Today's practice

If he is that good and better than Kemmerer, why would he not wrestle his preferred weight and risk not placing? Some real big boys at 165.

To help the team win a title? Doesn't that mean something?
I guess I was thinking in terms of Kemmerer not scoring any team points, or just a couple at 157, and Marinelli being able to score lots of team points at 157, and maybe a lot less at 165. I figured that would be better for the team. Of course, if they both AA, then that's a different story.

In that case it would make sense. I think most people suspect at minimum an AA from Kem, and likely a high AA.

Kem is a stud who will score points. Whether Kem at 57 and Bull at 65 scores more than Bull at 57 is a fair question. I think the only way the Bull wrestles 165 is if he makes the finals at Midlands and gives Imar all he can handle. That is if those pussies show up.

Isn't Wisconsin also there? So, he would have to beat Jordan? I don't think I would require him to be at that level by Midlands in order to start. But, I agree he should be competitive with those guys.

Kemmerer is currently ranked 7th out of the chute by Flo. Which is about where I think he belongs to start. He's a redshirt freshman. That's pretty darn good in my book, and if he wrestles up to his ability, he'll rise from that 7th spot.

I think people have gone bat shit crazy to think anyone besides Kemmerer should man 157 for the Hawks this year.

Kemerer is a legit stud who I think has a chance at top 4. Why let a guy like that sit? Plus, he is going to bonus a lot of guys this year. Marinelli should shirt if he's not big enough for 65 and let Midlands be the decider.

Win.

I don't see a huge difference between 157 and 165. I like the idea of a talented youngster growing, eating and competing over the next 6 months.

It's Deja vu all over again...Was it last fall another true fr was dominating everyone in the room?

Seems like it was Kemerer who whipped up on BS last season. Then real matches started and though Kem killed it for a freshman he wasn't at BS's level.

I don't mean to offend anyone because I think we have some pretty astute wrestling observers here (like Big Fall) but I always doubt "room reports." It is just difficult to know exactly what's happening in a drill or go live.

Well that was not a room report last year. That was taketop's word from back in PA based on what he had heard.

There were also reports of Turk dominating everyone in the room last year. I don't doubt those who have seen the Bull practice, but maybe the "domination" has more to do with familiarity of wrestling the same guys everyday.

I don't know how to link from my iPhone. But a quick search of taketop found three separate threads where he is babbling about Kemmerer. And you personally responded to him in all three. You even stated that you would remember him in one.

I don't think he was the only one. That's my point.

Great post by me...I barely remember what happened yesterday let alone over the course of a year.

I sometimes wonder if one guy isnt working a technique while the other offers resistance! Depending on who is working on what can make one guy appear better than the other in practice. I do like hearing positive observations though and am thankful to those who offer information.

Lot's of practice room heroes at all levels/ages all around the country that you never hear about. Because it's practice.
Practice is to get better not win the go. Upperclassmen at this level understand that so I'm not surprised that some very accomplished D1 wrestlers lose live goes to young upstarts who a lot of times are more focused on winning the go than getting better. Not that anyone in particular is less focused on getting better but those early wins in the room mean more to some wrestlers than others so I take them with a boulder of salt.

We will know after the Midlands. The Bull should get a shot at either IMart or Jordan there. IF he competes with either one than we will know if he is ready. I will say he is the best wrestler we have had since Metcalf and honestly might end up being better. Some may not realize he is that damn good. While beating the snot out of BS and Brooks in the room may not say all that much to some the kid is for real!!
Kemdawg is a top 3 or 4 at 157. He has so many ways to score from his feet it's scary. The only thing that may hurt him against guys like Nolf or Smith is he could improve on his mat wrestling.
Meyer is a different animal so far this year. In years past I have seen him struggle in the room. This year(granted it's a small portion) he has looked a TON better!!
GMan is GMan. He is my favorite Hawk and has taken control of the leadership role. Yes he has been kicking the crap out of anybody(including McDonough) he is a bad man and barring a injury WILL BE A NATIONAL CHAMP AND ATLEAST MAJOR ANYBODY THAT IS ACROSS FROM HIM!!
Clark is Clark. Kinda reminds me of Perry at times probably will lose a match or 2 but when the lights are on I would not bet against him.
Brooks scares the crap out of me. 184 is going to be crazy hard next year with who is returning. Then add Martin and Downey for sure and most likely Nickel. Hands down the deepest weight next year.
What I would give for a solid option at 197. Probably the weakest weight out there and we have nobody that will AA.
Turk is not bad but mat wrestling NEEDS to improve. Another pretty loaded weight. So I am hoping for Rd of 12 type guy here. Happel making strides but still has work to do.
Stoll will be back and has a MAJOR chip on his shoulder. Obviously he won't beat Snyder. Deshi is the next biggest threat in my mind. I think he matches up VERY well with Walz.
Finally my sleeper pick is Skyler St. John. He will get some matches and if Marinelli is not ready for some reason don't be surprised if Skyler is the guy!
Sorry for the novel guys!!

