******Iowa St vs Iowa Game Thread******

I'm a sucker for blondes in ponytails.

let's just say you're post I'm quoting was on the very very tame end of the spectrum of that thread. 😳

If you're cool making fat jokes and thinking people shouldn't be offended that's all good. And keep up w/the lighten up meme's. I"m sure you're a perfect specimen of a man. Oh, again, she poured in 31 pts and got 10 rebounds and single handedly kept them in the game last night.
Where did I make fat jokes? I didn't.....just stated facts that she is massive & uses the size to her advantage. Just cracks me up that you and Millah get all worked up about some comments here, but I don't remember seeing you on here defending Deacon.

And if she's such a great player, why does she disappear against decent bigs like she did last year vs Stanford(3-21) & this year vs SC(didn't do anything until garbage time)? Great players find a way to contribute in big games. I like Hannah, but don't consider her to be a great player just because she's had a couple huge games against overmatched competition.

I doubt Crooks would be effective 2 1/2 years from now in the WNBA at that weight; we'll see.

Was last night not a big game? And if you think she was the reason they didn’t beat S Carolina then you’re wrong. They couldn’t complete a pass to her. I’m done arguing with you man. 31-10 is a career night for almost any player. And for the record I think she will struggle in the W. It’s such a more athletic league. But at this level she’s a dominant player.

Not worked up. Just think people can be better.

I would still take O’Grady over Crooks as O’Grady blocks more shots, runs the floor better, and is a better overall passer/team player than Audi. Iowa’s three posts of O’Grady, Heiden, and Stuelke will be just fine for the Hawks.
Nope, and I don't think it is close. I think O'Grady is the third best center on Iowa's team, behind Stuelke and Heiden. I would take Stuelke over Crooks for sure.

The discussion of Crooks in regards to team play is interesting.
Her offensive contributions are not debatable. But I still question if it outweighs the defensive liability she currently is.

I feel offense vs defense is close to "a wash". She takes up space in the lane. I don't recall any Clone guards driving for layups or driving and pitching to the corner for an uncontested "3". That's a liability to the ISU offensive options.
Iowa exploited ISU's lack of athleticism.
When there's a rebound and a fast break going the other way... she's not even at half court by the time a shot goes up. Where's her contribution on defense? Answer... there is none.
If she can get to within 5' of the hoop, she's a force. If not, she's a liablity. She was powerless to stop Olsen when Lucy had the "pullup" 10 footer.

In last nite's game, she scored 31 points. I maintain her presence in the lane allowed Iowa to score more than 31 points against the Clone defense when she was in the game.

I realize Iowa recruited her hard and obviously wanted her. But I doubt she would have the stats she does if she played at Carver. The Hawks play fast...or try to. That's not Audi Crook's strong point.

Our starting Center was 1-5 and our backup Center did not get a shot, 0-0. I'll agree that she's terrible in pick and roll defense but individually she absolutely dominated O'Grady on both ends. Our 2 Centers went 1-5, so she was not a liability against them. I liked Stuelke in the 4th quarter because she was pretty fresh and Crooks was gassed. Great strategy but we got very few easy shots in the paint last night.

But I'm not done arguing with you, LittleD! 🤣

Iowa simply couldn't deal with her massive size, because AOG is soft & HS gives up like 100 lbs. Almost all her buckets were using her girth to establish deep lane position & then simply turn over her right shoulder to score from 2-3 feet. Since that's what you consider to be a skilled/great player, maybe you can add her poster next to the one you have of Shaq?

Was Shaq not a great player mostly because of his physical attributes?

Yep, I was looking at Iowa’s overall trio of posts, which I like as a group, better than Crooks.

Show a bit of god damned respect for a good kid that is from the state of Iowa.
Amen.

In fairness, it’s hard not to comment on her size because she’s such an outlier. It’s interesting because it gives her major advantages in some ways, but it’s a serious hindrance in others. I think it’s totally acceptable to talk about it, I mean we all have eyes and it’s obvious she’s the biggest woman on the court and it’s so unusual for an athlete.

But, the meanness in some of the comments are NOT COOL. Crooks has a lot of great skills and she seems like a really nice Iowa kid. Wish some here could be better, but can’t say I’m surprised. While we’re at it the pic of wife jokes have grown whiskers, too. Good to know a woman’s value is still measured by how she looks.

