Fur was flying today!!!
Gilman and McD (Gilman=stud)
Clark and Dennis (Clark looks great!)
Sorensen and Marinelli (Marinelli is really good he OWNED Sorensen for the better part of practice)
Holloway is really really big looks great! If he can make it he will be our 97.
165 is a real trouble spot for us I don't think they will pull Matinelli's shirt to wrestle 165 he would be a very small 65 very small

Good stuff and right in line with what I have seen in prior practices.

Probably Padock if he can make it he looks big but not to big for a 65. Sammy Stoll was working hard in the weight room and walking without a limp!!! He did not roll at all.

So if this accurate and Marinelli owned Brandon, and is in fact to small for 165, what happens next season 49-65. Is Marinelli big enough to grow into a full 165 by next year or does one of Soren/Kem/Marinelli ride the pine again next year? Or we roll with an undersized Marinelli at 65?

You beat me to the punch, 2000. I'm glad AM is looking great at 57, but the NCAA math is daunting without a contender at 165, and it gets worse in 2017-18 before it gets better. It also raises questions about where Berge fits in, assuming he's also a small 165. Sigh.

It's kind of a bummer if Alex can't go 165 this year. That's really going to hurt our title shot. 165 is a tough weight and I'm not sure Paddock or Gunther would have much success against that meat grinder of a division. In the offseason the bull and the dawg need to get together and decide who's going on the heavy lifting protein shake diet. I'm sure the redshirt year will benefit Alex in the long run and it'll lengthen the amount of time we get to see him and Lee in a lineup together, so maybe it's not all bad.

Have AM go this year at 157. If he can beat up Sorenson like that, then he can give the top guys at 157 a go at the very least.

Berge claims he's 149. So 149/157 is seemingly likely.

Alex will be fine at 165 --- 157 would be a big cut--he can gain some muscle no doubt--but he isnt as small of a 165 as many are saying.
With that said I think its still 50/50 if we see him in lineup this yr.

50/50? ok ill make an even money bet he dont redshirt this year

Thx for update. It's frustrating that we always seem to have 1-2 weights that are holes. It just seems like you could plan these things out a year or two in advance.

Rough math:
TG = 20
CC = 20
BS = 20
MK = 13
AMeyer = 10
SB = 10
SS = 10
Total = 103

That's if all goes flawlessly. Subtract 5-10 for reality.

Best team we've had since 2010, but we need 10+ more points to contend.
Even being undersized, don't you think AM could score us some points at nationals? If he is really "owning" BS? 5 points from him could be huge.

Wrestle him this year and take a shot at the ship. Redshirt him and Lee next year.

What is the ideal weight for Marinelli for individual success? What is the ideal weight for Kemmerer for individual success?

It sounds like 157 and 149. If the Marinelli can be an NCAA finalists at 157, I would rather he stay there. If they both place 5-8, is that more points than one finalist? I would prefer go for individual titles, team titles will take care of themselves. It just seems like Penn State's formula is to have more studs than it is to have 8 - 10 AA's.

Ok, no shit. Was he really owning him or holding his own. Be fair here. Some of us don't see practice all the time. BS is a national finalist. Was he truly "owned"? Be real please.

It's Deja vu all over again...Was it last fall another true fr was dominating everyone in the room?

Yes...from what I heard from the room, Marinelli is a bad, bad man.
I did like his spunk at the Dream Team against Hall, but Hall was so damn tough to take down even though he was on his heels on a few occasions. He couldn't finish, but he was for damn sure trying.

IF he's owning BS and taking it to THE STACHE then stick him in at 165 this year. IF that's happening then he'll score points at nationals and is clearly the best option. I hope this is really happening but will keep my hopes on a more logical level until he makes a magical run in STL and helps us bring home another national title. Gman, Clark, BS, the Bull, and Brooks winning titles will all have us flying high on Saturday night and I'll buy you all the first round at Ballpark Village!

If he is that bad you guys have a chance this year. if if he wrestles 57. Personally I would probably enjoy his finals match with Nolf.

Also remember that he has been in the room since June working with the coaches. Just watched some of Alex's matches from this year. He is the rare guy who shoots early and often...every once in awhile gets scored on but he goes so hard that very few can keep up with him. Watched him take out Cali state champ and Oklahoma guy Justin Thomas pretty easily in the Ironman finals. He has a Metcalf like gas tank.

Perhaps the most telling match was against Karoly from Blair at Ironman. He was playing catch and release, assured his major dec but still cut the kid and scored on him with ten seconds left. Watched him cut a kid in the Ohio semifinals with nine seconds left. Announcer was like "WTF?" He scored again. If he can wrestle college guys at that pace, he'll be very good...even at 165 as stacked as it is.

I also heard about Marinelli doing well against Kemdawg as well but I didn't "see" it so take it for what it's worth. Same thing with Happel...who is doing very well in the room. That's coming from one of his peers.Turk is a heavy dude, solid, so getting down might be a struggle for him unless he is very disciplined. I don't want to get into the Lee/Gilman battles over the summer...I would have to see it to believe it.

All of that said, it's the room. Mike might be out of shape etc, etc. It's one thing to be a room stud, it's another to go out and prove it on the mat, blah blah blah. So grain of salt and all that. Can't wait for the season to start.

GIlman outscored his total listed here last year as runner up. I think we're looking at something like this:

Gilman - Champ, something like 24-26 points
Clark - Runner up 18-20 points
Turk - Nada
Sorenson - Runner up/3rd place, 20 points max.
Kemerer - 6th place, 10 points.
Paddock - Nada
Meyer - Nada. I know he placed last year, but this is JMO; I thought it was fluky. Too inconsistent.
Brooks: 4th place, 16-18 points.
Stoll: 6th place. 10 points.

Agree 100%. That's why I'm frustrated that he's (apparently) not at full feed and ready to go at 165.

It's still early...if they have til midlands to make the call (which they do), then they can work on beefing the kid up while testing him up at 165's. Should be entertaining and good message board fodder until its decision time - I hope he goes to see PSU against Iowa at each of their bests!
