerns with Fran but I've also seen the positives of what he's been able to accomplish here.
