WBB Transfer Portal Targets 2025-2026

With the lineup coming back and incoming Freshmen we’re looking like an 8-9 seed. Which means a possible win in the 1st round and a beat down in the next round. The difference in athleticism today was huge on both ends. Our current Freshmen while nice players are not overly athletic. We lose by far our best player in Olsen. We were able to grab her in the portal this year but we need help next year.

With the goal in mind stated by Jan that she wants the program to be great I think her and her staff really need to sit down and take a long hard look at the roster and evaluate each player and determine if that player has the skills to help the team achieve greatness. She is trying to recruit the type of players that help you achieve that goal with the 26 class. IMO shouldn’t she do the same with the portal? The goal is to upgrade your roster.

Iowa needs to add a legitimate scoring threat and another ball handler. It could be the same person, but both are needed.
This. We need an experienced guard that can create their own shot. Kylie and McCabe aren’t ball handlers and are quite bad at it. Wouldn’t mind a legitimate post player either but Jan won’t sit HS. Jan needs to get what’s best for the team and not worry about hurt feelings.

JJ had Lucy to cover for CC.
And Guyton had chances to claim her spot. No one can claim Guytin didn't have the opportunity.

Now that we see AJ isn't the answer going forward, JJ knows what she needs in the portal.

I have questions in regard to Guyton but I really think it’s unfair to fully judge her based on a freshmen season that she didn’t get any summer work and no fall practice reps. She literally came into her initial season trying to make the transition in live game scenarios.

This. Playing 2 non ball handlers together is a problem moving forward. McCabe has shown who she is. At least Feurbach is a really really good defender. Then if you throw in Hannah as another non factor in handling the ball that’s a problem.

True, but the more she's played the worse she's performed. Should be the other way around. We need a point guard in the portal.
We do also need a portal addition that's 6'2" or taller if available.

You either have it or not. While some nice ok minutes .... where you WOWED.

Name an Iowa freshman who has ever wowed you other than Caitlin Clark.
In my time:

Wowed: Clark, Kathleen Doyle, Heiden.

Next Tier (Long-Term Starter): Makenzie Meyer, Alexis Sevillian, McKenna Warnock, Gabbie Marshall, Hannah Stuelke.

That's just players where I was very confident they'd be a long-term starter as a freshman. Some like Czinano just didn't play enough to have that confidence. Sevillian is weird because her freshman year was her best year.

IMO the leeway afforded her due to summer layoff and limited pre-season team practice reps mostly evaporated by the time March rolled around.

Guyton played quality minutes in all 27 regular season games, averaging about 16.5 minutes, heading into the postseason. As far as I know, she has participated in every team practice since the season started.

Guyton played 39 minutes in the two NCAA tournament games. She shot a combined 2/11 (0-4 3PT), zero assists, and 4 TOs.

Tough to find rationalizations at this point…. can only hope for a big leap here soph season.

I was responding to @Hawkeye1984 who claimed Guyton wasn’t even a D1 player. Point being she got more time than the other Freshmen later in the year except Heiden starting in the Big Ten tournament. I think all are nice players, but I honestly don’t see start power in any of them except possibly Heiden.

Hope you’re right on Heiden. I think (actually hope) she has a bright future but honestly she hardly played enough this year to say you were wowed by her.

Just listened to Jan’s postgame presser, Sounds like she wants a pg and forward in the portal if I interpret what she said correctly.

I don't recall her mentioning a position, might have missed it, but she definitely said she will be looking to the portal. PG and a forward would make sense.

1. She missed the first 7 games, And played sparingly in the next few games. Her first game action was in the Cancun Classic.

2. She didn’t begin participating in actual practices until early November after the season started.

I don’t know how good she can be, I just think given all the circumstances it’s a bit early to give up on her.

I think she mentioned Pg and forward right at the end of the presser. I will listen again later.

Guyton is not a D1 player. I don’t see it. Change my mind.
It often takes 18 months to fully recover from an ACL injury, snf Guyton missed training camp and first part of te season. Based on that, with a healthy offseason and coaching she might have a lot of room to grow in both decision making and physically. I think she is for sure a D1 player, the question is can she find her role here, snd how much can she develop?

I agree, way too early to throw in the towel. I could be way off but I think she could grow into a Gabbie Marshall type role - a legit 3PT threat but can also score from mid-range. I’ll be a little surprised if she is given the keys to run the offense as PG.

For most of the year I think that was true. Then she scored 11 points in 12 minutes against Michigan State, 10 points in 14 minutes against Ohio State, and 15 points in 17 minutes against Murray State.

Taking over three straight games in March against Tournament teams was a wow for me.

She has to gain weight and muscle this offseason in order to have a chance at being consistent. She is currently at a major disadvantage defensively and offensively. She is not going to get all open shots and she currently is getting smothered on her drives. She is a project at this point and she has a lot of work to do to be effective as a starter at Iowa next year in my opinion.

For what it's worth, if Iowa were going to have players leave in the portal, I'd expect to hear about it in the next couple days. The only caveat is if Iowa brings someone in and a player decides to leave because of that.

Jan more than anyone knows our shortcomings. But getting instant impact transfers is easier said than done as Jan said. Every team out there will want them as well. We got one in Lucy, great fit and impact. But the game of the portal is about $$$. Be part of the solution, keep your seats, our fan base is a big plus for Iowa and attractive to recruits. Plan on contributing to NIL nice and fun things aren’t free. My top two passions are fishing and Iowa WBB. I spend more each year on fishing than the team. I am going to adjust that some

Agreed.

With the new coach, people are now focused on MBB, but we cannot forget about WBB. If we go after top talent and want to compete on the biggest stage, we will need the NIL to match.

I donated this morning.

According to Internet rumblings McMahon and Garzon are

Heiden showed more as a freshman than Czinano did. Enough that I think she's Iowa's next star 5 as soon as next year. One tough game against Beers doesn't change that.
Everyone needs to remember, Beers is an All American type player. Struggling against her is not unusual
