Well, as you know, we nearly lost, but we are the better team and Emily Ryan may not make the rotation for us. I mean, I suppose she would probably come off the bench, but do you like her better than Feurbach, Affolter, Guyton, Stremlau, maybe over McCabe

The big things making that effective are Crooks' fatigue and total lack of hops + ISU guards who are not very proficient at the over the top entry pass.

I think she was fairly gassed when when that "intentional" foul against O'Grady happened. I think it was less a flop than it was a cry for O2. I know there have been jokes about her size etc but she is in a unhealthy situation and would hope the training staff at ISU would address it. She would still be a big girl if she took off 75-100 pounds and it would immeasurably help her health and her knees.

Totally agree. The ruling on the foul was nonsense. O'Grady wasn't even looking in Crooks' direction. As is, Crooks is gassed after lumbering up and down the court 3 or 4 times, and can't play more then 3-4 min spurts without her condition deteriorating her play. If Crooks wants to continue playing and live past 50, she needs to drop some weight, even 30-40 lbs would help.

For sure and she’s never going to be in a better situation to learn and get it done than she is right now considering all the resources a D-1 athlete has at their fingertips.

Free personal training
Free gym access
Free nutritional guidance
Free healthy food every day, all day long

Now's the time for a college athlete like Crooks to change habits and get into the best physical shape

Mentioned in another thread about her being gassed in the 4th qtr. as being a big faactor in Hawks win along with not a lot of people mentioning Guyton's two big threes.

Yea that last 3 was the nail in the coffin.⚰️

The biggest thing for me is, that it was drawn up for her. A frosh with 5 games under her belt.

I have really been impressed w/Jan. Though the burning 15 second off the clock (all coaches do it) standing out top, chafes me!

Was that play really drawn up for Guyton? I doubt it. Frankly, I think Iowa was shocked that ISU would be in a zone with a 5-pt deficit and only 1 minute remaining. Lucy correctly decided that it was more important to run the clock down. It looked like Iowa was then going to have Lucy work off a screen from Stuelke at the FT line, but then at the last second she saw that Guyton was completely unguarded.

Maybe, but it’s clear she was an option and they utilized her without trepidation

I think it was drawn up , and it was the play that Jada suggested. Randi whispered in Jan’s ear the possession before and Jan nodded. Next possession…swish.

Heard a player say it was a screen, but Lucy saw that a shooter was being played off so she looked the defense off and passed to the shooter. Guyton shot it with some rhythm and it went in.

AOG's issue was bobbling the passes. That happened at least twice.
Heiden isn't a scoring threat right now.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Iowa is fortunate that ISU is a mess against anyone average or better.
BTW: As an aside, I bet Lucy smiling almost 100% of the time really pisses opponents off.
Lucy just enjoys playing the game and appreciates all the fan support here at Iowa. I don’t care if her “exuberance” pisses off any opponents. There are simply way too many “sour puss” player faces in sports. Nice to see when a player is enjoying the game.

I really like our girls as well, and AOG has certainly played better this season, (so far against mostly sub par teams compared to upcoming ones), BUT I disagree about almost all the rest. For some reason people downplay Crooks, because she's a big heavy girl, but she's a damn baller, and Other then run a bit better theres nothing AOG does better then Crooks. The stats point that out clearly. Crooks is a better scorer, especially against size. AOG struggles against players her size. As a rebounder there is ZERO comparison. Crooks averages 9 boards a game for pretty much her whole career. AOG generally 3 or 4 boards in a game. Crooks has GREAT soft hands and catches most everything. AOG looses a LOT of balls in traffic, and is not strong with the ball. Crooks has much better footwork than AOG as well, and probably a better passer out of the double team. AOG is also not a shot blocker. She gets some, but her foul rate is too high as she generally swings down on her block attempts heading her into a lot of fouls. As for the better "team player", I'm not even sure where in the heck that comes from. ISU needs Crooks to score so she has a high usage, but she's shoots a high percentage, and they'd be totally screwed without her on the block. I don't see any sign from her team mates or coaches that she's not the hub of their team.
I see your point somewhat, but I think the clones having to rely on Crooks so much for scoring/rebounding can/will actually be a weakness for them at certain points of their season. For instance, she will have some off nights, be in foul trouble, get injured, etc. Whereas, the combined post play of O’Grady, Heiden, and Stuelke will allow Iowa to be able to weather such “storms”. And don’t get me started about Crooks defense…she’s just a statue on d.

Unfortunately, to some ppl, making obvious observations with the intelligence of a 5 year old are celebrated as "edgy" or "telling it like it is".
Looks account for zero points on a basketball court.
Agreed, but if you ever read the cyclone site game thread during Iowa vs isu games, the amount of comments about the looks of Iowa players, “punchable” faces, pasty, geeky, etc is pretty pathetic. They sound like a bunch of women. 😉

I'm not disputing that Jan has better options then last year. AOG has been better, Stuelke is their small ball post, and I think Heiden will continue to grow into a star. Your initial post that I responded too was that you would take AOG over Crooks. Thats what I responded too. You also stated Addie is more of a "team player". Not sure what thats about. Crooks is basically their team. If she doesn't drop 20 and 10 + against any decent team they're probably going to get stomped......

Amen.

In fairness, it’s hard not to comment on her size because she’s such an outlier. It’s interesting because it gives her major advantages in some ways, but it’s a serious hindrance in others. I think it’s totally acceptable to talk about it, I mean we all have eyes and it’s obvious she’s the biggest woman on the court and it’s so unusual for an athlete.

But, the meanness in some of the comments are NOT COOL. Crooks has a lot of great skills and she seems like a really nice Iowa kid. Wish some here could be better, but can’t say I’m surprised. While we’re at it the pic of wife jokes have grown whiskers, too. Good to know a woman’s value is still measured by how she looks.
