WBB Recruiting 2017 and On

Funny how this thread started on subject with recruiting and ended with a fight about HS teams. Lets get back to the recruiting aspect eh?

Well considering my last post was 20 hours ago, I would say I dropped it, like I said.

Houston played her most aggressive game of the year against Johnston, though not close to 100% conditioning wise. She will need to play with that intensity going forward.

Tom, please pass on my greetings to Lieutenant Torres and Captain Janeway. Are you still in touch with the old Maquis friends?

:)Sorry, I can't resist. BBC America has been putting on all night showings of Star Trek Voyager and I realized just how I enjoyed it much more than Next Generation or Deep Space Nine.

Every time Holy Family Catholic made an attempt to cut into a second-half deficit March 10 in the Section 5AA championship final, there was Monika Czinano.

Watertown-Mayer's six-foot-three post, a University of Iowa recruit, scored 22 points with 18 rebounds, leading the top seed to a 55-44 win at Halenbeck Hall on the campus of St. Cloud State University.

Czinano converted eight-of-14 field goals from within 10 feet of the basket.

It is the second state tournament appearance for third-ranked Watertown-Mayer (26-3); the first since 2010.

Holy Family Catholic, trailing by five points early, used a 9-2 run, a Shea Thompson 3-pointer giving the Fire its first lead, for a 21-17 advantage.

The two teams were tied at 25 at halftime.

A 7-0 run, capped by a Klitzke 3-pointer, gave Watertown-Mayer the lead for good at 32-25.

Holy Family Catholic got within four once more. A pair of Brooke Bowlin free throws at 40-34 with 7:19 left seemed to be the Fire's last chance.

There, though, was Czinano, who dominated offensively, but also made life for a slashing Fire squad tough.
Monika is going to State.

Iowa needs to recruit a post player who can take a blow and give one back. (Heaven knows I am not knocking M.G.!) Is Czinano that type of player? The future is bright...

Isn't she there for the fashion design major? I don't think Iowa offers it.
From what I heard, she is graduating early and can transfer and play right a way. As it pertains to her major, Florida is the #1 school for it..........ISU 2nd. I did hear that it was likely she would leave and get back closer to the Midwest. But, again, just what I heard.

Czinano is a solidly built ,back to the basket post Like Megan was as a FR. Monika has another year of HS, and then will have a year to understudy with Megan.
The thing with Megan is that she never stops working. She has added a very nice mid-range jump shot and great FT accuracy to her game. There is a reason she was 1st team B1G as a soph.
If Monika can add to her game she will do well.

Monika plays in the first round at state vs. Rochester Lourdes , Wed at 8pm.

I don't know what Iowa's chances with Zoe Young from WDM Valley are, but during the State tourney, the announcers said she is holding out for an offer from UCONN or Notre Dame.

I've seen her ranked anywhere from the #1 player in her class to the #21st player. She's been to both Iowa & Iowa St. for games the last couple of years but will likely have plenty of options to choose from.

On a side note, while they don't appear to go head to head in recruiting all that often Matt Bollant was fired as the head coach at Illinois today.

Wow, wasn't that long ago that Bollant was considered a WBB genius. Not the first coach with a good rep to struggle in Illini-land, of course

I thought Jolette Law would do well there, but didn't happen.
I thought so also, thought that was a home run hire for them. I wonder if Illinois will try going after Jenni from Drake or if she would be interested in that job.

Monika had 20 points (8-11 FG, 4-5 FT) and 16 rebounds in a 71-58 win at state.
Next up, #2 Sauk Centre (30-1) on Friday. Sauk Centre has Kali Peschel's younger sisters , Kelsey and Tori.
8pm tonight, at the Barn.

I think Iowa had courses like that or similar at one time, but a number of years back was told to "slim down' the majors (ISU and UNI were told to also, but not sure they did).

Take another one off the board...Carmen Backes to Wisconsin. She had a back injury last season, and an ACL this year. Good player when healthy.

Is she a point guard? Got any other info about her?
Oak will probably know more, haven't found a whole lot on her. She is a 6'0 shooting guard/wing type player with an excellent 3 point shot & 1,000 point scorer already. Helped lead her team to the state final game.

A lot of connections here....her mother is the sister of Julie Fitzpatrick (jan Jensen's partner) and her father is AJ Epenesa's football coach.
A 6-foot junior guard, Martin scored her 1,000th career point in a Class 4A state semifinal win over Montini. Martin achieved the milestone with a 3-pointer early in the fourth quarter that gave the Tigers a 30-26 lead on their way to a 37-35 win. A defensive specialist, Martin was at her best in the championship game, holding Geneva all-state guard Margaret Whitley to just two points after she came in a averaging a team-high 14.2. A three-year starter, Martin earned second-team all-state and all-Southwestern Conference honors after being named to all-tournament teams at Springfield Southeast and Oswego East. She also plays volleyball.
She is also very aware of Kathleen Doyle. Doyle's Benet team knocked her team out of the state tournament her FR and Soph years as Kathleen won back to back titles.

If the recruit is a quality person and she is a life long Hawkeye fan with a smile and a fist-pump irrespective of extended family orientation. Very glad she is coming and hope she ignores the irrevelant societal comment that has nothing to do with her future as a Hawkeye! Welcome aboard and hope you have a great experience wearing the black and gold.
