Only 19 guys remain uncommitted from Flo’s Top 50 ranked recruits for the class of 2016. With early signing week in November and official visits now permitted we should see these guys commit soon. Mark Hall is the cream of the crop. I suspect Happel will be a Hawk, Moore a Panther. Breske and Red are two blue chip type guys who I haven’t heard much about their potential choices. Anyone have any insights or predictions?

I would really like Happel and one of Breske or Moore if we can't get Mark Hall.

Marinelli - Top 10
Young - Top 50
Happel - Top 25
Rathburn - Not sure on his ranking? But hes a stud in the state of IA.
Moore/Hall/Breske - All 3 are Top 10, even one would be nice.

I would be pretty happy with this, and then Spencer Lee next year.

I'll be intrested to see how Rathburn v Portillo plays out. With CG up to 2A this year we could see two 2xers at the same weight.

I'm talking beyond night of conflict.
They are registered at different weights for the conflict so maybe they won't wrestle during the season after all.

Will Isaiah White sign (qualify) anywhere come November or will he have to go the juco route which has been rumored over on another board?

I have heard the same thing on all 4 that OmahaHawk mentioned

Zander and his brother Evan are tough under the radar guys. Evan gave Larry Early all he could handle at Fargo (also beat Hidlay of PA and pinned Parriot) so I wonder if they are a package deal. Would be a good pick up for ISU if so because I think Evan has a high ceiling.

Breske going to WI is not a lock. I am not saying it won't happen (parental influence likes the school just over an hour from home). He has his sights on a career beyond college and what he is looking for he may not feel he can get at WI.
I mentioned in a previous thread that Lamont will most likely stay close to home and join his brother at Utah Valley.

I agree. If it was a lock it would be done. I understand parents wanting kids to stay close, but I also think you should put your kids in the best position to succeed and be happy. Go Hawks!

Breske has told numerous college coaches that he is going to Wisconsin and is not interested. That is why I said "lock." Obviously things can change with 17-18 year old kids. I would be thrilled if he became a hawk but I was just sharing what I was told.

I would guess the Wick's would be a package deal. I think ISU got in good with them last year before they blew up on the scene at Fargo(they trained there for a couple weeks before). I think you would be surprised if you saw their results and size last year before Fargo. They have improved leaps and bounds and grown a whole lot.

What if Hall/Breske/Wick's all go to Wisconsin. They could be pretty dang tough in 2016-2017 When Medberry comes off Redshirt and will be a SR, Jordan is a SR, and Taylor is a SR. Could be a flash in the pan top 5 team in 16-17, but even with Hall, I'm not sure they could continue to be top 5 without adding more bigger names after losing Medberry/Jordan/Taylor

Breske to Wisconsin is a fallacy. He hasn't told anyone anything. He has narrowed things down to his 5 and WI is one of them, but he may actually be leaning toward Nebraska.

Is Iowa in his top 5? I'm in Wisconsin and I haven't seen or heard anything about his top 5 here.

I'm not sold on Breske and the Wicks being difference makers as true freshmen.

With Burroughs and with Green now a World Medalist, Nebraska landing top recruits on a consistent basis will be common.

I would say that depends on what you're trying to get out of your college wrestling experience. Long story short, Iowa blows away Nebraska in every possible matrix you can think of as it relates to College Wrestling. Just in the case of Green alone, he is a 4x All-American, but was never an NCAA Finalist, but now he's a World Medalist, in Freestyle. Never part of a Team Championship. So how do you want to look at that when you take it all in?

I think Metcalf has beaten Burroughs every single time they've wrestled, as far as I know all in Collegiate Folkstyle when they were in the same weight class. Now Burroughs is king of the Freestyle world and won 2 NCAA Titles in 4 chances, Metcalf won 2 in 3 tries and made the Finals 100% of the time he was eligible to do so. He's one of the top Freestyler's in the world too (ranked 2nd going into Worlds is pretty good), but doesn't have World hardware to show for his efforts, though he does have some Titles and some high placement in other tough tourneys internationally. So what does that mean exactly? I think it's a complicated answer to be honest.

Nebraska has had plenty of high level recruits, and they've had a solid program for years. Certainly having one of the best Freestyle Wrestlers on the planet isn't going to hurt them, I just don't think it's going to help them as much as some may think. That is my opinion, right or wrong. We'll have a lot better view of the impact about 5-8 years from now.

Having one of the greats in American freestyle wrestling seems to be beneficial for Penn State, Okie State, and Iowa...

And having a ton of NCAA Team Championships and NCAA National Champions and NCAA All-Americans hasn't done Iowa or Okie State any harm either. Of course these are merely Folkstyle results, not that that matters when discussing College Wrestling.

I kinda agree. Metcalf was all world coming out of high school while Burroughs was an interesting project for Manning. Burroughs won a state title in Jersey his senior year but gained Manning's attention when he won NHSCA. Given a fourth chance, I think Metcalf would have been a contender. Still, one has to laud the progress Burroughs made from project to dominate in such a short time in both folkstyle and freestyle.

The parallels between Green and Burroughs are amazing. Same state. Only a single state championship. Both won NHSCA titles as seniors. Green didn't have the success that JB did at the national level but he was damn close.

Per capita, it's hard to deny Manning's success. Plus, JB has the charisma to attract good talent. Did anybody watch his post World Vegas interview? I'd send a kid to wrestle for him. It will be interesting to see how his coaching career turns out but I think like anything else he does, it will be top notch.

Or American folkstyle...

Cael, yes. Probably the greatest wrestler in NCAA history. Tom and John Smith? IMO no.

Donny Pritzlaff, Kerry McCoy, Pat Santoro and Sammie Henson have similar NCAA credentials as John Smith. And the same goes for Barry Davis and Tom.

So by your statement, I'm assuming you believe those mentioned should be considered "great American folkstylers", yet the only three that consistently coach their teams to the top 5 are Cael, Tom, and John (the only Olympic gold medalists of those mentioned). Hmmmmmmm
