But it doesn’t have anything to do with coping. It is about who we are as a nation. Are we the type of country that elevates and celebrates people that do the things above? Actions speak louder than words and Trump’s actions are so horrid, so despicable that one has to ask how any sane person could support the guy.
You not being embarrassed that Trump is leading in the polls is further evidence that 1) either your parents did fail in raising you or 2) that life in the group home isn’t all it could be.
You should be embarrassed that your party can’t do better than Harris and Waltz.

Honest request: Define “so bad” for me please.
As far as I can tell “so bad” means
- She blew a guy in a consensual relationship when she was single (compare to Trump’s infidelities)
- She laughs unexpectedly and has a bit of a cackle (compare to Trump’s literal sociopathy)
- She sometimes speaks in word salad (compare to Trump not having “cognitive”)
- She is labeled by dumbasses as a “Marxist” despite virtually all top capitalist economists saying her economic policies are better than Trump’s
- She didn’t solve the border (but neither did Trump and he was actually president)
- She supports LGBTQ people, you know because she is a kind person.
That is the excuse you guys use no matter who the Democrats put out there. "They nominated THE ONE SINGLE PERSON who would make me vote for Trump." Right. You are a bunch of liars. You love that list of character flaws. You love Trump and all he stands for. You hate the "cultural elites", and giving them the finger is far more important to you than anything dealing with governance.
We have a presidential candidate for the Republican party that has publicly gushed, admired, and drooled over other men's penises. And one in particular. Wow... How far can they sink?

Trump is like Billy Madison. Technically he made it through school and ‘earned’ his lot in life, but deep down he’s just a smart ass and a troll and probably truly lives for getting under people’s skin(s).
The sensible way to deal with him would have been to find a serious, intelligent, independent Dem to challenge the Biden/Harris shit show in a healthy primary.
But nope. Americans do love their shit shows.
This is my issue with the discourse. People suggest that Kamala isn't intelligent when she is running against someone who is likely of average intelligence at best, they complain about her personality when she is running against a narcissist, they complain that she doesn't discuss policy neither does her opponent, they complain that she slept her way to the top when her opponent largely inherited his wealth, they complain about her failures while ignoring Trump's.
I think it is a mistake when people label Kamala as a Marxist. She's not. It's a mistake when people label Trump a fascist. He isn't. He uses fascist language but he doesn't really buy into the subordination of the individual or militarization aspects of facism. He's a narcissist. He is not fit for an important leadership role. His narcissism led him to undermine our democratic principals in particular the transition of power. He has promoted a post truth world view and is so online that he has been fooled by fake news and has platformed it.
I'm less annoyed with people who say they favor Trump based on policy. Even though I disagree. In terms of the economy I think we give too much credit/blame to presidents. I don't think tariffs are a good strategy and would likely cause economic harm. Particularly sense the proposed tariffs are going to affect inputs on the things we do manufacture. We need to address immigration but I would advocate for streamlining pathways to work for immigrants. Most immigrants want to work and above board jobs provide less expensive labor and tax revenue. I would also like to see us shift our manufacturing relationships from Asia to Mexico and Central America.

I have no dog in this fight but it seems both parties need to look at the big picture early in the selection process.
When you nominate divisive figures like Kamala and Donald, you risk pissing off YOUR traditional voters to the point of staying home and you risk motivating lukewarm supporters of THEIR side to actually vote instead of staying home.
Probably why Biden won in ‘20 - he really wasn’t seen as a polarizing figure four years ago.
Take the MAGA element out of the situation and a hypothetical race such as Buttigieg v. DeSantis might make the US seem like a big boy country again.
If only Republicans had been given a choice in the primary. We wouldn’t be talking about grandpa having moments serving up fries to fake customers or grandpa talking about the dongs of dead golfers.
They chose Trump from a large primary field ahead of 2016. They chose Trump from a large primary field ahead of 2024. But Republicans continue to tell us they have no choice but to vote for Trump.
We should have partyless or combined primaries with rank choice voting. The current system promotes far left and right leaning candidates. It makes it very difficult for moderates to be successful and discourages the development of alternative parties.

Rent free in your head….i watched this live and it was the best part of Trump. Retail politics. Talking to normal people. People that were very glad to see him and meet him. And you know he loves himself some McDonald’s. I thought it was great actually.
