WBB 2017-18 Season

Low scoring first quarter 14-10 Hawks. Megan with 8.
But with 2 fouls. She's going to miss most the 2nd quarter.
The other bigs are having trouble rebounding.

Running/fast break is really working. Getting a lot of open shots.

Alexis with a three.
28-17

35-17 at the half. 21 to 7 run to end the half.

Doyle played 15 minutes, that's a good sign. 5 turnovers, though. She must be pretty rusty. Stewart again had 3 steals. She's got it locked down on having the opposing team throwing the ball to her. Iowa's all three bigs had very nice games. I wonder if Morgan State is a small team.

19-29 free throws, I'm afraid Iowa will no longer be nation's best free throw team after this game.

Only negatives were the FT shooting and the TO. They shot about the same from the field as they did from the FT line.
Hannah has been doing very well. 6-7 from the field, steals, rebounds.
Amanda is doing great too, and Carly. Bench depth is solid.

Great start for Lady Hawks but I'm still concerned that there's not enough athleticism on this team. Curious to see how they look when playing a team like Florida State.

Hawks down by 12 at the end of the first quarter. Charlotte will start with the ball in the second. Iowa looks out of sorts. Charlotte is packing the lane and we're not converting our threes.

Final game of the Puerto Rico classic today at 4pm. Elon is 5-0 after beating Alabama yesterday, 60-55. Alabama was 4-1 coming in.
Should be the toughest game of the three in Florida.
Hampton beat North Carolina earlier this year. Then Elon beat Hampton by 23.
Elon was a NCAA tournament team last year. Shay Burnett had 23 points and 10 rebounds against Alabama , her 21st double-double.

Hawks up 72-61 with about a minute left. Refs have been letting a lot of pushing and hacking going on inside. Megan, Alexis, and Chase playing well. We're still struggling on the free throw line. Makenzie got a technical early in the game after she made a layup and was hacked with no foul call.

All of these comparative analyses generate odd results early in the season... for example, Ohio State, 43rd, huh? Nevertheless, I like how this team is coming together. Gustafson is a force, good guard play and the combination of Stewart and Coley playing well on any given night. Also, helpful schedule. One concern; The have GOT to Stay healthy!

Why does Iowa Women's Basketball require a subscription to listen to Bluder's weekly conference call? Seems like they should be more open to drawing in fans rather than requiring $$$ for this information.

I truly believe this COULD be one of the greatest times in WBB history at Iowa. There is more than one player on this team who could go down as truly Hawkeye greats. The best of the Stringer era all over again... IF the hard work and health are there!

Unacceptable first quarter. How could they miss that one shot? :D
I think we may have saved a few of those set plays (high/lows for example) for this game.

Did Iowa's coaches really ask Meyer to intentionally miss the second free throw at the end? Such a terrible call if true. Did they really think, after what had happened in the whole game, that Iowa could get the offensive rebound? Iowa would have been down by just one and over 8 seconds to foul and get back for a three pointer to tie the game. And they did make a three at the end, losing by a point.

9 turnovers in the 4th quarter. If Iowa didn't turn the ball over like that in the 4th quarter, they probably would have maintained the double digit lead till the end.

Bad passes are what lost the game. So many forced or lazy passes. 21 turnovers versus FSU with 7. Led to 26 FSU points . Take care of the ball and the Hawks win by double digits.
Iowa shot the ball well in all phases.
Agree, some come from being young, but 21 turnovers with a bunch in the 4th was the difference. Many led to fast break polnts and we still had a good chance to win

I liked the call. And it almost worked. Chase had a hand on it (and perhaps could have been more aggressive.)
Big trouble no matter what. After making the free throw, would have had to foul, and then bring it the length of the court with no timeouts...and make the shot. All in eight seconds.

I just feel the probability of Iowa actually getting an offensive rebound was lower than fouling and scoring in 8 seconds. It's possible that Iowa's coaches saw that FSU was the type of team that would foul before the opposing team could attempt a 3-pointer. Though, it looked to me the foul on Meyer was not intentional.

You can be sure FSU would have fouled as soon as ball in front court. They are ranked team for a reason. I believe they gave UConn their toughest game last year and most of players back.

Makenzie's reaction after being told to miss on purpose was pretty funny.

But that wasn't my favorite reaction shot of the night. That was Megan's embarrassed smile as the athletic trainer got to 2nd base with her. (She must have had blood on the front of her jersey.)

I love this team! All are intense, but you can see they all are having a great time and all really get along.

Uconn lost a game last year, but it wasn't FSU.

Couldn't have been Uconn's most difficult game, Uconn lost a game last year and it wasn't to Florida state. But yes, Florida st is a good team, they were the better team yesterday anyways.

Iowa was the better team for 31 minutes. But not at the final buzzer, and that's what counts.

She had just got her arm wrapped because of blood and then noticed it on her uniform (breast area) and told the ref. I said thank goodness for female trainers.

Sunday at 2 pm. Against Samford (alabama) .Samford only lost by 15 to Florida State, at FSU.
Samford University is Alabama's top-ranked private university. Located in suburban Birmingham

Samford beat a good UCF team last night. Won't be as easy as I was hoping. I'm a little concerned about a let down after FSU.
