I am guessing the cost for a family of 4 to attend the Rose Bowl will be over $6,000.

$2,400 Tickets (4x$600)
$4,600 Airfare (4x$1,150; leave Dec 30, return Jan 3)
$1,000 Hotel (4 nightsx$250)
$500 Food (for 4 people for 4 days)
$500 Transportation for events, to game, to/from airport, etc
$500 Misc/unforeseen expenses

Way low on airfare, at least out of CR. I was looking at $1k apiece into LAX/Orange County before I decided to go the reward miles route. Also cost me $350/night for hotel.

Feels low.

Are there charters from Iowa offering $350 airfare? That would be very low I would think. My flight was $680 roundtrip from DC, and I bought it Sunday.

Game Tix are a big variable, where $185 will get you a decent face price ticket, or $600+ for a get-in online.

I figure it'll cost me around $2500 for my wife and I for 3 nights, with free airfare.

So, $1,250 per person? what's your cost breakdown?

Hotel $1225(after taxes)
Game $400 (face plus concessions etc)
Tailgate package ~$200
Airfare and luggage $75
Ubers $200
Food/booze $400

I think it is fairly reasonable. But I do have a tendency to over spend a bit when I'm drinking...

There were flights on allegiant out of grand island Nebraska to Vegas for $350.00. Not very attractive for eastern Iowans but very doable for those on the west side of the state.

My husband and I are going. For two, we're spending
$900 each KC to LAX from 12/29 to 1/3
$120 per night hotel on the water in Long Beach
$35 per day for our share of the rental car
$400 for tickets through UI
So half as much as a tour package but staying twice as long and really Glad our kids aren't going with airfare that high.

I live in Des Moines and picked up airfare 15 minutes after the Rose was announced from Kansas City to Vegas for $251 non stop round trip. Even then, everything out of Des Moines was $600 or more. Rental car in Vegas costing me $125. $150 in gas and meals. If my tickets come through for $180 from the ticket office, I'm figuring the whole trip for me will be a little more than $700. Granted, I'll be staying with a friend who lives in So. Cal, so the free lodging certainly helps!

so, for the 2 of you, if had airfare, would run around $4,800 (or $2,400 each)

you are lucky to get tix at face value!

Man, it's a good thing I don't live in CR anymore. I wouldn't have a chance with these costs. Driving to LA from Phoenix is a walk in the park; however, I still have one major issue: tickets. Staying at a Sheraton Four Points for 4 days and round trip gas is only costing me $300. Again, game tickets are my major issue right now and it looks like that'll prevent me from going.

Yeah about that... I'm kind of banking on tickets at face or better. We will see if I have enough priority points or if my connections come through for me. I feel confident that at least one of my avenues will come through!

You people could always drive to Pasadena.....

I'm probably not going because I don't have the money but on my own I could easily make this trip having spent less than $1,500.....The biggest hurdle would be tickets, if the prices were still beyond f***ing ridiculous just because...

If I were a student still and had all that time off school I would be driving. One heck of a road trip and can't be much longer than our drive to Tampa and Orlando (outback bowl and spring break).

might try Minn to Palm Springs, about 2 1/2 hr from rose bowl to 3 hrs depending on traffic and direct flights on a couple carriers. Sun Country air usually pretty cheap

18.5 hours from Iowa City to Tampa. 26 hours from Iowa City to Pasadena.

If anyone is looking for hotel on the relative cheap - and you are planning to rent a car - there should be reasonable options throughout Southern California.

There should be safe/reasonable options out by the Ontario airport (look for airport hotels). It's not exactly the resort part of SoCal but could save you some pretty decent cash.
