WBB 2017-18 Season

Is too bad we've had the injuries. They're playing really well, don't get me wrong. If we had Tania and Mac we beat the girls from the mitten state by 20.
I fear our lack of depth will catch up with us and we'll drop a few games with shouldn't.

You well may be correct, but one thing I like about this team is how well conditioned they are. Yesterday you would have thought Michigan was the short-handed team. I saw a lot of hands on hips in the fourth quarter for the maize and blue.

Michigan only played 8 players.

Player of the Week
Megan Gustafson, Iowa
F/C – Jr. – Port Wing, Wis. – South Shore

• Averaged 24.0 points, 13.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game with two double-doubles, a .619 field-goal percentage and a 1.000 free-throw percentage (22-of-22) last week as No. 23/21 Iowa opened Big Ten play with wins over Wisconsin and No. 21/19 Michigan
• Collected 27 points (making 8-of-9 field goals), 11 rebounds and a career-high six blocks in Sunday’s victory over Michigan to post her NCAA-leading 14th double-double of the season
• Registered 21 points and 16 rebounds in last Thursday’s Big Ten opener against Wisconsin
• Earns her sixth career Player of the Week honor and fifth of the season, tying for the second-most Player of the Week awards in a single season and most since Ohio State’s Jantel Lavender had a record-setting six honors in 2010-11
• Last Iowa Player of the Week: Megan Gustafson (Dec. 26, 2017)

Yikes - Maryland has seven players averaging double figures.
Iowa barely has seven healthy players!

Where do people gather to watch Iowa Women’s Basketball in Iowa City? When I’ve tried to go to a sports bar, it has never been easy... or even possible... to get them to put on the game.

I wonder if the restaurant where the Hawk Talk with Lisa Bluder show is recorded will be more willing to show the women's away games if available.

6 teams from the big 10: dream on! they only had 4 last year.
Non posters not sure why I'm even replying, but last year is last year. 2017-18 year is completely different. If you look at the RPI currently the BIG is setup nicely to get at least 6 teams in NCAA's.

Pretty much what was expected tonight I think. On top of everything else, travel trouble probably helped to throw things off.

I would have liked to see Zion get more minutes, especially when the game was no longer in question. She seems to hold her own. Not only would it give her experience that would help her to contribute down the road, it would save the legs of our more regulars.

Too many turnovers. Hawk's only losses are to #11 Florida State and #13 Maryland. Time to start a new winning streak.

Regarding turnovers, it seems Iowa's guards, mainly Doyle and Meyer when she was playing, have been too eager to pass and often forced issue, while the other players are almost afraid to pass, leading to very weak ones, as if the ball slipped out of their hands.

My biggest turnover gripe is how many come from entry passes to the posts. Too often we make one pass to the wing and the wing holds the ball for a few seconds before forcing a bounce pass to a post that is doubled. Alternatively we try to lob it over the top and are often either short--resulting in a steal-- or long--resulting in the ball sailing out of bounds.

Instead, I think we need to move the ball around the perimeter more to get the defense moving. Entry passes are usually easier after a few quick swings of the ball.

I would agree. Many of the turnovers result from bad post entry passes. With the way officials are allowing the defenders to hold and push, Megan is often off balance. It is amazing how many of those passes she snags, but the passers have to be more active in moving the defense for better entry angles.

Drive around on game night and look for a steady stream of women with butch cuts going into an establishment. Boom, there's your game watch!!

Totally unnecessary and unhelpful comment. Make peace with yourself dude, others will do the same as best we all can. Playing God is not a complimentary role for little boys who never grow up.

How is that not helpful, if you found that demographic you would most certainly have a better chance of finding a women's basketball gamewatch than if you followed a bunch of dudes into a bar wearing NFL gear, am I wrong? And "playing God?" Ha! Thanks for the title but not trying to do anything of the sort.

‘Driving around’, as you say, just prior to a game, ‘[looking] for a steady stream of women with butch cuts’, is not really practical. If you know this to be true, why not just tell him where? Or are you just making a stereotypical commentary about the women’s basketball fan base?

So you are stereotyping. That’s not something to be proud of.

For those who are looking for real help finding a game-watch location, here you are...

I will be working at the VFW on hwy 6 in Iowa City today. The game will be on, I will not change the channel. You don't have to be a member to come in and you don't have to have a drink I just love having people around that love women's basketball as much as me.
Game time is 1PM. So, come in and join us in cheering on the Hawkeyes over stinky Illinois! if we win, I'll buy you a beer! I'll be the guy behind the bar!
