They play tonight at Wahlert. Should be a great game. Lohaus is out for West and John Timmerman is out for Wahlert.

I do think Wahlert has the chance at the upset with their height throughout the lineup. Connor should be able to have a good game against David Wedewer. I can;t make it to the game so any opinions on the three Iowa recruits are appreciated.

I'll try to give a report. Both are down a tall front court starter, but I think West is still the heavy favorite with D-1 caliber players Wali Parks, Connor McCaffery, Patrick McCaffery and Devonte Lane, plus a couple of other good players who get little recognition. Parks and Lane are quicker than anyone Wahlert has, and they'll surround Pemsl and dare anyone else to score. And West's three big men all go between 6-5 and 6-7, so the heights aren't that different. Besides, high school ball is a horizontal game, not a vertical game, and West is horizontally better with their their terrific guards (McCaffery and Lane).

Great breakdown. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a blow out, especially with the injury of Timmerman as it is a big blow to Wahlert's depth. It will be interesting to see if Wahlert's front court can jeep them in the game.

I'm seeing scores now. Wahlert won 76-68. McCaffery had 26 points, Pemsl had 21, Wedewer had 20, and Parks had 18. Good win for Wahlert and good numbers for Pemsl and McCaffery. A little startling that Wedewer scored 20 on McCaffery. I wasn't there so maybe he just couldn't miss shots?

It was a well-played game. Fran and his wife were there with a big IC contingent. West jumped out in front 20-12 in the first quarter, but Wahlert outscored them by 16 the rest of the game. Wahlert led at the half 39- 30 and by six at the 3rd and won 76-68. Both teams shot lights- out from the three. Connor had 26, mostly on long shots and a few inside. Five threes. He looked outstanding. Pemsl had 21, which is his average. He got off to a slow start, but finished well. Wali Parks looked good and West had a ton of three-pointers ten, I think), including several by Henderson. Wahlert had Devonte Lane pretty well bottled up. Lots of action on the boards and lots of blocks and altered shots by Wahlert. Several dunks by both teams. West forced Wahlert into some turnovers at the end, but Wahlert's guards shot lights out at the end and then Pemsl and Wedewer hit four straight free throws.. Guard David Wedewer had a terrific floor game and had 20 points, and Wahlert rebounded every West miss, it seemed. It'll be another story when Wahlert travels to West next month, but the Dubuque team looked very good tonight. (Some sidelights-- Patrick McCaffery played, but didn't score. He's a full 6-7 and you can see his potential. Connor looked 2-3 inches shorter than Cordell.)

Very glad to see that C Pemsl had a big game. I think he has a very good chance of being a BIg factor for Iowa, in the upcoming seasons. Still needs to get faster, stronger, but has a natural feel and savvy for the game of BB. Bodes well for him and the Hawkeyes!

Thanks for the updates! Did Connor look good on defense and Wedewer was just hitting contested shots?I found it a little surprising that he had 20 points, but when he is hitting shots I know he can score a lot.

Lane guarded Wedewer quite a bit of the evening. When whoever was guarding Wedewer lost him for a split second, he hit a big shot. Wahlert's effort tonight was totally different than last week against CF. Fun game to watch.

Patrick McCaffrey didn't play a lot. Seemed very thin and struggled a bit with the physical play in the game. Connor got fouled pretty hard at the end of the game with no foul called and Fran didn't take it well. Being the father of children, I think I would have reacted the same way. Ironically, it was Robert Smirh, Norm Granger, and Stacy VanArsdale officiating the game.

Very entertaining high school basketball game. A lot of talent on both teams.

Just saw all the stats from the game. To show you how hot Dubuque Wahlert was, Iowa City West shot 68% from the field for the game, hit 25 out of 31 free throws (11 more than Wahlert), made 7 threes---and lost. Go figure.

McCaffery and Pemsl both had about 5-6 assists, West forced more turnovers from Wahlert, as West pressed most of the 4th quarter, forcing some passes to the outside, where some went out of bounds; not many steals at all; the big difference was that Wahlert had 29 rebounds, many more than West, and the shooting. Pemsl had 11 boards and two blocks. The shooting was incredible. Wahlert had two players who hit every shot, and guard Wedewer missed only one shot on his way to 20 points. Best players on the court the whole night--- probably the guards-- Connor McCaffery.and David Wedewer. They shot lights-out and didn't turn the ball over against intense pressure.

I was really impressed that Wahlert was able to pull out the win with 19 (I think it was 19) turnovers, even with the shooting.