GMan= Champ
Clark= Camp
Turk= 2-2
Sorensen= 2nd
Kemdawg= 3rd/4th
Marinelli= 3rd/4th
Meyer= 4th/5th
Brooks= AA(pray for him a lot him)
Holloway??= Ouch
Stoll=3rd
That will come close but don't know if it's enough to take out Oky State.

Oky State
Piccinni= Low AA
Brock= 2nd/3rd
Heil= 1st/2nd
Collica= 4th
Smith= 2nd
Rodgers=Low AA
Crutchmer= 3rd to 5th
Boyd= AA
Weigel=AA wow 197 is not that deep
Larson= Rd of 12

reddogg, there is no Larson on OSU roster. I believe who you are thinking of is OU's hvy. But, if we can get blood round out of Schaffer, it would be a pleasant day.

I hadn't heard that anywhere, but I just checked, and he is still listed on OU roster. Wouldn't mind having him, but don't necessarily think that he would be any upgrade. Plus, OU has shown already they wouldn't release anyone, so he would be out of eligibility before he could wrestle.

Add Brooks to the list.
So far we have the undersized true frosh handling Sorensen, Kemerer, Evans and Brooks. But Skyler St. John will be the starter... Ahh... the Offseason

I was getting ready to call BS, not brandon sorenson, if someone mentioned tnt would not let stoll roll with him so soon after the injury rehab.

It would be awesome if Brooks was big enough to go 97, other than j'den he could beat anybody else there, as Brett pfarr will probably be ranked 2nd coming into the season. Wilcke at 84 and Brooks at 97 would score more team points than Brooks at a loaded 84 and Holloway at 97 in my opinion.

You may be onto something there.

We still have about a month before the season starts. By the end of Oct, the Bull may already be ranked among the all time greats, i.e. Gable, Cael, Dake, etc, etc.......
When does the season officially begin? Next week? Seems like forever since March!

Depends who you were listening to, but I seem to recall there was still a lot of questions about Turk's ability to get out from underneath. I think the reports and feelings on Alex are different than they were for Turk.

Turk's mat wrestling was a pretty obvious weakness, but so far it seems like Alex is a more finished product.

He isn't beating Brooks so I am hoping that was a typo. I did watch the Bull put Gilman on his back in a pretty good scramble. Gilman is game to wrestle anyone in the team. Doesn't always turn out well for him but he doesn't back down.

bingo, i'm sure evans was coaching up the bull.
The sessions I watched with Evans vs Bull were very competitive. I think I had it 3-2 for Alex on take downs but don't remember for sure. People also need to realize there is mat wrestling in folk style. The open practices do not give you much to go on in this area. They are still fun to watch and some guys do stand out. I don't put much stock into most match ups unless you see multiple encounters with the same results.

If Marinellis is in fact going toe to toe in TDs with Evans, than it's only a matter of time before we see him in the starting lineup at 65 this year.
If he's that good on his feet, the only mat wrestling he really needs to learn is getting out from bottom, just ask Kyle Snyder.

I may sound a bit optimistic but I am telling The Bull is the best wrestler we have had since Metcalf. So many similarities it's crazy. I am no way saying he is the next Gable, Dake, etc. I'm just saying if you get a chance to see him someday you will be EXTREMELY impressed!! He actually has beaten Brooks in practice and almost caused a fight between the 2 because of it.

Thanks for the insight Reddogg. I want to believe all of it, but I gotta take all this room talk with a grain of salt. Midlands can't get here soon enough.

On a side note. Imagine if Marinelli had went to Ohio St. Tom Ryan would be starting the Bull this year before you could say Isaiah White.
tOSU would have been the hands down favorite to win the team title this year. Sucks for them.