Agreed. I don't care if people talk about her size because of the reasons you stated. It's the added cruelty to some of it that is totally unnecessary.

Horrible argument….decent bigs are Monica Czisano, not Cameron Brink, 2nd all great players have poor games, 3rd she’s had a shit ton of great games including vs us last night, 4th you’ll never be confused for a talent scout

AOG's issue was bobbling the passes. That happened at least twice.
Heiden isn't a scoring threat right now.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Iowa is fortunate that ISU is a mess against anyone average or better.
BTW: As an aside, I bet Lucy smiling almost 100% of the time really pisses opponents off.

I really like our girls as well, and AOG has certainly played better this season, (so far against mostly sub par teams compared to upcoming ones), BUT I disagree about almost all the rest. For some reason people downplay Crooks, because she's a big heavy girl, but she's a damn baller, and Other then run a bit better theres nothing AOG does better then Crooks. The stats point that out clearly. Crooks is a better scorer, especially against size. AOG struggles against players her size. As a rebounder there is ZERO comparison. Crooks averages 9 boards a game for pretty much her whole career. AOG generally 3 or 4 boards in a game. Crooks has GREAT soft hands and catches most everything. AOG looses a LOT of balls in traffic, and is not strong with the ball. Crooks has much better footwork then AOG as well, and probably a better passer out of the double team. AOG is also not a shot blocker. She gets some, but her foul rate is too high as she generally swings down on her block attempts heading her into a lot of fouls. As for the better "team player", I'm not even sure where in the heck that comes from. ISU needs Crooks to score so she has a high usage, but she's shoots a high percentage, and they'd be totally screwed without her on the block. I don't see any sign from her team mates or coaches that she's not the hub of their team.

1) Brink was in foul trouble most of that game & she still couldn't do anything against her back-up. Guessing you didn't watch that 3-21 masterclass or when she was completely shut down by SC this season?

2&3) Most teams don't have posts that can deal with her massive girth. Like last night, she simply pushes them down into the lane & turn for a simple 2-3 footers for 90% of her shots. Great players can score in a variety of ways & still impact the game when their go-to move is shut down.

4) Or a YMCA coaching legend like yourself......who never ran out of post-game snacks! 🤣

I absolutely think Heiden should be splitting minutes. She just looks way more athletic. We'll see what it looks like late January..

Last years team played fast. We had this girl named Clark. This years team is largely a half court team. I bet if you counted our fast breaks baskets this year in the first 10 games you wouldn't even average 1 per game. Last season we averaged 94 points per game, 1st or 2nd in the NCAA. This year 74pts/gm. Two reason. Lack of productivity from three point shooters, and little transition scoring for easy baskets.

Brink's backup that game is going to be a Top 3-5 pick in the WNBA draft this Spring.

Dude, she incredibly talented. It’s great she will not have to worry about WNBA for 2 more years. Audi is an Iowa girl that I will pull for 99% of time. She can suck it up against Iowa and I’d be happy. ISU seems to have same issues most Fennelly teams have in that it’s always 1 player featured and other 4 just run around to pass it to that player. See Ashley Joens for recent example. Speaking of Joens, with Lisa being retired, is the obnoxious, imbecile dipshit father Brian allowed back in Carver. Or was ban permanent?

Unfortunately, to some ppl, making obvious observations with the intelligence of a 5 year old are celebrated as "edgy" or "telling it like it is".
Looks account for zero points on a basketball court.

Yes, incidentally this comes back to the internal bias we all have. Some of these guys really believe this.

I’m not unhappy Audi plays for ISU, but she’s a good passer, and very good rebounder. It’s crazy how biased folks can be and yes that includes those of you who think “black” Caitlin Clark from Iowa wouldn’t be a huge marketing draw

Guess you're not done after all! Shaq was f'en garbage.
I was about to defend you regarding your Crooks comment(s) b/c I think these posters that you're arguing with are soft and sensitive, but man....

...Shaq was garbage?? Punch yourself in the balls.

Serious question: How old are you? Old enough to have been able to watch and appreciate his play when he was in the league?
